As far as I could remember, I have always appreciated by education and wanted to thrive with it. When i was 8 I had the great idea of becoming a mechanical engineer at northwestern.

When I graduated high school I had no idea what I wanted to do, all I knew is I was done with public school and could live my life as what I thought an adult was. My father and most of my family believed it was important for me to go to college, and get a kick start with my life. Though they weren’t wrong, I had no idea what I wanted to do and no discipline to do my studies to the full extent of my abilities.

Bernie Sanders, senator of the state of Vermont said, “The cost of college education today is so high that many young people are giving up their dream of going to college, while many others are graduating deeply in debt” (“Brainy Quote”). Each year students take out loans to pay for a college education. Is it really necessary? They are just going to be a statistic. I believe everyone should not go to college. College is not for everyone.

Robin Wilson had quite a compelling article, showing the potential contrast with the debt vs. the quality of life and stability a degree can provide. Wilson overall points show that the American dream we are all striving for has changed. She is able to demonstrate this through the use of several anecdotes. Wilson interviews with various professionals to see how they use these degrees to better themselves. In doing so she highlights various pros and cons of having a college education vs. the amount of debt they are now responsible for.

In recent discussions about college, a controversial issue has been the great amount of student debt owed by students. Hence, many students have opted to not go to college because they do not have the money to pay their student loan debts. In the essay“A Lifetime of Student Debt? Not Likely,” Robin Wilson argues that graduating college with student loan debts is a still better option than not attending college. On the other hand, other people contends that people should not go to college because they will end up in debt for the rest of their lives. My own view is that college is still a worthwhile investment that everyone should seek regardless of the debts they have to pay in the future. In other words, people should go to college. My

To have a goal enables a person to do his/her best in whatever they set out to accomplish. Achieving academic excellence in high school has given me a love of learning. This desire for more knowledge propels me towards a college education that will prepare me to do my best in my future. Having the perseverance to become healthier has inspired me to work toward being a dietician. I have chosen this career goal because an increasing number of people in our country are struggling with obesity. In addition to these goals of a higher education and a career path, I would like to be a mother and raise my own family. Family is very important to me because I believe that family has a major influence on one’s personality. Without the influence of my family, I would not be who I am today.

Before reading “The Reason College Costs More than You Think” by Jon Marcus, I paid attention on the title of his topic. It was sound very interesting because it was related to me.

Firstly, I look at the career that I wish to have in the future, and see the possible pathways to get there. Fortunately many university's in the GTA offer the program that educated you for that career. Knowing this I am motivated to apply to university. I am looking to do biomedical engineering in university, and after completing this 5 year program, I become able to apply to medical school. From those goals, I chose to be a pediatric nurse. It is hard to make a decision on which way should I major in but it is important to follow our heart when we have to make a decision on anything we do. The increasing cost of higher education in the United States has been a continuing topic for debate in recent decades. American society emphasizes the importance of education after high school, yet the cost of undergraduate and advanced degrees continually rises at a greater rate than inflation. According to the Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance, cost factors prevent 48% of college-qualified high school graduates from pursuing further education (McKeon, 2004, p. 45). The current system requires the majority of students to accumulate extensive debt with the expectation that they gain lucrative post-graduate employment to repay their loans.

I did not always want to be an engineer. But I have always had a passion for science. From a very young age I was always interested in finding out how this universe worked. I was also very interested in mathematics. I used to get really high marks in the subjects related to science and math. I also liked technology and I would spend a lot of time on the internet learning about how machines like cars and helicopters worked. Back then I studied these stuff just out of curiosity. I did not use to think about what I would do when I grow up. But, after I graduated High School, I became really concerned about what I would do with my life. For a long time I did not have a definitive answer to that question. After thinking about what my passions and talents are and what are the things I want out of my life, I decided to apply for an engineering degree.
