The concept of conducting camps used to incarcerate, degrade and essentially murder millions of innocent people who were deemed ‘unsuitable’ would be barbaric, nonsensical and deranged to nearly any person. But what was truly intriguing was the fact that these camps were at a point in time supported and encouraged by many. The formation of these camps known as “Concentration Camps” were notorious for being one of the most unnerving events in not only WWII, but even world history. The treatment that citizens like Jews had to experience still influence people nearly 70 years later, after the end of World War II in 1945. Although concentration camps have been in use before, they were most present in WWII when Hitler rose to power and spread his ideology of racial superiority. The concentration camps during the Holocaust would hold ”Jews, Social Democrats, Communists, liberals, Freemasons, Jehovah 's Witnesses, clergy who opposed the Nazis, and members of national opposition movements” (Concentration Camp System: In Depth). These people were, according to Hitler’s Nazi Theory, inferior to the race he wanted to create, therefore deserving to be eradicated or imprisoned. In short, Concentration camps became a major element in the Nazi regime for WWII, and millions were killed through these camps unfairly.
To begin with, Hitler and the Nazi regime cruelly targeted specific people with different characteristics and sent them to concentration camps because they were judged as unsuited to live in Germany. This racism was initiated by Hitler’s Nazi Theory, which blamed specific races as a scapegoat for Hitler. His theory described how ' 'No individual could overcome the innate qualities of race. All of human history could be explained in terms of racial struggle" (Ushmm.org). Hitler claimed that the underlying cause to all arguments and wars were the differences in race. As a result, this is the reason to Hitler’s motive to cleanse Germany and kill specific types of people by creating concentration camps.
