He was focused on what he had to do; he 'd planned carefully, and this train ride was the last leg to freedom with a half million dollars. The thief didn 't need the money in the sense that most people would need the money. He had bank accounts in several banks around the world. His lowest balance was a little over 3 million dollars. This last deposit would be more than 4 million dollars, maybe even closer to 6 million if he found the right buyer. He had decided it was time to retire, though, and he didn 't want to change his lifestyle. He was healthy, and not that old, so he needed a good nest egg to retire comfortably. As he sat on the train that night, he thought about the statue he carried in his bag. The theft had gone …show more content…
Soon, he 'd gotten bored of that, though, and he 'd embarked on his first theft. He 'd stolen a painting he 'd seen when he 'd visited a villa in the south of France. He 'd planned, and gotten away, but it had been close. After that, he was hooked. He 'd practiced and planned, and successfully stolen jewelry, art and cash from people who had too much. He took pride in the fact that he 'd only stolen from people who had gotten their own wealth by taking advantage of others. In his mind, he believed they deserved to give some away, so he wasn 't really hurting anyone. The young man was nervous. He had to get the money to buy his sister back from the people who took her. He had already tried to just grab her from them, the way they had grabbed her from him, but it hadn 't worked. He still had bruises from that encounter, and they assured him they would give her up as long as he came up with the $5000 price they had set. Five thousand dollars might as well be a million to him. He 'd never had enough to even warrant the bank account he 'd opened with his first pay check. His paltry checks barely covered his rent and food for him and his sister. What little he had left, his mother stole to cover her drug habit. She had been the one who told them where to find his sister. She said they 'd forced her, but he knew it was probably for drugs. That 's all that had
For my fiction book, I have decided to read “The Book Thief”, by the Australian writer Markus Zusak. The story begins with an introduction narrated by Death personified. I've found that unlike the many times I've read about this being and their thought process', this one is almost kinder in a way. It is not a heartless being that has merely grown bored of it's eternal task, it feels sympathy for those he effects, both directly and indirectly. It seems to take an almost childish interest in the main protagonist, Liesel Meminger, one filled with innocence and curiosity.
He quit smoking and chewing tobacco just to save up those extra few dollars. Although he was in illegal activities, such as selling alcohol which in that time was illegal, he was a “thug”. He made sure that no matter what he was doing, he accomplished his goal of having money. In the original dream, all the hard work you had to put forth to achieve your goal was like a lesson learned. However, in our century’s corrupted dream, all the struggles are worth it as long as you make it to the riches and the high standards of life. The whole act itself revolves completely out of money. It is more important to showcase items and mount them on walls then to show intelligence, faith and families.
“It is 1939, Nazi Germany. The country is holding its breath. Death has never been busier, and will be busier still.” In the Book Thief by Markus Zusak, the narrator death is haunted by humans. He revisits history, gets into the heart and minds of the characters, gives small hints of events to come and has an opinion all in the quest to reconcile humanity’s capability to do evil with humanity’s capability to do good.
The story “The Book Thief” wouldn’t be complete without the narrator Death. It would be different if Death wasn't showing so much effort to care about so many people dying. The author did do a good job on making Death the author and no one else. He said everything in a way that he was kind of telling his story about all the humans dying. In the novel “The Book Thief” death is the narrator and I wouldn't change it because the way he tells the story is that even though it's death you know how he feels about what is happening while the war was happening. In general he was tired of hearing about humans because all everyone would talk about is that people were dying and that they would die when the people came to bomb Himmel Street. The book would be different if Liesel would be telling the story because she would just be saying it in her point of view and she wouldn't be able to see what happened to

Tom Walker sat at his bedside feeling rather melancholy for he had not much to do but be chided at by his notorious witch of a wife. They both lived in their humble abode of an apartment in the middle of a city but they had a sublime view that overlooked the scenery of the domicile's dumpsters. They lived poorly, just barely getting by to afford a couple gallons of gas. Tom grew a hatred for almost everyone around and had only a handful of “friends”, he believed that money was the most valuable and important thing in his life.

He dressed himself in fine clothes, ate in the dining hall, and went out on a night on the town with a college boy that he met. The atmosphere of living grandly unfortunately collided with the thought of going back to Cordelia Street when his money ran out.
Charles was quite a simple man, he was nearing his 50’s, and has been loyal for all those years. He used to make a good amount of money in his days, but now that everyone’s against him, he’s lost the ability to put food on the table most of the time. The poor man felt his stomach grumble, and could hear his family’s too a mile away. He tried to walk home as fast as possible, but was quite slow due to the tar, but if Charles didn’t get home by nightfall, he’d get beaten again.
He was employed, but made no money. He took money from Charley and pretended that he earned it. He never earned anything. The man was a huge liar, he took and gave without thinking of the consequences nor caring about them. It is not right what he did.
World War Two is heating up. Jews are dying in massive numbers everyday. In Nazi Germany everything seems to be going Hitler's way. On a small street, named Himmel Street, in Munich there's a young girl named Liesel Meminger. Her world is torn apart, but also shaped by the death around her. In Markus Zusak’s The Book Thief death is everywhere and impacts each character differently from Death’s interest with Liesel, to how Liesel grieves, and to the unknowing actions that come out of Erik Vandenburg’s death.
He thought he could figure out a way around the banishment and still get what he wanted. He thought that his wants were more
“‘Sam,’ says he,’ what’s 250$ after all?’” In the story, “the Ransom of Red Chief”, Bill and Sam kidnapped Red Chief,( A.K.A. Johnny) for ransom money, but Red Chief’s wild nature forces them to return him to his father. In the short story, “the Ransom of Red Chief”, O. Henry depicts the theme that desperate times call for desperate measures, and desperate measures often aren’t thought through.
