There are many different perspectives on what an Outsider is. The term outsiders is used to portray a social group of people called the greasers that do not necessarily fit in with the community or other people. The greasers are poor, most of them have dropped out of school , and they do not live in the best conditions as the socs do. There are many outsiders in the book, but three people that immediately come to my that could fit the definition of outsiders are Ponyboy, Dally, and Cherry. First off, Ponyboy perfectly fits the description of an Outsider. Ponyboy is known as the character who lacks common sense. Unlike the other greasers, Pony is very intelligent. Ponyboy comes home and finds reading a book enjoyable whereas most others
An outsider is defined as “a person who does not belong to a particular group.” In the book, The Outsiders, many of the characters can be described as being an outcast from the social society. Ponyboy, Johnny, and Cherry are outsiders in this novel because none of them really fit into the groups that they’re “supposed” to be in.
An outsider is someone who is not accepted or is isolated from society. ‘Of Mice and Men’ is set in the 1930’s, where society considered many people as outsiders. During this period, many people were racist, sexist and prejudice towards disabled people. This is shown with several characters in the novel including Crooks, Curly’s wife and Candy who are all considered as outsiders in this novel, since they each had something that the society at that time were prejudice towards.
No matter where one goes on this dismal chunk of rock, one will probably encounter an outsider. In high school lunchrooms there is always at least one poor, sad teenager who has the unlucky seat next to the trash can. In parks and school playgrounds there is always that one melancholy kid that provides a stark contrast from the joyful shouts and screams coming from the other playing children. The experience of being an outsider is an inescapable universal condition that can be caused through social class, appearance, or other factors.
Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? Whether outsiders are misjudged or misunderstood depends on whose perspective you view this question from. When you look at someone you are developing an opinion of them, and you may be misjudging them by deciding they are an outsider. While when you are the person being judged you feel that you are just simply misunderstood. You may have experienced one or probably both of these perspectives. Moreover to truly understand what it means to be an outsider you need to understand both of these perspectives.
What makes up an “Outsider”? In 1967, Oklahoma S.E. Hinton decided to write a book called the “Outsiders”. Social groups are related to Outsiders by making you feel like you’re separated from the rest of society. The Outsiders consist of two groups of teenagers called the greasers and the Socs (Socials). The true Outsiders are those who think differently about the world.
What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you ever been an “outsider”? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren’t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.
What does Outsider really mean? Excluded, harsh family, different, stand out, mistreated, an Outsider stands alone. Why? Because people in this world just don’t understand what it’s like to be an Outsider. Don’t! I repeat don’t excluded your peers who see things a different way. The way they see finest. Encourage them along with their feelings, thoughts, also their differences. Treat them the same way you treat others. It explains that many people are crudely teased, furthermore, they’re taught to feel hurt by their peers. Instead of not helping peers you should comfort Outsiders to continue doing what they’re doing. Outsiders should not be mistreated the way they are because one of a kind. You can extremely hurt your peers by telling them they’re different. When the Greasers were called “Greases” by their peers( Someone will come by and scream “Greaser!” at them, which doesn’t make you feel too hot ⁽⁴⁾) it didn’t feel so pleasing. So, if you are being mistreated along with considering you may be an Outsider remember these teens. Life is rough, not just for you for everyone. Greasers were all Outsiders in this book. Greasers were the gang of which everyone knew. Getting into fights quite often, plus long hair, this gang stuck out like a sore thumb. Greasers were kicked around, picked on, as well as they were jumped by the Socs. But that’s not to say they never did anything back. Excluded from Soc groups, treated poorly, the Outsiders in this town were only included in groups
The Outsiders is a Novel set in the 1960’s that explains the divide between people with similarities and differences. The book explains life as it was in the past, is in the present, and will be in the future. It talks about the rift between different people in society and their social classes. Every rift must try to be changed by someone for the benefit of society, and that person is exalted as a hero. There are many heroes in the outsiders, but the biggest hero is Ponyboy because he was empathetic to others, quick to think and act, and stands strong and moves forward to overcome challenging events in life that seem impossible to overcome.
An outsider is a person who is alienated and has different qualities compared to others. For example, Dallas who is also known as Dally is an outsider since he was treated poorly by his father which contributed to his toughness and was arrested at the age of 10. Dally is described by Ponyboy to have an elfish face with high cheekbones, a pointed chin, small, blazing blue eyes, sharp animal teeth, and ears like a lynx. Dally is the toughest among all Greasers. He is tough but he treats the Greasers as his family. He once mentioned killing the Soc who jumped Johnny. Dally sees Johny as the only thing he loves. He always wants Johnny to be as tough as him so that he couldn't
Remember in Junior High and High School when there were groups of different people? Like the football, basketball and cheerleaders hang out in a big group, but in the other corner there are the gamers, the book smart kids and then the others that don’t fit in. So now I am asking you as a reader, what do you think? Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? In my opinion, I think that the outsiders are both misunderstood and misjudged.
An outsider is someone who stands out from the crowd. They have their own beliefs, their own way or thinking. Standing out is often thought of in a negative way, but it can bring along many positive things. During the time period of Martin Luther King Jr., there were many protestors who began to stand up for themselves and their race. Even though many people did it, there were only a few people who started the movement, and those people, were outsiders. Two people who were outsiders from that time period were Jackie Robinson and Rosa Parks. They stood against normal beliefs and tried to change the way of life, which is what many outsiders do. An outsider is not simply someone who is misjudged or misunderstood.
Which group in the Outsiders are the real outsiders? If you were wondering what an outsider is, outsiders are basically a group/person that doesn't have all the thing a everyday Joe would have. They aren't as privileged and don't have many expectations. In this book, the outsiders to choose from are the Greasers and Socs and/or individuals.
In the novel the outsiders by S.E. Hinton the identity of ponyboy is he is a greaser and doesn’t do everything they do the only things he does that they do is smoke and go to the rumbles and fight as a group ponyboy is a scared kid but at times can be tough and stands up for the right things and doesn’t go and beat up people that don’t have any reason for doing it. Ponyboy is a hero due to jumping into the church when it was on fire and saved so many kids as well as johnny. Ponyboy was a straight A student that got good grades almost all the time. Being a greaser to there town was not always a good thing the reason for this is
I think that the best theme song would be “Outsiders” by Lecrae. I think that because the Greasers were rebels and that beat in that song reminds me of something they would listen to. It also says “living the free life.” Greasers can do whatever they want some drop out, some party, and some fight. It also says “we might die.” Greasers never knew what would happen because of the rivalry between them and the socs. MY next connection is “unashamed and all afraid to live out what they was supposed to be.” Greasers always said that they were born to be a greaser and nothing can change that. They also say that they are proud to be a greaser and wouldn’t change that. My last connection is “I tried my best to fit in.” Greasers always had trouble fitting
First, there are several types of outsider based on different reasons. A person who decides to take himself away from the society, or one who different from most people can be said to be an outsider. a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc. An outsider can also mean someone who is not within boundary or enclosure. “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (OutsiderDictionary.com. Web. Pg.1). Though the dictionary has already described what an outsider meant, an outsider can also be when one is trying really hard to succeed at a particular thing but is having difficulty doing that; like in the case of a student who is having difficulty in passing a course while most of the students seem to be having no problem with the class. Such student can be said to be an outsider. While this is the case for students, a homeless is said to be an outsider too.
