On 16 August, 1987 at approximately 8:45 pm, Northwest Flight 255 took off from Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport in Michigan. After liftoff the plan began to roll from side to side being less than 50 feet above the ground and was unable to climb to a higher altitude. Due to the plane rolling from side to side, with the left wing striking a light pole causing it to catch fire and disintegrate. This caused the plane to roll approximately 90 degrees to the left where it struck the roof of a rental car company before crashing into a roadway where it struck vehicles before breaking apart with the fuselage hitting a railroad overpass and the I-94 eastbound overpass. 148 out of 149 passengers, all six crew members were killed by the crash
On September 11, 2001 four planes were hijacked by terrorists. After the hijacking, two of the airplanes were crashed into the North and South Towers of the World Trade Center. American Airlines flight 1420 crashed in Little Rock, Arkansas. The crash killed 11 people, after running off the runway and impacting an approach lighting structure. The causes of the crash are still being investigated but the likely causes include the plane touching down 2000 feet passed the runway threshold, the rapidly deteriorating weather, and a fatigued flight crew.
I must stress that we did not know that it was a plane. The building lurched violently and shook as if it were an earthquake. People screamed. I watched out my window as the building seemed to move 10 to 20 feet in each direction. It rumbled and shook long enough for me to get my wits about myself and grab a coworker and seek shelter under a doorway. Light fixtures and parts
Country road has always been one of Australia leading premium stockists of apparel and home wares. Country Road began as a small manufacturer but expanded and diversified to become a leading wholesaler/retailer of apparel and home wares in the Australian market. The great success of this fueled the company into an expansionary strategy into the lucrative yet highly competitive US markets and also further along the way into the Asian markets. The strategy of international expansion into Asia had involved alternative strategies instead of the aggressive strategy into US. Such strategies included strategic partnerships and franchising agreements. Country Road was successful at first with its defined higher quality products and
The central conflict in The Devil’s Highway, I believe, is Person vs. Nature. The whole book is about a group of men traveling through a desert, otherwise known as the Devil’s Highway. They go through scorching heat, and run across several life-threatening issues. I would definitely describe this conflict as an external conflict. The heat was so hot, and on top of that they had no food or water. Only the resources that lay around them. Which aren’t necessarily the most appealing. (Drinking their own urine, etc.) This conflict really advances the plot. If this conflict wasn’t included in the book, and the weather was perfect and they had water and food, then the book wouldn’t be what it was. A lot of the problems that they encountered had to
While Millions watched very frightened because of the events in New York, American Airlines Flight 77 went around downtown Washington D.C, and slammed into the west of the Pentagon military headquarters at 9:45 am. Jet fuel from the Boeing 757 caused a devastating flame that led to a collapse of the whole building. After all of this, 125 people were killed in the Pentagon itself while 64 died inside of the airplane. (History)
The history of the Chicago Skyway began in 1928, when the City Council of Chicago—motivated by the desire to strengthen connections between the city and the country’s Midwestern industrial base—requested a study for an elevated roadway to be constructed above the Pennsylvania Rail Road’s right of way. Although this proposal did not ultimately come to fruition, the planning set the stage on which the road would be built adjacent to this railroad. Concurrently, the Chicago Plan Commission had begun researching a southern extension of Lake Shore Drive beyond Jackson Park as a means to connect the city with Indiana. This study resulted in two possibilities for extending the roadway. The first possibility was to extend Lake Shore Drive along Stony Island Avenue to the Pennsylvania Railroad Right of way where it would proceed in the same manner as proposed in the 1928 plan; the second possibility was to simply extend the roadway along lake fill to Rainbow Beach Park, where it would then merge onto South Commercial Avenue which would carry it to Indiana Avenue.
Various roads and their influence on the west are explored in chapter 9, “The Power of the Road” in The American West: A New Interpretive History by authors Robert V. Hine and John Mack Faragher.
In the midst of Cold War, under threat of a nuclear attack, the United States government was looking for a way to increase the speed of transporting military personnel, resources, and people quickly across the US in a dynamic fashion. The Interstate highway was the most effective plan that was spawned as it could be easily repaired in the event of the nuclear attack, and it would regionally connect the entire nation. Although the Federal Aid Highway Act of 1956 was a costly federal spending program burdened with exorbitant maintenance costs, the construction of the Interstate Highway system proved to advance the nation economically with the facilitation of interstate transportation of goods allowing faster trade at lower costs, socially the

Chicago comes from a word spoken by Illinois people meaning “striped skunk”. It is also established as a water transit hub and evolved into a industrial metropolis. After its population grew to 4,000 was in named a city. The fire of 1871 that destroyed some of Chicago left more than 100,000 people homeless. The first sky-scraper was a 10-story Home Insurance Building built in 1855. Its first permanent resident was Jean Baptiste Point de Sable and he was a trader. He was a free black man from Haiti. The Illinois and Michigan Canal was finished in 1848.
For many people, it is hard to think of the current world without airplanes. This simple fact is what makes them so important to talk about in society. They might be overlooked sometimes, but they have added a lot to history and should not be taken for granted for what they achieve. To focus on a few countries, the United States of America and Great Britain, the invention of airplanes had some of its largest impact on them. Whether that be in terms of travel or warfare, these countries benefited more than the average. Planes made a whole new empire and became a necessity for everyday people, while also creating more jobs through the business of creating airlines. Something very robust for the time was how planes introduced a profession
