A tragedy is an occasion that causes much misfortune and sadness. Tragedy can be seen throughout literature and most likely ends up with someone physically or mentally being killed. A very good example of a tragedy in literature is William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. The tale of Romeo and Juliet is about two young lovers that belong to feuding families’ that hate each other and their love must be kept secret. Unfortunately, not but a day after they are secretly wed, they are separated from each other, and later end up killing themselves because they cannot stand living without one another. However, their deaths are not entirely their fault. Friar Lawrence, Romeo, and Juliet were the most guilty characters that contributed to the tragic ending of William Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is one of the most guilty characters who contributed in the death of Romeo and Juliet. Not only was he uncautious in wedding Romeo and Juliet, but he devised a flawed and defective plan to keep them together. For example, Friar Lawrence in desperate hope and uncritical thinking wedded Romeo and Juliet in the afternoon of the day after they had met, “Come, come with me, and we will make short work; / For, by your leaves, you shall not stay alone / Till holy church incorporate two in one.” (2.6.35-7) If Friar Lawrence had not rushed the marriage and had Romeo and Juliet eloped and instead made the marriage public, maybe the two …show more content…
However, Romeo targeted a beautiful, young girl who did know any better than to be nice and fall for him. If Romeo had not have come on so strong, or if Romeo found another woman rather than Juliet, then Romeo and Juliet may have been able to escape their deaths and fulfill other desires. For instance, in the following lines, Romeo goes up to Juliet and confuses Juliet into loving
In the Second Act Friar Lawrence mumbled “These violent delights have violent ends. And in their triumph die”(II.VI.5-10). Friar Lawrence is the main influence on Romeo and Juliet's death because he had them marry too quickly, he also came up with the plan to fake poison Juliet. Because Friar Lawrence did not ensure Romeo knew the poisoning was fake, the distraught Romeo killed himself, and Juliet followed by killing herself.
In the classical romance Romeo and Juliet written by William Shakespeare many were distraught by the two lovers’ suicide. The most to blame for their deaths is Friar Lawrence. He took many risks helping Romeo and Juliet. He knew what he was getting himself into and still helped them. Some say he's a bad person for doing that, others say he was being kind.
Friar Lawrence is responsible for the marriage of Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence is completely aware of the feud between the Montague and Capulet families, which does not deter him from organising the marriage of this young couple. With the hope of restoring peace between Montagues and Capulets by turning the “households' rancour to pure love” Friar Lawrence agrees to organise the marriage (II, iii, 92). Friar Lawrence expresses his doubts about this marriage only a few scenes later by saying, “so smile the heavens upon this holy act, that after-hours with sorrow chide us not (II, vi, 1-2).” Friar Lawrence hopes the heavens will approve of his decision to organise this marriage, as he does not want to regret it later. He says this as he recognises that Romeo is far too young to understand what love is and that he should not be in such a serious relationship. Even though Friar Lawrence knows that this marriage could have Romeo and Juliet punished by their families and that this decision
daughter of his enemy. When he finds out in the party that Juliet is a
Therefore, Friar Lawrence was a major culprit for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet as he failed to speak with the feuding families and save Romeo and Juliet from their fateful death.
In “The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet” written by William Shakespeare the character Friar Lawrence was the most at fault for the tragic ending. The first reason that Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy, Is that he is a selfish and greedy man. He only wanted to bring them together because he wanted to be the hero of the town. The second reason that Friar Lawrence is responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s tragedy is that he rushes their marriage, He should’ve waited for them to really get to know each other. They’ve kissed twice and never been on a date or even have a normal conversation. Friar Lawrence only rushed them into the marriage because he wants to be the hero as fast as he can, he doesn’t even think to consider the consequences of what he is doing. If the marriage doesn’t work out, He could be forever hated by the families and he wouldn’t be the town hero. Friar Lawrence is a foolish man.
lovers whose decisions lead them to death. The character in this tragic play who is responsible for the deaths of these two romantic lovers is Friar Lawrence. Friar Lawrence should never of interfered with the lives of these two sweethearts for several reasons, Juliet and Romeo would never have died, he should never of married the adolescents and if he delivered the letter to Romeo himself instead of getting someone else to do it.
The death of Romeo and Juliet, who caused it, who is at fault, what happened as well as why did it happen. Romeo and Juliet are star crossed lovers that both commit suicide on the same night, did they do because of their family feud or was it more sinister than that? In Romeo and Juliet, William Shakespeare has Friar Lawrence assist in the double suicide of Romeo, as well as Juliet.
Friar lawrence is the one to blame for all mistakes and tragic events that occurred between both of the families because when Romeo rushed over to the church and asked he the friar if he could marry Romeo and Juliet secretly the friar should have denied his request because Romeo had told the friar that he just met Juliet the other day. If the friar would have denied Romeo’s request that would have left him sad but it would have also gave more time to know more about each other. Also the friar should have never kept the marriage a secret because since he did that the families did not know that they were now related, so if the two families would have known this then it would have stopped the hatred between them and Tybalt never would have started
If the Friar would have advised them not to marry and to wait for time to pass so they can get to know each other, then the tragedy once again could have been avoided. As a result, even though there are multiple points in the story where the characters could have avoided all the complications of what the relationship of Romeo and Juliet would bring they continue to act
Many say that Romeo and Juliet were the ones to blame for their own actions and death, but giving it a deeper thought they were victims of a plan and hatred. Obstacles between the two families led to a rift in the village were hatred is planted inside them, but some were just desperate for an end. Although the families are the main reason of their children’s death, but the major person to be blamed is Friar Lawrence, his desperation to end this conflict and to bring peace led to him to sacrificing two teenage lovers. Love isn't something we have invented, it's observable and powerful. We love people who have died; there is no social utility in it.
On the way to the Capulet party Romeo says, "I fear too early for my
Romeo and Juliet is the tale of two adolescents from rival families, who fight through the hardships to find love. In most of Shakespeare’s plays, the theme of love also comes with the theme of tragedy. It is within this style that Romeo and Juliet was written. Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet can be classified as a Shakespearean tragedy because it contains the main themes of fate, tragic flaw, and revenge, which are essential to his tragic plays.
Tragedy is an event causing great suffering, destruction, and distress. The shocking love story of Romeo and Juliet ended with two teens’ hasty decisions to commit suicide. William Shakespeare’s play, The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, focused on the love story of two teenagers, Romeo and Juliet. For they thought death was the only option, death they chose, but they thought wrong. Like many others in life, if only Romeo and Juliet had pondered a little longer, waited till their feelings of desperation dispersed, the tale of Romeo and Juliet could have ended with a different story.
A tragedy in literature is a tragic hero who falls due to a tragic flaw. Romeo’s immature personality has a huge effect on the end of the play. Romeo never thought before he acted, causing things to go wrong. For instance, before he killed Tybalt, he was angry in the moment not thinking about what would happen. When Romeo met Juliet he was in love with another girl. From here, his judgements eventually lead to his death. His tragic flaw is his unripe personality. Romeo enters this risky relationship as a young and carefree man, who doesn’t realize what could happen during this. The play Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare fits perfectly with the definition of a tragedy, beginning with two hopeless teens and ending in their death by their own violation.
