Many wonder if Artificial Intelligence (AI) could be beneficial to humanity. AI has been around for only a few years. Voice Assistants such as Bixby and Siri help people maneuver through screen selection, apps and much more on their cell phones easier and faster. AI is slowly getting better, with things such as self-driving cars and robotic relations. There are two types of AI, weak AI and strong AI. Weak AI are things we have today, such as those listed above (Siri and Bixby), and the strong AI is what researchers are currently working towards. There are many ways that AI could be useful in our lives, it can help us to move forward in technology that we have yet to make many advances in, it can also make everyday complications and annoyances much easier for humans. With the help of AI, technology will be better and faster than ever because the AI will not make repeated mistakes like people would. First, AI is created to learn as they go. AI is able to make fast advances by being given set goals. In the article, Benefits and Risks of AI, the author wrote, “Machines can obviously have goals in the narrow sense of exhibiting goal-oriented behavior: the behavior of a heat-seeking missile is most economically explained as a goal to hit a target” (Tegmark). Researchers are able to set a goal for the AI to reach so it will not get off task, which will make the research process faster without common distractions. This allows the AI to work through the problems quickly
In the article, Let’s Stop Freaking Out About Artificial Intelligence, authors Eric Schmidt and Sebastian Thrun argue that artificial intelligence’s benefits vastly outweigh the consequences, and that it can be used to improve our everyday lives. The authors argue that when one self-driving car makes a mistake, “all of the self-driving cars learn from it” (Schmidt & Thrun 4), implying that self-driving cars are much safer than cars that are driven manually by humans. They claim that since people don’t learn from other people's’ mistakes, hundreds of thousands of people die every year due to traffic accidents because of it. With artificial intelligence, those numbers would vastly decrease and would save hundred of thousands of lives. In addition, the authors take a much more optimistic view of A.I, as they write about how the AI revolution “could free us from menial, repetitive, and mindless work” (Schmidt & Thrun 5), meaning that artificial intelligence can do all of the dirty work for us, while we do the much easier things. Schmidt and Thrun implies that we would be much happier doing the simpler things and not having to worry about possible injuries during their work. They state that artificial intelligence can be used to protect us from identity theft with facial recognition and improve our lives and abilities by harnessing A.I.
The future of AI will be able to solve many problems that have remained unanswered by mankind. These include balancing the Economy, dealing with climate change, getting to school on time, picking the right outfit,, and many more ways. This technology could drastically change the outlook of the future with the right steps taken. The AI in which we use today is not nearly as intelligent as we want it to be, its only a slight portion of what we hope to achieve and maintain. Many companies using AI are aware of how fast the technology is already growing, as we are decades ahead of what we anticipated. Some future features of artificial intelligence include humans being able to live side by side with robots and other machines to help make the world we live in easier. Purdy and Daugherty (2017) suggest that by 2035 AI could double annual economic growth. Also it could increase labor productivity by 40%. While we are plenty of ways far from this, it is still important to look into the world just outside ours. Another feature would include the AI to rewrite its own coding, causing it to only grow smarter and smarter. This has lead to many to ponder the true safety of Artificial Intelligence, what happens if it grows too smart and leaves human minds
Humans can develop their intelligence in many ways by getting into computers more and get to know more about the intelligence of technology. We know that technology has changed our society throughout history. Today, technology and human lives cannot be separated because people rely on technology, whether it is in work, school, home or anywhere else. It is good to discover new technologies and learn new thing from it but getting completely dependent on them without overcoming anything that will be harmful in certain of times. There are a lot of people are smart and can discover anything that will benefit the community. One of the methods have positive things and has negative effects is the artificially
This research involves discovering how Artificial Intelligence (AI) has progressed and how it could potentially replace mankind. The goal of this research is to provide examples of how Artificial Intelligence is incorporated into our daily lives and provides an easier way of living. Today, we live in a world where technology is constantly advancing and executing tasks that make human lives easier. This research will show the impact AI has on the mankind and answer the question of: Could AI eventually replace mankind?
With all technological advancements, there will always be trades made when considering the outcome-the benefits and risk that the technology presents. The theory and practical uses of AI so far are beneficial, but this has both experts in machine learning and other influential people worried about AI as a weapon or misunderstanding their own programming is an absurd notion to make. Yes, there are very real “fears” when considering that it will put most blue-collar workers out of jobs, but that is another discussion. When considering these accusations that AI is an existential threat and waiting to occur, there are a few reasons for why AI is going to benefit us in a safe way more than hurt us in the long run. First, while learning software does “learn,” we chose what it learns and how it learns-meaning that we have full control over it. Secondly, if AI is created, the purpose will not be intended as nefarious, but as a way to safe keep life-through defending ourselves with it. Lastly, with the application of AI to other sciences, the progressive, new technology developed by working with scientists will create better technology to benefit humanity.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is portrayed in many science fiction films such as I, robot, The Terminator, Ex Machina, etc., or novels as the future that holds evil in our society. Engineers all over the world are currently developing and making AI a reality. I know that my major is involved with the project intending to bring AI into reality which is interesting, but it still has me wondering if this is a good idea. I imagine AI as the future such that we will have them at school, in our house and even our workplace. It is a possibility that AI will be used to help students and professors by solving critical equations faster than ever or helping them out in the subjects they are struggling with. They can help clean around the house and neighborhood, implement future ideas to companies, and even join the police force to stop crime. They do not necessarily need arms, legs, or eyes to commit such actions. As a Computer Engineer, I believe that AI will have the capability to protect and serve us, but if they are given the freedom to think and act, then they can also harm us. I assume the engineers working with AI, will program them to restrict actions that can harm this society and inspect them weekly to accomplish this restriction. We should keep an open mind towards any consequences and benefits AI may bring to this world. I can see drones roaming around freely while having the task to protect us, android devices advising and having a normal conversation with a person, and
What’s the first thing you think of when someone says, “Artificial Intelligence”? The Terminator? Perhaps the Matrix trilogy? Ever since the inception of the computer, science fiction has brought us scenes of super-intelligent computers who want to take over all of mankind. In reality, Artificial Intelligence is still in it’s infancy, and has done much more good for humans than bad. Over time, people’s perspective of AI has changed drastically. We have gone from thinking that AI will take over the world and obliterate mankind to thinking about all the benefits we can get from AI. The change in people’s perspective lately towards a more positive view of AI has boosted the production, sales, and advancement of home automation and AI, making
Society today is greatly influenced by technology and the impact it has had within the past 20 years. One of the largest breakthroughs, though, is Artificial Intelligence (A.I.). The technology associated with A.I. has greatly developed in the past years, and is only making devices smarter. When someone mentions technology, or even the technological breakthroughs the world has gone through recently, many people go straight to smartphones and computers. A.I. is often overlooked, or put into a general category of "technology". Yet, artificial intelligence is something that should we not be so quick to dismiss, and should be something that gets people talking and even excited for what the future holds.
Suddenly society has a workforce of robots and humans are out of jobs because robots are cheaper and more reliable. AI is supposed to learn to act at or above Human performance levels (7). This definition in itself scares people knowing that the purpose of these machines is to be as smart as and eventually smarter than Humans.
Artificial intelligence has become a big controversy between scientists within the past few years. Will artificial intelligence improve our communities in ways we humans can’t, or will they just cause danger to us? I believe that artificial intelligence will only bring harm to our communities. There are multiple reasons why artificial intelligence will bring danger to humanity, some of them being: you can’t trust them, they will lead to more unemployment, and they will cause more obesity.
Neil Jacobstein, an AI expert who has consulted on projects for the U.S. military, GM, and Ford, has thought of a solution for AI becoming too powerful, or superintelligent. Deep learning is a part of AI created to help it accomplish tasks on their own. But if AI starts to learn on its own, there is the fear of the Terminator-style robot emerging down the road. "As AI becomes more powerful, there is the question of making sure we are monitoring its objectives at it understands them," Jacobstein said. However, he did propose a solution: A control system to shut AI down. "If something does go wrong, and in most systems it occasionally does, how quickly can we get the system back on track? That's often by having multiple redundant pathways for establishing control," he said (Muoio).
To progress as a society, we must first look back at all the hardships faced throughout the years. We must look at the world leaders who were able to convince entire countries to eliminate millions of people different than themselves. We must understand the groups of extremists spreading terror and fear across the globe, and we must control people in power abusing their positions to benefit themselves and their agendas. Instead of ignoring these human mistakes, we must break them down and figure out how they could happen. Artificial Intelligence relies on our abilities to learn from our mistakes and mold our future in a way that will be beneficial and equal to all people. This paper will present the many benefits that A.I. will give
lot of benefits and disadvantages, which would increase in the coming years. Artificial Intelligence would be beneficial to humans because we have a lot to improve upon in our society. Artificial Intelligence would be a great asset, but it should be treated with caution.
Artificial Intelligence is a topic within the public media that has existed for decades, but is now a concern due to the reality of human advancement and innovation in the field of science and technology. Many people believe that computers will become self-aware or sentient and view humanity as a disposable resource and gain supremacy. Reasoning that research on the technology should halt and not become more advance. Whereas others believe they will help catapult research and the economy forward, supporting the operations and innovations the technology offers. The complicated and divided solutions to the debate aren’t obvious, but there are more benefits to improving artificial intelligence than there is stopping it. Therefore, the negative effects people believe will occur can be resolved.
We are not live in 19th or 20th century anymore. It is the 21st century now; things have changed, such as people, tools, policies, especially the learning environment. Learning areas are not limited to the classroom; it could happen at anywhere, such as the library, home, garden, etc. Therefore, because it is the 21st century, we also need to learn 21st-century skills. Pellegrino and Hilton (2012) mentioned that "21st-century skills include cognitive abilities (nonroutine problem solving, system thinking, and critical thinking), interpersonal skills (range from active listening, to presentation skills, to conflict resolution), and interpersonal skills (broadly clustered under adaptability and self-management/self-development personal
