University of Texas at Arlington Seventeen-year-old Juan and Belinda are in love. They grew up in the same neighborhood and they both attend St. Joseph 's Catholic Church regularly. Belinda attends school at the church; however Juan attends the local public school. In seventh grade, Juan begins to meet Belinda at her school to walk her home each day. They both live in a community that is mostly comprised of Hispanics from a variety of countries of different origins such as Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, and Nicaragua to name a few. The Catholic Church is a strong dominant force that is instrumental in shaping the social, political, economic, and personal values and

Both the church and the families have given the two limited information about sexuality but make it clear their strong prohibitions against premarital sex. Out of respect, Juan and Belinda have avoided a lot of physical contact except for kissing and holding each other. Juan and Belinda want to know more and at the minimum are talking about sex. Juan reaches out to the school social worker at his high school for help. Like many communities in the United States, their community decided to limit the amount and type of information to the basics of female and male anatomy and physiology. This decision leaves Juan and Belinda with little information about sexual response and behavior, contraception, pregnancy, childbirth, safe sex practices and other areas which are important in the world today. The school believes it is the families’ responsibility to provide information to their children.
This case study has a myriad of ethical conflicts on many levels. The issue of values themselves has several areas that will need to be addressed. For this situation, through collaboration, I have been charged with the duty of assessing the values concerning the following specific areas: Service, Dignity and Self Worth of the Person, Importance of Human Relationships, and concluding with Integrity. In the subsequent paragraphs we get a better understanding of the appropriate methods and trials of addressing the specified issues
Sexual education in schools has become a highly controversial topic over the past few years. Some people believe students should be taught abstinence-only education, while others believe students need the full on “sex talk”. While the sex education controversy may seem silly, it is very important that students receive the most efficient education possible. When it comes to education parents want their children to receive the most effective kind. This is also very true in terms of sex education. Sex education is very debatable right now as to whether students should be taught abstinence-only education or comprehensive sex education.
Corruption in the Catholic Church was real; the Church has always had a strong present in Mexico since the beginnings. For instance, those in the strong circle of the Church who are not part of the clergy have always been men of power who hold swayed over the government. They have passed laws that benefit the Church, such as the example I pointed out before of Title 1. Precisely, for this reason, was why the Mexican liberals hated the clergy. The main problem and reason why the anti-clerical liberals wanted to remove the clergy in Government was “Fueros”, which means corporate immunities. For the Church, corporate immunities meant that if there was a transgression in the clerical power they were subjected to a different form of justice than the Mexican people. The Liberals saw it as the highest form a corruption because basically those part of the clergy circle who were men of power could get away with corruption. Laws like the example that was given were what ultimately what triggered the anti-clerical liberals to fight back, and that is why by 1861 when Benito Juarez re-established the Mexican government. Once Benito Juarez establishes the Federal Constitution of the United Mexican States of 1857, the Catholic Church was slowly starting to lose the control it had over the Government.
Values and ethics: Work with individuals of other professions to maintain mutual respect and shared values.
I was raised in what now would be called White privilege. The Edgemont area in Provo, Utah was an extremely homogenous culture. My family, along with most of the other families in my neighborhood were young, White, middle class, highly educated, conservative, heterosexual, and Mormon with European ancestry. My father, along with most of the other fathers in the neighborhood, was a professor at Brigham Young University. Our culture was based on the teachings of the Mormon Church with a rich pioneer heritage which we celebrated every 24th of July. As children, we would don pioneer garb, decorate wagons and bikes to look like covered wagons or handcarts and march around the church building pretending to be pioneers. Not only was this event fun, but we could feel the pioneer blood flowing through our veins. The pioneers represented to us hard work, sacrifice, devotion, obedience, courage, fortitude and love of God.
The role of educating students about the importance of healthy sexual relationships has fallen hard and fast on public schools. School aged boys and girls are not receiving information from their parents on what decisions they should make in regards to sex. Parents are finding this topic of conversation too taboo to breach and as a result, students are getting what little information they are receiving from school. Less then half of school aged adolescents talk to their parents about sex and abstinence (Smith, 2005).
This assignment will look at the services that promote sex and relationship education. It will identify the current health issues on promoting and teaching children about sex and relationship education in schools at a young age. Sex and relationships education has been a highlighted topic for over time which is being highly debated about whether it should taught to young children. There are mixed views on how sex and relationship education is taught, statistics show ‘Most parents (65%) believe that sex education should encourage young people to delay sexual activity’ (Kaiser Family Foundation in 2000). Whereas some parents disagree as they think their children are too young to know about sex and relationships, this essay will look at the

“The ideal of what historian Anne Higonnet calls the Romantic Child, our modern image of a naturally asexual, pure child, is at the heart of century-long conflicts over sex education. By definition, the romantic child’s innocence depends on protection from sexuality” (Talk About Sex 13). Parents, in general, do not feel at ease thinking about their children having sex, nor do they want to encourage them to do so. The fact that most parents are not comfortable talking about the subject with their children only increases the importance of doing so in our schools.
Because of this, many teenagers become pregnant before they graduate highschool. Anna also receives pressure from her father’s side due to the extreme conservativeness. Their christian beliefs strongly influence the way they teach their children about sex and contraceptives. Anna never learned about sex or contraceptives from her parents, and her father was reprimanded by his own mother when Anna’s sister became pregnant at a young age and before marriage. Instead of asking why he didn’t educate her properly on safe sex, she told him he should have kept a closer eye on her. Anna ended up learning about sex and contraceptive use through friends and the internet and now practices safe sex with
Christ the King Catholic Church is located at 8005 Dorset Drive in Oklahoma City. The Catholic denomination is the oldest branch of organized Christianity. Being a member of the Catholic church means being a devout follower of God. It means that you believe in the the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and accept him as your lord and savior. Catholics are a part of the Church that Christ established and entrusted to Saint Peter and his successors, the popes. I attended the 10 a.m. mass at Christ the King on July 12, 2015. The service was a little over an hour long and it was an immensely different and interesting experience.
On Monday the 22nd, I went to the local Crossroads Baptist Church, located close to home at in Leesburg, VA. This was my first time experience as I am Hindu and my parents never exposed me to any churches. Dr. Kenneth K. Baldwin was the pastor at the time I went. Luckily, I got the chance to speak with him after the service. After our discussion, I realized that he had a great vision for his church and is doing a great job leading it to in the right path. I sensed his passion for preaching as they were evident during the service through his tone and demeanor. Despite this being my first visit to a church, I learned a lot of interesting things about churches and Christianity.
Rebellious and Pope are two words that generally do not go together, but that is not the case for Pope Francis. The Roman Catholic Church’s new Pope, Pope Francis, has come in to power with the ambition to transform the Vatican for the better. Will the Pope Change the Vatican? Or Will the Vatican Change the Pope? is an article written by Robert Draper and published by national geographic. The article explains the Popes origin and his progressive changes to the Vatican to revert the Catholic Church to what it was meant to be, a church for the people. Dr. Fouberg’s book Human Geography: People, Place, and Culture dives into the Catholic Church, and the cultural and geographic significance it has on the human population.
Sex is always a touchy subject, adolescents feel embarrassed discussing it with their parents or teacher and adults feel awkward answering questions. When people discuss being pregnant or breastfeed it’s often referred to as a natural thing, but when discussing sex it is a natural thing that a lot of adults feel uncomfortable confronting. There can be number of problems that can occur in the area of adolescent sexuality, but it is important to keep in mind majority of adolescents have healthy sexual attitudes and engage in sexual behaviors that will not compromise their journey to adulthood (Adolescence pg. 193). Are the “suttle” and “private” talks about sex harming adolescents versus helping them? Is the sex education that is being taught being embedded in adolescent’s heads? Many people have a different opinion on wither sex education should be taught in school and how it should be taught. When looking at the statistics, sex education can play an important role in adolescents now days. In 2011 54% of twelfth graders have had sexual intercourse and 38% were currently sexually active (Adolescence pg. 197). Many adolescents that are sexually active do not use contraceptives. 34% of the sexually active adolescents did not use contraceptives the last time they had intercourse (Adolescence pg. 206). I am all for teaching adolescents about abstinence but truth of the matter sex is becoming more and more popular in adolescent lives. The way sex education is being presented
Values often use modified methods and styles; I have utilized these different ethics in my career, which has aided me in improving, the environment at work and in my life. Having these particular skills of approaching situations causes an optimistic environment, respect for others, honesty, and reliable outcomes. I have had the comfort of knowing whether, you’re working or at home or out in public, individuals appreciate this kind of merit. These values cause high points in your character with families, patients and your colleagues. Real richness comes from knowing you’re assisting patients with top-quality care, and these goals are obtainable. Identification of these values prepares an
Becoming educated about sexuality and achieving optimal sexual health and well-being should be lifelong developmental process that begins at an early age and continues throughout the lifespan. Although parents should be the initial educators for their children, children also absorb messages about sexuality from many of media sources. This can potentially leave a confusing and potentially negative perception about the expectations and reality of sex. To combat such misperceptions, school systems and other community-based associations are essential. Such programs should be utilized, along side parental advocacy, to provide ayoung people correct and developmentally appropriate comprehensive sex education.
