The Danger Of The Single Story Analysis

Satisfactory Essays

After watching a Ted Talk, “The Danger of the Single Story,” by the Nigerian author Chimamanda Adichie, I can say that I fully agree with Adichie on her point of view about the situation of stereotypes. At a young age, we draw thoughts and ideas from those around us. We come to conclusions of what people are and what they are like by how we were raised. For instance, I have grown up around Hispanics and Asians. My perspective of other cultures is going to be different than others. When others make a stereotypical statement about my cultural identity, they are certainly wrong or referring to a very specific group of people. “Asians can’t drive” or “Asians eat dogs” are common phrases of those who have a restricted perspective of a culture.
