Day 1: I awoke covered in sand with the sun beating down on my face. Looking into the vast ocean upon me I knew I had survived the plane crash, but how could I have ended up on this mysterious island? I sat there for a moment trying to piece together what had occurred. It was June 17, 1979 and I was on a plane heading to Bosnia for a mission trip when the plane encountered engine problems. There were several loud booms coming from the cockpit when suddenly a huge explosion rips through the fuselage tearing the aircraft into several pieces. At this point I was sure death was upon me. Somehow, I managed to survive the plummet into the ocean and swim to a piece of debris floating in the water. This was the last thing I remember until waking up on the shore. God sure must have been looking out for me to have survived that crash!
After the shock had set in that I was still alive, it was time to decide what to do to survive on this island. Not knowing how long I will be here, there are three very important things to locate: food, water, and shelter. I walked along the shore looking for anything to wash up from the crash. I stumbled upon a few suitcases filled with clothes and several other items I could use to my disposal. While searching the shore I found absolutely no sign of life and realized that I was the only survivor that had made it to land. I then began walking inland to find water and a place to rest for the night. I could hear the sound of water flowing in the
9/11 was a horrific tragedy in America. The twin towers in New York City were crashed into planes that were hijacked. Everyone died in the buildings because they collapsed. The planes hit the 93-99 floor. The planes were sent by a guy named Osama Bin Laden. There was also another place that the planes hit which was in Virginia and the planes crashed into the pentagon.
The attack on the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11, 2001, had negative health consequences beyond the staggering loss of life. The James L. Zadroga 9/11 Health & Compensation Act, signed into law by President Obama in 2010, established the World Trade Center Health Program that ensured those affected by 9/11 received monitoring and treatment services for 9/11 related health problems up until 2011 and reopened the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund of 2001 to new applicants. The act was renewed in 2015 which included the reauthorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund, and over 72,000 responders and survivors are allowed to get medical monitoring, treatment, and compensation for their injuries. However, while federally-funded health care and medical monitoring for injured and ill 9/11 responders and survivors has been made permenant, the compensation program will expire in 2020 even while expecting thousands more cancer cases from exposure to 9/11 toxins in the coming years. The September 11th Victim Compensation Fund has to be renewed to continue to honor the injured and ill responders, survivors and their families for their heroic act and how their health is being punished for it.
The 9/11 terrorist attack is known as the worst in American History. A normal day on September 11th, 2001, nineteen terrorist from the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda prepared to hijack four planes. Two planes were flown into New York City hitting the towers of the World Trade Center. A third plane flew just right outside of Washington, D.C hitting the Pentagon. The last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. All attackers got on to the planes safely and were prepared to take their own lives and the lives of others (a suicide attack).
An event that sent the United States into emotional and economical distress, the attacks on the World Trade Centers on September 11, 2001 opened the eyes of Americans to the threat of terrorism. As the world watched, three planes were flown into each of the World Trade Centers and the Pentagon. The unexpected attack stunned americans everywhere and sent them into a feeling of confusion and want for those responsible to be punished. After investigation, it was discovered that those responsible were members of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda led by Osama bin Laden (History). The terrorists did these horrific attacks on the twin towers and the pentagon out of hatred of America. The fact that the attacks were done for essentially no
To the public eye, the 9/11 attacks were unprecedented and the overwhelming fear swarmed the nation. Across the nation families, businessmen, students, as well as every other member of society witnessed the emergency news broadcasting the video of the planes flying into the Twin Towers. This attack had especially affected those with loved ones living in New York and this fear manifested itself into our daily lives and those living in metropolitan areas feared a second terrorist attack. However, hope had reappeared in the form of unified forces including first-responders, medical teams, as well as local and international groups working together to provide aid and comfort to the victims and their families. Despite staring at the face of danger,
It began on September 11, 2001, just before 9:00 am, The skies were clear, blue and the temperature was around a perfect 80 degrees. Five hijackers boarded American Airlines Flight 11 heading for Los Angeles, Ca. They crashed Flight 11 into the north side of World Trade Center Tower 1. A few minutes later from the same airport, Logan International airport, five hijackers boarded United Airlines Flight 175 heading toward Los Angeles, Ca also. The hijackers crashed Flight 175 into World Trade Center Tower 2. At about the same time from Washington Dulles International airport, five hijackers boarded American Airlines Flight 77 heading to Los Angeles, Ca. and it was crashed into the Pentagon. Thirty minutes after Flight 77 leaves Washington Dulles, four hijackers boarded United Airlines Flight 93 from Newark International airport to San Francisco, Ca. The four hijackers crashed near Shanksville, Pa. after the passengers fought the hijackers. Experts suggested that Flight 93 's target is believed to have been either the Capitol or the White House. Flight 93 's cockpit voice recorder revealed crew and passengers tried to seize control of the plane from the hijackers after learning through phone calls that Flights 11, 77, and 175 had been crashed into buildings that morning. Once it became evident to the hijackers that the passengers might regain control of the plane, the hijackers rolled the plane and intentionally crashed it.
For those of the most recent generations, including myself, we do not remember much tragedy in the U.S. occurring during our lifetime. Sure we know about 9/11, WWII, and the Cold War from our history classes; but that's all it is to us from our perspective, history. For me the most recent catastrophe to have been caused by another country on U.S. soil was 9/11, I was only three years old at the time so I have no memory of it whatsoever. People my age and younger are not from a time of moral and national panic, especially the panic from a nuclear attack. As Bill Perry puts it, "The largest upcoming generation, the millennials, were raised in a time when the problem felt largely solved, and it’s easy for them to imagine it’s still quietly fading
Did you know that the 9/11 terrorist attack was the deadliest attack on American soil in United States history? On September 11, 2001, nineteen people from the Islamic extremist group al - Qaeda, hijacked four airplanes. Two of the airplanes were flown into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. One plane circled over Washington D.C. before hitting the west side of the Pentagon. The last plane landed in a field in Pennsylvania, after is was brought down by the passengers, but the destination was not known. A total of two thousand, nine hundred and ninety-nine people were killed during the 9/11 terrorist attacks (History.com Staff.).
September 11th terrorist attack the U.S., and we were forced to watch as they used airplanes to crash into the World Trade Centers in New York City. First responders and other rescue organizations were thrust into immediate action, and were very confused because they did not know how bad the situation was with the communications and disorganization of some of our government agencies. The horror of watching the WTC crashing down was shocking. We suffered a massive loss of life, so within this paper we will try to understand all the things that interfered with public safety’s responding to the crisis that day. This report will examine the types of programs that were carried out to help these organizations with communication and cooperation issues that could create a problem within these agencies across the board internally and externally, and discuss the different types of programs that were carried out after 9/11 to help LEOs and other organizations. These issues need to be discussed because without cooperation the leaders of these organizations are thrust into the limelight and deem as self-serving. Therefore, it is beneficial for everyone to find ways to deter terrorism, but that cannot happen if they do not cooperate. The FBI and the CIA are the main agencies that need to fix this issue, and make organizational changes, and it would behoove us to move past 9/11, and examine all the things that went wrong and fix them for the greater good of society.
Millions of people were affected by the September 11 terrorist attacks, both physical and mental. Not only rescue, recovery and cleanup workers, but also people who were in Lower Manhattan on 9/11 have developed chronic, mental and physical health conditions.
While my friends paddled away, Sophia and I were blown around by the wind, and wouldn’t get to the island in the predicted time window. We stopped at a dock and quickly were able to switch positions, so I was in the front of the boat, and sophia was in the back. This helped a lot but, we were coming upon a part of the route where we had to travel past an area where two islands allowed strong winds to come through. We paddled hard, not caring about the calluses or sore arms, just trying to get where we needed to be. Once our boat passed the channel of wind, we paddled our way past the choppy water and found our way to the island shore where Liam and Ethan were waiting. They helped us unpack and tie up the boat, when our counselor noticed a broken part of the boat. The yoke or middle beam of the boat was broken, which he explained, was extremely dangerous, and most likely why it was so hard to get to the island.
Approximately a year ago, six surgeons experienced an aviation crash. Their hospital, previously known as Seattle Grace Mercy West, had received a request to assist with a conjoined twin surgery from Boise Hospital, since they had just successfully completed a case of this type of surgery a month earlier. In response, Mercy West sent six of their surgeons from different specialties onto a plane that afternoon. The plane never arrived at Boise Hospital. In fact, it was not until three days later that a rescue helicopter spotted the wreckage in the middle of the woods. By the time the helicopter had arrived, two of the surgeons had died, and one had endured a serious injury to her right femur.
I searched the beaches on the island for a boat of some sort to take me far away. A sense of relief filled my body when I saw a fishing boat
When I stepped into the large neatly organized white polished plane, I never though something would go wrong. I woke up and found myself on an extremely hot bright sunny desert island filled with shiny soft bright green palm trees containing rough bright yellow hard felt juicy apples. The simple strong plane I was in earlier shattered into little pieces of broken glass and metal when crashing onto the wet slimy coffee colored sand and burning with red orange colored flames. After my realization to this heart throbbing incident I began to run pressing my eight inch footsteps into the wet squishy slimy light brown sand looking in every direction with my wide open eyes filled with confusion in search of other survivors. After finding four
The above mentioned airplane was a planned commercial passenger flight that took off from LaGuardia Airport, New York destined for Charlotte Douglas Airport in North Carolina on January 15, 2009. Six minutes after takeoff, the airplane was successfully abandoned in Hudson River after striking multiple birds during its initial climb out. The crew reported by radio two minutes after takeoff at an altitude of 3,200 feet, the Airbus experienced multiple bird strikes. The result of this multiple bird strikes, which occurred in northeast of George Washington Bridge was compressor stalls as well as loss of thrust in both engines. The Airbus was ditched in Hudson River after the aircrew
