Gangs were a huge part of the 1920s/30s, and were first formed during the prohibition era. When the 18th amendment was ratified, there was even more crime and violence than intended. People would do anything for alcohol, so these gangs practically took care of that and made huge amounts of money. Even when prohibition was over, gang remained intact. Some famous gangsters, beides Bonnie and Clyde, were Al Capone, Baby Face Nelson, and Machine Gun Kelly.
they are in prison and are fearless. These gang leaders come from the only family that they have
On January 2, 1932, ten officers were called to the Young family farm near Brookline, which was a village in the Ozark region of Missouri. There were there to arrest two local brothers for auto theft. The officers that were called to the scene were familiar with the Young brothers because they were well known as minor thieves throughout the 1920’s. On top of that, each of them had spent time in a state and federal penitentiary for burglary and theft. The three brothers were Paul Young, Harry Young and Jennings Young. Even though the three brothers had run-ins with the law, the local law enforcement considered the brothers' petty crimes as relatively harmless. That was until June 2, 1929, when Harry Young murdered Republic City Marshal Mark Neo, after he stopped Harry Young for drunk driving along with his other brothers who were in the car as well. Harry and his brothers fled to Texas, where they lived for a
No matter whether or not the gang did commit a crime, they were accused for most things that broke the law all over the country, even if they didn’t do it. The gang was setup to be captured at a drive in movie theater and then later arrested after Dillinger, the leader of the group, was included in a shootout killing a police officer (Ryan, 2017). After they were brought to prison, after about three months Dillinger faked his way out of prison, telling guards that a piece of wood shaped like a gun was real. It was later found out that John Dillinger’s lawyers bribed the guards to let him free using the gun as an excuse (Ryan, 2017). During the Dillinger Gangs run of robberies they stole over one hundred thousand dollars and wounded or killed many people(Ryan, 2017). Once he escaped the government had never wanted any outlaw more than him. Citizens of the United States were sent into a craze looking for Dillinger and his gang, only wanting the reward of fifteen thousand dollars to find him (Stuttman, 1994). Dillinger was hard to find because he got plastic surgery to change his fingerprints and his appearance (Stuttman,
Clyde was The Barrow Gang came to Arkansas in June of 1933. The only reason they came was to hideout while Bonnie Parker recovered from third degree burns she received from a car crash. They checked into Dennis Tourist Camp in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Eventually they ran low on money. So being the outlaws they were they went on a crime rampage. On June 22, Buck Barrow and W. D. Jones went to Alma, while Clyde Barrow stayed behind to tend to Bonnie’s burns. Buck and Jones tied up Henry Humphrey, Alma’s town marshal, in an attempt to rob the Commercial Bank. They were unsuccessful. The next day the two of them held up Nell Brown’s Grocery store in Fayetteville and got away with twenty dollars and Mr. Brown’s delivery truck. They later ditched the
Greetings! As noted in the last post, many gangs such as The Black P. Stone Nation were strongly influenced by the social environment in Chicago, Illinois. Check out this article about Chicago based gangs and how they developed. The article by Julie Jones posted on the Florida Department of Corrections website explained how Jeff Fort united the leaders of dozens of street gangs in order to form a single organization. As we all know, this group would later be known as El Rukn. The commission that ran the gang helped project the BPSN as a self-sufficient group that would benefit the community as a whole. As a result, the BPSN gained millions of dollars in federal anti-poverty funds. However, it was not a surprise that this money was used in order
These crimes involved getaway cars and stolen firearms to execute a variety of robberies such as car theft, street robberies, home invasion, as well as retail and bank robberies. All the robberies took place in southern Ontario and police believe these individuals are responsible for an additional 13 unresolved crimes. The article concludes with the goal of catching the remaining gang members to collapse their entire gang, for it to finally be over.
While in Joplin, Missouri, they stole a car and took many pictures in gang poses. When they left they forgot to take the film with them. The police developed the film to find the license plate number and tracked them down. Somewhere in Missouri, a police officer pulled the gang over; the gang forced the policeman into the car. Down the road aways the battery died on them and they left Bonnie in the car to keep a lookout. Meanwhile they walked to the closest store and forced the police officer to steal a
Outlaw Motorcycle Gangs roots began post World War II. These gangs have been classified as an organized crime affiliate due to the ongoing illegal activities they engage in for profit. I chose this topic because I have always been interested in these groups coincidentally, people I know through the military surprisingly have ties to biker gangs, despite the fact it is not authorized. Furthermore, a number of members are veterans, which makes sense due to a lot of these “clubs” establishing during war times and use a similar hierarchy. One article I had read was about the first Outlaw Motorcycle Club, founded in Chicago in 1935. That article was from the webpage entitled “Outlaws MC (est. 1935) More than Eighty Years of Biking and Brotherhood”
Nine years later they got released from jail and all went back to their houses 19 days later they came up with an idea. The idea was to go to New York City to rob JPMorgan Chase. The largest bank in the country.
3) During the 1960’s one of Oklahoma’s biggest cities, Tulsa was ridden with gangs like the Greasers and the Socs. As you got older, an alternative to a job was to join a gang or a mob.
Many problems persist in communities like the ones described in the articles, “If You Want to Observe’ Em, Join ‘Em” and “Gang Leader for a Day”. Problems consist of high crime rates, poor housing and living conditions, and an increase in violence. These effects happen in those areas because they are usually an “open social network”. They do not have the information like the middle and upper class have. If they have school systems in their society it is not the best education young kids should be getting. The resources are not easily available like we have them. According to James Coleman, “Information is important in providing a basis for action. But acquisition of information is costly” (S104). Coleman states that since receiving information
The Mexican Mafia, MS-13 and the Little Rock Street gangs all made a way through robbing people and selling drugs. They bullied their ways into neighborhoods, turned to transitional crimes; human smuggling and drug trafficking (Insight crime, 2017).
In 1972 Donald Chambers, Founder of the Bandidos, and two other members were arrested in El Paso for killing two drug dealers. The story goes that two of the members were sold baking powder instead of meth, from two men, Ray and Mel Tarver. After this the two men were kidnapped and driven into the Texas desert and involuntarily made to dig their own graves before being shot, killed, and buried. This shows how serious things can get when it comes to drugs to the motorcycle gangs. Another story to shows the treachery of these gangs comes from Waco Texas. At a Twin Peaks restaurant a shoot out broke out between the Bandidos and a rival club, the Cossacks. The shootout left 9 people dead and 18 hospitalized. At least 170 people got charged and arrested and over 100 weapons were confiscated. This happened May 17 of 2015; this just goes to show that these are still present day problems that the police have to deal
After the World War II (1939-1945), London is rebuilding its city after it suffered from continues bombings. Many well know architectural structures build by famous architect was destroyed and only few were barely standing.
