The first humans were hunter-gatherers. The men hunted and the women organized the farming and gathering in an egalitarian social model of equality for all men and women. Approximately 12,000 years ago agriculture replaced the traditional hunter-gatherer routines for a more permanent and consistent lifestyle centered on agriculture. As a result class or rank based societies were formed. The dominant government and society in European was the feudal system where land was granted for service. After a thousand years the feudal system was replaced by capitalism an economic and political system. Over time the industrial revolution transformed capitalist nations from agriculture to industrial nations. Throughout history countries have wanted to control lands beyond their borders and a new practice named colonialism give Europeans full or partial political power over countries they occupied, or settled in the “Age of exploration.” The feudal system is often referred to as Europe Dark Ages or Middle Ages. During the feudal system small communities were formed near the lord and the manor. The king, the church, barons, and lords owned land. The kings in feudal times “Believed God gave them the "divine right" to rule”(Stutz & Warf 29). The king granted or rented the land to the baron for soldiers or taxes or shield money. The baron ruled a large area of land called fiefs that was divided among lords who were in charged of the land and served in the army. Lords and Barons swore
