Cause and Effect
In “Law Abiding Citizen” justice will be served under any circumstance. “Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals” (Martin Luther King, Jr.). In this age of time now I would not be able to watch a person be brutally harm with no remorse. Justice not being served for the victims caused the main target to take action into his own hands.
Nick Rice gave one of the cold hearted men a plea deal, which gave the other murder a harsher punishment. Although he gave both of the guilty men a punishment there was a man still able to see daylight again and be free. “I am not a label snob and have learned that the thrill of shopping can be just as great, if not more so when you find a bargain” (Sophie Kinsella). Nick gave a murder a second chance at life by letting him take the easy way out. Their always a difference between business and friends, but Nick rather let a criminal out on the street to better his career. “ Never be a food snob. Learn from everyone you meet - The fish guy at your market, the lady at the local diner, farmers cheese marker. Ask questions, try everything and eat up!” (Rachael Ray). Nick should have made the better choice that best fits the people rather than himself.
Clyde wanted the murders of his family to feel the same pain that he felt for all the past years. He brutally
Most times when hearing this statement from people, most of them want something more then what was given. Victim’s families wanting the accused to be dealt with hasher or even given the same treatment as they pursed on the victim. As a community to achieve justice they should be better informed on our legal system and also treated equally so that we could all be on the same page as one another.
Showing people that commit these atrocious crimes that this behavior remains intoleratable and that a punishment that fits every crime exists shows what is necessary to detour future criminals. If more criminals believe that they can be caught, tried and executed they will be less inclined to commit such heinous crimes. If we as a government do not execute murderers that in turn could have deterred other murders, then we have allowed the killings to continue and innocent victims to die. Lowe concludes, “The whole reason why nations and governments exist is to defend their decent citizens from vicious criminals. When it fails to do that, they become of little use to its citizens. When a society ignores their
Law and Order’s portrayal of the justice system further validated my preexisting notions of the flaws of the justice system, and also led me to an interesting realization; the episode seems to imply that the justice system’s spiteful, irrational response to violent crimes is, above all else, an indictment on society. Following the execution, District Attorney Adam Schiff is asked why he changed his stance on capital punishment. His response is clear: it wasn’t he who changed his mind; instead, “the people changed theirs” (“Aftershock”). The criminal justice system didn’t shape itself into the flawed institution that it has become; conversely, it was the general population’s insecurity and vengeance that really gave birth to this system. But why? As
In the case of Stanley Tookie Williams’s execution by the state of California was justified. Williams was the co-founder of the infamous Crips gang. Throughout his gang career he put his community in danger. 51-year old Williams was convicted of murder. He killed a couple along with their daughter, and a store clerk. Williams showed no remorse and according to witness he bragged about the murders. Not only was Williams a murder but he was a leader of one of the most dangerous gangs. It is known that gang leaders still have power over their people even behind bars. Williams was a very influential person for all the wrong reasons. He had followers that would agree and act upon his requests. So influential that celebrities such
One does not have to be attacked to be a victim. The woman who must run to her car after shopping at night is a victim, as is the tired cleaning woman who can 't ride a subway home without being afraid. We do not seek to violate the rights of defendants. But shouldn 't we feel more compassion for the victims of crime than for those who commit crime? For the first time in 20 years, the crime index has fallen 2 years in a
Despite the level of irritation, people genuinely perceive killing another person as an evil act. According to 18 U.S. Code § 1111 - Murder, it states “Murder is the unlawful killing of a human being, or a fetus, with malice aforethought (a). Whoever is guilty of murder in the first degree shall be punished by death or by imprisonment for life” (b). Therefore, killing a person is not just about the illegality, but also the judicial punishments by law. There are several types of murder in the United States, such as: first degree murder, second degree murder, felony murder and aggravating circumstances. In the news article “Serial killer is denied parole again”, Hamilton introduces Juan Corona’s first degree murder case who has murdered 25 farm labors in the year 1971, and is currently he still serving a life sentence in the Corcoran State Prison, California. At the same time, the reporter highlights that The State Board of Parole has rejected Corona’s 8th parole request on November 9, 2016. In short, people should appreciate laws, understand crime, and acknowledge the importance of theories such as differential association theory because they aid the human society to solve social problems and accelerate public safety.
The system works that the criminal does the crime, the criminal gets caught, tried and convicted, and it is understood that the punishment will be severe. The person the criminal has killed no longer has a part to play in this. Unfortunately the murderer has deprived their family and friends of a loved one. Their grief begins with the murder. “It may not end with the murderer’s execution, but the execution does engender a feeling of relief at no longer having to think about the ordeal- a feeling which often fails to arise while the murder still lives on” (The Facts). the system in place currently is there for the purpose of granting justice, cannot do so for the surviving victims, unless the murderer himself is put to death (The Facts).
It is difficult to imagine a time in history when criminals were able to commit severe crimes and go unpunished or be punished by the law in a lenient manner. How is that someone could unjustly put an end to someone else’s life and be sentenced to prison for seven years, maybe ten. That term sounds like a lengthy time but in my view a person who inflicts harm on another individual should be punished in a more severely way. The wonderful thing about the legal system in this country is that it can change whether it is repealed, amended, or a new law or sets of laws are created. The fact that the ability to propose a law is not solemnly reserved to the government makes our legal system quite remarkable. We have the ability to create a change
The cops judged Nick so quickly because they thought Nick was acting like his father. The cops accused Nick for murdering because of his fascination of violence. During SAR meetings he draws a lot about violence. Since Nick was accused of murder all his classmates and teachers start looking at him in a different way.
If we exam the case of the Rodney King beating that occurred in the early 90’s. Clear video footage was seen and any person with or without knowledge of law would determine things were handled in extremely unprofessional and unjust ways. In today’s society, the fear of repeating unjust ways and acts against unruly citizens or any targeted person,
“Lennie never done it in meanness” but he never learned from his mistakes (95). Although, he often “tried not to forget,” ultimately Lennie was incapable of remembering his past mistakes, leading to the recurrence of the same errors (4). If Lennie were to survive, he would most likely continue this course of action, and many more people would be in peril. Thus, there is a reason why society wants “to lynch Lennie” (42). They want to “shoot [him] for a coyote,” because Lennie is essentially a rabid animal that has been sick too long to save (13). He is still sweet and caring, but there is blood on his hands and as time continues his hands become dirtier and dirtier with every life he harms. After a certain point society would realize that all efforts to help Lennie would be in vain and eventually a judge would face the same choice as George: should he save one life and endanger thousands or condemn one life and spare millions? Either way someone would die; the only question is whether that person should be an innocent passerby brutally murdered by Lennie, or if it should be Lennie, the man who had brutally murdered an innocent
In American society, justice is blind. Justice is commonly defined as a rightful or lawful act. Or in other terms to bring to justice, to come before a court for trial or to receive punishment for one’s misdeeds. Some believe it is fairly administered and equal. But lack within the criminal justice system make us question equality. There are two individual aspects of how justice can be served; the perspective of the victim and the perspective of the criminal "per say". I will be focusing on instances in which wrongfully people were punished for crimes they didn 't commit and families or victims thought justice was served. The first case in which justice was wrongfully served is the case of Louis Taylor. Louis Taylor did forty-one years to life for something he didn 't do. Secondly, Steven Avery served eighteen years for being wrongfully convicted for rape. Although in Avery 's case he was exonerated through DNA testing.
he rests a measure of blame for killing on the victim herself she is ultimately a manipulative figure in this scene,as she fails to understand the danger of lennie despite his violent power with mutilating her husbands hand. What she did not realise is that he is not just a harmlws admirer anymore but he understands his actions as morally wrong but like and animal he only knows that he has done something wrong by killling a puppy and curley's wife. The question of intrinsic value of human life never enters his thinking .This is evident when he takes the puppys body instead of curleys wife.He is like a dog who feels loyal to his owner which in this case is George so therefore he doesnt want to let him down.He simply feels that he will lose George
The law should be abided by no matter the circumstances, however in the court there can be errors occur during the actual hearing or when the suspect was arrested. If an individual killed someone, I believe no matter the circumstances they should be locked up for the rest of their life without the chance of parol. Although this is my opinion, many laws protect each citizen and some are sometimes forgotten. One law thats sometimes not given to the defendant by the police is their Miranda Rights, so if not provided when arrested their hearing is thrown out and they are released. The Miranda Rights is the right to silence warning provided by a police officer before they are questioned about their criminal act. Also, a defendant cannot be tried
If a person killed another innocent person in a heinous manner, they desrve to killed too. According to the aritcle of josh powell , first he disappered his wife and after that he planed to kill his two young sons which he did killed in terrible way. those boys were burning of fire.A person that takes another person should not sit in a jail for the rest of life wating that food that they get there. No murderer should ever have the rights to live after they took the life of somebody else. He did'nt just killed them, even he killed the person who is still alive. For example now People of their family have to live alone. what if they had old dad and mom? how will they survie without their child? how will would it feel if a close sibling, friend
