With the presence of The Doctor the ship had left the dock, the engines roaring they soared into the sea of stars, embraced by the goddess of the night herself. The captain and the first mate settled into their positions on the bridge almost immediately, she at her station in front of the main viewport, he just a bit behind at the helm. The Doctor was no where to be seen of course, he mightn 't even be on the ship any more. Ruari on the other hand was being a nuisance, in the most endearing of ways; if she wasn 't trying to rest her head on the captain 's lap she was getting right under the first mate 's feet! He reached down and petted her, moving his fingers behind her ears to scratch just the way she liked it.

"Stop that!" laughed the first mate, Ruari 's tail had been wagging vigorously and brushing the back of her head. The arcanine was huge, after all, she could only rest her head like that on the captain because of the raised platform.

Just because she 'd told him to stop, the captain gave the ecstatic beast an extra enthusiastic scratch. Ruari 's tail was making the first mate 's hair look as if it had been in a gale!

"Catch!" she said as she took something from her pocket and threw it just above the captain 's head. "Two can play at that game!"

Before the captain had time to notice the mischievous glint in her eyes he 'd already reached up and grabbed the object. He felt the uneven texture of the treats that Ruari loved in his hand now but it was much too late, a whirl of red fur was lunging straight for his hand.

"Shi-" was all he managed to get out before the wind was knocked out of him. He just managed to open his hand before he felt the roughness and saliva from that damn animal all over his palm, dribbling down his forearm. Of course it got on his sleeve and therefore everywhere, though he was struggling too much to get his breath back to pay too much attention to that. "It 's a good thing I wasn 't standing, you know she can knock me for six!"

"Serves you right!" was all he got in
