In modern day society , students are on instagram instead of taking notes in class, office workers shop on ebay at work and parents take their iphones to the beach instead of the books they used to to read. Maggies Jackson , a writer for Boston Globe states electronics are less of annoyances , yet becoming more of a distraction leading to a new dark age. Jackson uses personal stories and tells of her extensive research in the article to make her readers believe in her credibility. These three rhetorical appeals combining with her alarmed tone creates an effective argument on electric distranticon.

To understand how this electricity works we must start with the basics. The atom is the smallest unit of matter, consisting of protons, neutrons, and electrons. Protons have a positive charge, neutrons have no charge, and electrons have a negative charge. Electric charges that are the same repel each other and charges that are different attract each other. Electric charges can exist alone, unlike magnetic poles.

Today, most people take electricity for granted, especially in the United States and other developed countries of the world. According to Walter Moss in his book, An Age of Progress?, Clashing Twentieth-Century Global Forces, during the twentieth century, perhaps no other technological advancement, even the automobile, affected the people of the world more than electricity. Electricity would become the foundation for the development of new technological advancements in industries such as agriculture, health and science, environment, and technology. Production and consumption in all these industries would continue to rise throughout the century with reliance on electricity to flourish.

The title of this story leads the readers to various interpretations about the content. It is possible for some readers to expect that this story is about a remarkable historic event involving electricity, and some might think of a scientific explanation of electricity if they read the title literally. Even some others might believe that the word ‘electrical’ symbolizes something else.

To make electricity it needs to have an equal amount of positive and negative ions. If it does not have an equal amount of ions it will be unstable and not balanced. All matter is made up of atoms, and atoms are made up of smaller particles. The three main particles making up an atom are the proton, the neutron, and the electron.
