Inventions have affected and changed many people's lives. It is a constant use in humans lifestyles, and they can adapt to technological devices very quickly. The Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, described how people living in a productive time came to know of new technology, and how it shaped the people of Cold Sassy. An invention that became known back then, was the telephone. Its use was to communicate with others instantly and efficiently. A current invention that affected people globally, was the cellphone. It can send messages and call anywhere he or she goes. These technical inventions have built our world today.
Alexander Bell had designed the first telephone in 1876. He worked as a school for the deaf, and attempted to create a

Many people could talk to others that lived very far. It was more convenient, and everyone enjoyed having one at home. Later on, in 1992, SMS or text messaging was developed by Neil Papworth. Before, the mobile phone didn’t have a keyboard but Papworth made it possible. Now, people could send messages to their loved ones, and they didn’t have to call. It was a faster way of reaching others through messaging. In 2007, Steve Jobs announced the Iphone at the Macworld convention, and caught many people’s attention. The Iphone was more advanced than any other cell phone. It allowed access to sending emails, the internet, and social media. It has many apps such as, a Safari engine, weather, news, banking, reminders, and other helpful tips. These are some of the reasons why cell phones have affected many lives of today.
In conclusion, inventions have changed many lives of the people. In the past,
Alexander Bell had invented the first telephone for better communication, and he had inspired many great inventors. Those creators would then invent efficient and rapid ways of communication for people to talk with others at home or anywhere they travel. The first telephone has evolved since the time Bell invented it. Now, many people have access to useful information, and it has become one of the world’s important creations of all
The first mobile phones, due to its “smaller” size, would still be considered very large in today’s world. Many of the early cell phones were considered “car phones” because they were shaped like a brick and could not fit into one's pocket. The first cell phone was called the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x and was commercially available in 1983. The cellular technology to call these phones was analog frequencies. In the early 2000’s, cell phones became smaller is size and the software got faster. The introduction of the Blackberry popularized the use of the technology allowing more and more people to be involved. Cell phones became popular with the introduction of text messaging, short messages that can be sent to another person. Texting has become an easier and quicker form of communicating with others. Teenagers and children grew to love this feature as a main form of communication. They took on this mainly because it is very private and did not have to be loud in a situation that was not appropriate. “Today’s teens will carry the technology with them as a part of their repertoire of communication possibilities. Where older generations, when
Technology is all around the world, just about everywhere there is some type of technology. Phones have filled a huge part of that technology, but even though phones hold a big part, there is much more technology. “Back in the 1950’s, getting a hold of someone meant calling them on their house phone, work phone or visiting them at their home. There were no pagers or mobile phones, and certainly no texting, email or instant messaging of any kind” (Westenberg.) Phones have taken a serious leap of remodeling since when they first came into action in the 1800s. The change was not just super huge, it also came at a rapid pace. “Then our main communication methods began to drastically change around the mid-to-late 90’s. With flip phones from Motorola, candybar phones from Nokia, and very early PDAs from BlackBerry, T-Mobile, Palm and others,
Alexander Graham Bell (March 3rd – August 2nd, 1922 a Scottish-born scientist) demonstrated the first practical telephone in 1876, when the world was not quite waiting for the telephone and had a hard time accepting the invention. Biss opens the essay with a quote “Of what use is such an invention?”, line 1. The quote appeared in The New York World, shortly after the presentation of Bell´s telephone. In this part, Biss seems ironic, as she has chosen to use that exact quote in an essay published in 2008. There is no doubt; The telephone had already made a great impact on us back in 2008 and most of us probably think of it as a tool we cannot live without. A telephone has become a matter of course in any household throughout most of the world and we definitely find the telephone of great use. In the 1870´s, people did not really understand the purpose of the telephone and even the idea of a national telephone network seemed useless, line 5-8. People were not informed about the benefits of having a
In the book, Cold Sassy Tree by Olive Ann Burns, Will Tweedy’s mother, Mama, exhibits extraordinary sensitivity when Grandpa Rucker Blakeslee, her father, marries a young woman who works for him just weeks after his wife dies. When Grandpa comes home and announces his marriage to Miss Love Simpson Mama comes undone. She sees the marriage as a disgrace to her mother’s memory, rightfully so. Mama and her younger sister Loma dramatically cry together about the
After working for his dad for a while Bell meet someone by the name of Thomas Watson, and they soon became partners. They worked on a design of the “first practical telephone.” “On March 10, 1876, Bell and Watson were successful.” After the long hard days of working on the design they had done it. They had made the first telephone. That was one of the biggest impacts on the world anybody could have ever done. People saw how smart Alexander Graham Bell was by making all of these inventions. They also saw what a great man he
The idea of the telephone being invented was thought in 1874 by Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell thought of the idea because he was influenced by the deaf and because he taught them when his wife, also one of his students, and mother were deaf. In 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the first telephone. Alexander’s first words to be spoken through a telephone were “Mr. Watson, come here, I want you.” The telephone was life changing for many people because they didn’t have to use letters or telegraph’s and the telephone was very easy to use. Before the telephone was invented some people would use the telegraph but not all people would use it
Have you ever thought about life what life was like when communication was hard? If you were far away from someone you would either have to write or walk, and both of those would take a long time to get a message somewhere. The introduction of the telephone changed the way our world worked. If you have used a phone anytime in your life, and almost everyone has, you need to thank the creator, Alexander Graham Bell. Alexander Graham Bell has changed the way our world works, thanks to his many famous and important inventions.
There has been a breakthrough in the ways of communication! Yesterday, on March 7, 1876, Alexander Graham Bell invented the telephone! Bell’s interest in communicating through wires peaked when he moved to Boston, Massachusetts in the 1870’s. Bell was fascinated by Samuel F. B. Morse’s telegraph, however there was a drawback to the telegraph: it still needed hand-delivery of messages between telegraph stations and receivers, and only one message could be transmitted at a time. Bell strived to create what he called the "harmonic telegraph," a device that combined parts of the telegraph and record player to allow people to speak to each other from a distance. Bell developed a prototype with Thomas A. Watson’s help, and after spending three days
Alexander Graham Bell once said ”Sometimes we stare so long at a door that is closing that we see too late the one that is open”. In the 1870’s there was no way to contact someone or give out any information other than by telegraph, newspaper, or by a letter. In 1876 one man and his partner changed the way word was spread. Alexander Graham Bell is the man who turned the dream of being able to communicate with others and hear the sound of a voice into a reality. The telephone is the most known invention of Alexander Bell, but there are several other items he has created.
Alexander Graham Bell’s invention of the telephone got us so far in the world today. With phones we can easily communicate through phone call or even text messaging, we can access the Internet faster, and we can purchase or download music and apps for entertainment. The evolution of the telephone, went from phones that hang from a wall with 10 foot cords, to bag phones, to other cordless cell phones just a little smaller, to flip phones, then finally to the touch screen phone. The phone has come so far in the world. If it wasn’t for Alexander Graham Bell, where would we be
All in all, the telephone is an essential tool in home and businesses. It’s most dramatic effect was on writing and teaching. The telephone was invented by Alexander Graham Bell on February 12, 1877 in a New York patent office. (Lewis, 31-33) There were many steps in creating this great invention but it was all worth it. America and also the whole world now has a way of communication that revolutionized their practices as well as their lives.
The first words ever said on telephone were "Mr. Watson--come here--I want to see you.” Alexander Graham Bell invented a machine that enables people to communicate easily. This everyday device is called the telephone. Bell created the telephone on March 10, 1876. Ever since then, it impacted the world tremendously. The invention of the telephone had many advantages. For instance, it turned into an all purpose tool used in various homes, businesses, and in schools. In addition, the phone provided many civilians the feeling of security. The telephone became a useful gadget used from all over the world, thanks to Alexander Graham Bell.
The cell phone today can do just about anything needed, and is an outstanding improvement from when the first cell phone was invented. Major improvements such as its appearance, and its overall usefulness and capability. Though the first cell phone was an extreme breakthrough for modern technology at the time, the technological advancement today has made the cell phone not only extremely handy, but considered by most as a necessity. Only time can tell what future cell phones will be like and how we can compare them to the way we use them
The telephone is one of a few inventions that change the world. However, not many people know about the inventors who developed this innovative technology. Before the invention of the telephone, the popularity of the telegraph was thriving in the second half of the nineteenth century. However, Alexander Bell believed that he could find something better to communicate besides dots and dashes. Bell’s method was to carry multiple messages on a single wire by using a telegraph transmitter (Pbs.org, 1999). Initially, Bell developed the idea while he was living in Canada. At the age of twenty six, he moved to Boston, Massachusetts where he taught deaf people to speak (famousscientist.org, 2014). While teaching in Boston, he realized that transmitting human speech has great potential. He began spending less time on teaching and decided to hire an electrical
It is very hard to imagine life without cell phones. “The mobile device has become our communications hub, our diary, our entertainment portal, our primary source of media consumption, our wallet, and our gateway to real-time information tailored to our needs. The revolution is now!” (Nihal Mehta, Eniac Ventures). In the past, people invented the telephone to make distances became closer between each other. Everyone was in need for this invention, so scientists developed the old telephone to the cell phone. Martin Cooper is the first inventor of the mobile phone in 1973. Because of the development of modern technology, cell phones are not only used for calling, but also for texting, working, playing, surfing the internet, and many other things. Because of these features, the use of cell phone has become increasing. Cell phones have changed life to become easier for people and they have many causes to use them daily, such as informing about emergency situations, keeping in touch with people, and managing their work.
