The Butterfly Effect Narrative form is simply “a type of filmic organization in which the parts relate to one another through a series of casually related events taking place in time and space.” Narration usually occurs in a cause-effect relationship. There are many factors of narration but range and depth are the most important.
The range refers to how much we know in the plot. Range connects characters and the audience through shared knowledge. One example of range in a story is ‘restricted knowledge’ where we can only discover things with the characters, meaning that we don’t know more than the characters know. On the other hand there is something

During one of Evan’s flask backs he goes to the time where Kayleigh’s dad is filming him and Kayleigh as kids. Evan decides to change one thing, by stepping up to Kayleigh’s dad, which follows by his whole life changing. A quick flash of Evan’s new life then comes after. Then the film hits a new scene of Evan and Kayleigh in bed as college students. Evan wakes up confused and out of place which is an example of objective depth. By Evan’s confused and nervous facial expressions we can tell what is going on in his head, we can tell that he is confused. Evan asks Kayleigh “Don’t freak out when I ask you this but, do you remember when your dad got that video camera?” Kayleigh responds with, “Yeah um, Why would that freak me out?” By Evan stepping up to Kayleigh’s dad, the video camera then becomes just a prop in the film, when before it was a main motif of the movie. “Flashbacks offer a fascinating instance of the overarching power of objective narration. They are usually motivated as mental subjectivity, since the events we see are triggered by a character’s recalling the past. Yet, once we are inside the flashback, events will typically be presented from a wholly objective standpoint. They will usually be presented in an unrestricted fashion, too, and may even include action that the remembering character could have no way of knowing.” In other words, Once
A narrative is an order in which something is put. there is often a reason behind this order. Directors frequently use flashbacks to show previous stories or a passing of time to the audience (Bordwell and Thompson 79). Character and time help the audience to make sense of a narrative and allows them to speculate about what is about to come. Some different narrative theories suggest ways in which stories are commonly put together. A linear narrative has the simple beginning, middle and end story line and the story will flow chronologically from beginning to end (Bordwell and Thompson 85). A non-linear narrative is a narrative that does not follow a regular beginning-middle-end pattern where the storytellers often change the order of events (Bordwell and Thompson 80). This
In the book “A Magnificent Catastrophe” the author, Edward J. Larson, writes about all of the little details that has occurred in the First Presidential Campaign in the 1800s. He begins his book with how the two parties, the Republicans (Jefferson) and Federalists (Adams), were going to compete in who will govern the United States now that it is a free country and no longer under Britain’s rule. Although they had at first been friends they soon became enemies because of how they believed the government should be. Jefferson believed that the government should be a populist government that trusted popular rule. While Adams believed that America should have a strong government and that al

September 11, 2001 is the day four planes were hijacked and three crashed into important buildings, while the last crashed into a field. And today all the grief, devastation, great sacrifice, and total annihilation will be remembered throughout time as 9/11. To tell you everything would take forever, so instead I will tell you how my mother saw it. It was on a day we all know as 9/11, there was a house on Quimby Way in Sacramento, California. And in this house, my mother was going throughout her day as usual, which most likely involved laundry, dishes, and watching two children by the name of Alanna and Christopher, when she saw the news. “Is this really happening? This can’t be true! Was it an accident? Oh my god, both towers! What would ever make someone do that? This is terrible, why is it even happening in the first place? Why? Why?
The flashbacks in this story help develop the plot by providing background information that completes the thoughts and the conflicts throughout the story.. For example, the story Heroes states, “The wreck center is boarded up and abandoned now” (Cormier). The wreck is the place where Francis would hang out when he was a kid. The wreck center is also the place where Larry LaSalle made all of the kids feel like they meant something, and the wreck center is also the place where Larry corrupted Nicole Renard. Mentioning the wreck center is an example of a flashback because of the location.
Farrell argues, “Merely telling one’s story of trauma, however is not enough to begin the healing process” (186). Flashbacks are more than a memory, even if one tells others their flashbacks, one still would not understand the meaning or the significance of the intrusive memory. According to Caruth, “The flashbacks or traumatic reenactment conveys , that is both the truth of an event, and the truth of its incomprehensibility” (Caruth 153). In order for one to understand and heal from their trauma, one
Life has many causes and effects, whether it is good or bad, there is always going to be a result to someone’s actions. In Ray Bradbury’s The Sound Of Thunder, this can be used to describe the “Butterfly Effect”; a theory that supports the idea that a tiny change in time can alter reality forever. In the story, this is exactly what happened when Eckels goes back sixty million years into the past and steps on a butterfly. From this small mistake, Eckels manages to make a drastic change in the future, from an entire new president to a diverse spelling. Travis’s motivation to shoot Eckels is caused by him killing the butterfly, his recklessness, and the presidency election change. This goes to show that even the most insignificant action can have

America was founded on July 4, 1776 by our forefathers, including some very noble leaders such as, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, James Madison, James Monroe, and Benjamin Franklin. So much has changed historically since that time in America. We have survived the Civil War, World War 1, Pearl Harbor, World War 2, the Cold War, the civil rights movement, and the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Leading all the way up to the most recent historical event, the first African American President, Barack Obama. These events that have happened in America’s past has made it and shaped it into the way it is today and the way that it will eventually become.
It’s a warm Sunday afternoon at Newark International Airport in Newark, New Jersey and my bags are filled with clothes like I am filled with excitement. I close my eyes and imagine the coastal calmess of Barcelona, tounges releasing the Catalan language while I strolled in awe. Take a turn and suddenly it’s the bustling streets of Paris, Seine River bridges and towering landmarks all in the name of liberté, fraternité, et égalité.
This method has four main components of the narrative or story: characters, setting, plot, and theme. Protagonists (the main characters), the antagonist (the character creating conflict with the protagonist), and other contributing characters are the people that make the story. Where the story takes place would be considered the setting, this is where the narrator can bring his or her audience to help paint a picture. The core of the story, in other words the plot, helps illustrate the action within the story. Similar to the plot, the theme is the main message that the narrator or storyteller is trying to convey to the audience listening. Now the two primary sets of functions that the narrative method holds are epistemological and persuasive. The former touches on how the story can help others understand society, the latter then can be explained as how stories persuade people to take on or leave behind ideas about society. The approach to narrative criticism analyzes how well the narrative fulfills its rhetorical functions (Hartzell, 2015), while evaluating the source or narrator for their credibility. The narrative perspective seems to be more subjective due to the fact that the narrators’ opinions are personal, and the narrative presented is attempting to persuade the audience to adapt to the same
The “Butterfly Effect” is a metaphor that encapsulates the concept of sensitive dependence on initial conditions in the chaos theory; namely that small differences in the initial condition of a dynamic system may produce large variations in the long term behavior of the system. This is a great theory that can be applied to specific aspects of life and life in general. I believe it can be applied to my life in the sense that every event that has occurred in my life; big, small, good or bad. I would not change anything, because they all came together to bring me to where I am today.
Storytelling is the oral tradition of sharing stories and recounting events of the past. It is an ancient art form and is a dear form of human expression (What is). Most historians and psychologists alike agree that storytelling is one of the many things binding and defining humanity as we know it because everything revolves around storytelling in one form or another. Humans are possibly the only animals capable of creating and telling stories.
The style of the delivery of the plot is an important aspect of literature. The way in which an author uses narrative is what gives the story substance and life. The plot of any story is just a patterns of events that have a beginning, middle and end. However, the narrative is the medium through which the story is presented and can therefore affect a text and shape the meaning and structure of the plot. The most common form of narrative in literature is the use of a narrator, which is a character that relays the story through written rhetoric.
