The Effect Parents Have on Their Children. Essay

To be a parent is a passionate business and it consists of anger as well as love. Parenting is a long-term affair. It is much longer than the majority of relationships in child care settings. Parents provide the continuity through the child’s life. Child care providers and teachers come and go in a child’s life, but parents provide the continuity that is needed.

A parent’s parenting styles are as diverse as the world we live in today. Nowadays, parents only want what is best for their children and their parenting styles plays a crucial role in the development of children which will in the long run, not only effect the child’s childhood years, but later prolong into their adult life as well.

Parenting is not one of the easiest jobs in the world to have; you either are responsible enough to parent or you're not responsible enough.You have to be able to raise a child from birth and teach he/she all the necessary tools to succeed in life. As said in The Blackwell Encyclopedia of Social Work, “Parenting is the process of promoting and supporting the physical, emotional, social, and intellectual development of a child from infancy to adulthood” (245). All parents will raise their children in different ways, whether they are very strict or they’re lenient, others can be easy going and strict depending on the situation and the way they group up will shape them into who they become as adults as shown in The Glass Castle with Jeannette Walls and her parents.

There are many different types of parents with diverse parenting styles in the world. Some are efficient in their ways, while others struggle to wonder why their child did not turn out to be everything they hoped. The controversial topic of whether the parent knows what is best for their child hangs over the reader’s head in Amy Chua’s article.

How a parent raises their child can affect the child later on in life. There are four parenting styles: authoritarian, authoritative, permissive, and neglectful (uninvolved). Each of these parenting styles can affect a child in some way. Some parenting styles have more negative outcomes than others. Some have both positive and negative outcomes.

Parenting: from dressing, teaching, disciplining, to simply supporting a child, there are technically no right or wrong ways to provide care. Although there may not be a correct way, most, if not all, parents have been or will be criticized at some point because of their decisions in parenting. So what exactly makes someone good at parenting? A mother, father, or caregiver who exercises good parenting fosters a healthy relationship with the child, demonstrates and reciprocates respect, and reinforces responsibility.

As many people know being a parent is one of the biggest responsibilities they will have in their entire lifetime. It requires much time, especially during a child's adolescence. Being a good parent is loving your child for one part, and other qualities that must be taken up to be a good parent are: supporting them financially and emotionally, not putting them down, letting them have some independence, and

There are many different parenting styles all over the world. Some parents may stay at home, while some work; some may be strict and have their children on an all organic diet and limited T.V time, while others might buy fast food every other night and let their kids run wild with imagination. Many mothers and fathers have different parenting styles and goals; but where do these underlying thoughts and actions come from? Sigmund Freud, a psychologist whose main work was dealing with psychoanalysis from the late 1800s to the early 1900s, would say it was from somewhere deep within the unconsciousness of these moms and dads. According to Freud (1915) the unconscious mind is the primary source of human behavior like an iceberg the most important part of your mind is the part you cannot see (Para 3). Meaning the unconscious part of your mind is the most important because it’s almost as if you do things unwillingly without knowing. The underlining emotions are the most important. I believe, parenting styles, actions, and goals, are all the unconscious mind of parents wanting to be better than their own mother and father; or imitating the same habits they have grew up with throughout their childhood.

When it comes to raising a kid every parent wants to be the best parent. Many of them wonder if they are giving the right environment for the physical and behavioral growth of their kids. The reality is; most parents do not remain the best parents or at least good parents.

In my recent psychology class we studied parenting styles. They are grouped into three different categories; authoritarian, authoritative, and overly permissive. This gave me insight into a couple of different programs I’ve watched on television.Authoritarian parents are parents that set strict rules to keep order and they usually do this without much expression of warmth and affection. “They demand obedience to authority.” (Coon & Mitterer, 2010, p. 91) When the child questions the parent, "Because I said so," is often the response. Parents tend to focus on bad behavior, and not positive behavior, and children are scolded or punished for not after the rules. Authoritative parents help their children learn to be responsible for

What makes a good parent? People have always tired to find out the answer, because what makes a good parent makes a good family and what makes a good family makes a good society and finally what makes a good society makes the world we live in a good one. Actually it is family where all the social ills come from. It is family that predetermines what kind of society we will have tomorrow, because the society of tomorrow will be born to and moulded in the family of today. So if we want to find out what makes a good parent and try to change the society we'll be living in we've got to start right now. So let's start.

In the early stages of a child’s character development, the family is the first social group that the child has. The relationship that is fostered between the family and the child is important, because it is the role of the family that influences the child’s behavior. Although the child may be influenced by the father and siblings, these relationships are looked to second. The child realizes early that the family belongs to him. This leads to jealousy towards other siblings because he may strive to be significant, and establish a position of superiority. Once the child comes to trust the family, it no longer feels threatened. By fostering a good relationship with the family, the child develops trust which leads to the child developing

Being a parent comes with a lot of responsibility and difficult decision making. You always have your child's best interest at heart, but sometimes your child may disagree with the rules you have set down. That is why, I believe, the perfect parenting style is democratic. You can compromise with your child, but still have basic rules you want them to follow, without them feeling targeted or that you are being unfair. When i become a parent, I want to make sure my children have guidelines. I want them to be able to make their own mistakes and learn from them. Their health, their type of entertainment and the toys they play with are three major, broad categories that I would like to have a say in, along with their input of course.

The topic I have chosen for my paper is that of relationship between parents and children. Some of the points that I will be discussing are child abuse, child neglect and how it can affect a child and the relationship with the parents.

When children see their parents involved in a meaningful way, they may benefit from the confidence and self-esteem that comes with feeling secure in their parents’ commitment to their well-being (Col. State).
