The phrase "cracker barrel" refers to the simple and rustic informality that was a characteristic of the conversations and country stores they took place in. Step into a time machine and visit the first Cracker Barrel on Highway 109 in Lebanon, Tennessee in 1969 by Dan Evins. He appropriated $40,000 to build that first Cracker Barrel. Evins asked a couple who ran a local antiques store, to help him enhance the space in the design of an old country store.
Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. was founded in 1969 by Dan Evins in his home town of Lebanon, Tennessee. The first stores were conjoined with gas stations and strategically placed along the highway routes to attract travelers. In 1973, the Arab Petroleum Embargo began and by its end in March 1974, oil prices had dramatically increased from $3 to nearly $12 per barrel. As a result, only five short years after its inception, Cracker Barrel discontinued its gas stations and concentrated solely on the restaurant and country store aspects of the store’s design. Cracker Barrel proclaims itself to be a “home away from home” by sticking with a southern theme. Each restaurant has an old country store attached that sells items sometimes native to the specific stores’ locations. The company still maintains the traditions it has held since the beginning such as fireplaces and placing a peg game on each table. Although tradition has become somewhat of a trademark of Cracker Barrel Old Country Stores, Inc., throughout this paper, I will display how the company’s unwillingness to change in some areas has proven to be, and still continues to be detrimental to the organization.

The creator of this one of a kind restaurant is Dan Evins he founded Cracker Barrel on September 19, 1969. What inspired the founder to create Cracker Barrel? Originally Cracker Barrel started up for the interest of attracting highway travelers. The first restaurant opened right next to Interstate

In the short story “Brownies” by ZZ Packer, the characters who respond to oppression by trying to oppress others fail. When Laurel and the girls are in the bathroom with Troop 909 accusing them of using racial slurs, Arnetta says that one of the girls will be a tattletale if they tell on them. The Troop 909 girl responds with “I like tattletale”. The goal of Laurel’s troop is to oppress and teach Troop 909 a lesson, instead the troop is fighting back. Instead of scaring the girl by calling her a tattletale, she embraces and likes it. After the leader of Troop 909 talks to Mrs. Margolin, the leader of the other girls, Laurel hears and thinks “ Oh they will apologize” Mrs.Margolin said to the 909 troop leader, but Mrs. Margolin said this so

Madeleine Thien’s “Simple Recipes” is a short story that depicts an immigrated family facing problems of cultural preservation; “Hills like White Elephants” by Ernest Hemingway portrays a couple facing difficulties in decision-making about their unplanned pregnancy. Despite the difference in plots and themes respectively, both stories discuss about relationships are being put at stake as a result of different factors emerge in the plot. In the two stories, competing values, problems with communication and lack of understanding between two people emerge as elements that can ruin a relationship. Therefore, the two stories reveal that selfishness is the initial and eventual cause for broken relationships.

Some have said that the portion sizes are incorrect, some say that the information on fats and oils can be misleading, scaring people into thinking that all fats are bad, some experts have even gone as far as to say that the information Health Canada has provided Canadians is not based on current scientific principles as the subject of food and nutrition is constantly evolving and changing every year. Though some criticisms and suggestions people are making with regards to Canada’s Food Guide sound a little
Now days our culture has become increasingly integrated and more accepting of racial diversity. This means there are situations that may arise through, school, and jobs, cross cultural relationships or interracial dating where one may find themselves in an environment where the people and the culture is much different from their own. In today’s society there is a variety of foods consumed. Some of which are vital to the human body and some are eaten for the taste. As a result, food guides are able to inform the public which foods to eat and how much of the food should be consumed. It also tells information based on health and how to prevent certain diseases.
