The first set of verses I chose is Acts 13:9-11. “Then Saul, who was also called Paul, filled with the Holy Spirit, looked straight at Elymas and said, “You are a child of the devil and an enemy of everything that is right! You are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery. Will you never stop perverting the right ways of the Lord? Now the hand of the Lord is against you. You are going to be blind for a time, not even able to see the light of the sun.” In the very beginning the first thing I noticed was that it states, before the confrontation, that Paul was filled with the Holy Spirit. I feel like this proves that the Holy Spirit can talk to you and lead you in the direction of the Lord. The Holy spirit told him to go to Elymas and show him how horrid his actions had been and the consequence he will receive because of that.
Saul somewhat “goes off” on Elymas and tells him how he is a child of the enemy, which is true since his name means “sorcerer.” Sometimes Christians think that you should never give someone tough love. However, there are occasions where some tough love is needed and that is more beneficial than being “too nice.” He tells Elymas that he is an enemy of everything that is right which proves to be true since he tried to lead the whole procounsel astray from the Lord.
I can apply this verse to my life by being able to use it as a reference for when people claim that God does not lead in the path that you are meant to go. God will punish those who go against
In Paul, the Spirit, and the People of God, Gordon Fee outlines a theology of the Spirit in the Divine Trinity, the basis within Scripture for the experience of the Spirit, and the interaction of the two. Fee, a Pentecostal scholar, “redefines the terms of discussion about the Holy Spirit in a way that transcends today’s
In the beginning of saul 's life,he had many problems. Some of them he could fix and others he couldn’t.Saul tried to make best
This parable is very applicable to my daily life, as well as society. I can apply this parable to my life by knowing that I was a seed planted in the good soil. I need to remember to continue my course of action and beliefs, no matter how difficult it is. That way, I can live a life lead by the Lord, spread his message, and “bear fruit”.
Persevering trials bring purpose, and God’s love is evident in His chastening which should never be despised (Job 5:17; Hebrews 12:5).
Acts of the Apostles chronicles the rapid advancement of the Gospel by way of the gift of the Holy Spirit. “The Holy Spirit in the Acts of the Apostles: The Charismatic Community in Mission” takes into account the narratives succeeding Pentecost including Spirit Baptisms from Samaria to Ephesus (Acts
In order to be a survivor, one must be able to cope well with obstacles and not give up when life starts to get difficult. By examining Richard Wagamese’s book, Indian Horse, it is obvious that Saul is a survivor. Saul Indian Horse, the main character in the novel Indian Horse, proves what it takes to be a true survivor based on his personality traits, how he deals with conflicts and his sense of resiliency. Firstly, in the novel Indian Horse, Saul’s smart nature shows he is a survivor when he chooses to reveal himself as a boy that is void of feeling while at the residential school.
Statement # 1(From The Cradle, The Cross, and The Crown Chapter 8, Loc 10638 of 28382, 1st Paragraph) “There are several significant human agents, but there is one, and only one, major divine agent underlying the entire plot of the book of Acts: the Holy Spirit. For this reason, rather than identifying the book as presenting the “Acts of the Apostles,” it may be more accurate to say that at its heart are the “Acts of the Holy Spirit.” I believe that the book of Acts is a great depiction of how the Holy Spirit can and will move through dedicated people. Without the Holy Spirit, Paul and all the great men in the book of Acts are just great men.
Dr. McClister’s essay discusses the verse from Ephesians 1;13 and reasons about what the “sealing of the Holy Spirit” means by first refuting denominational interpretation of the Holy Spirit. During the 1950s and 60s arose an idea of the Holy Spirit’s involvement in human lives (71). The denominational view of the Holy Spirit had more than one interpretation concerning what the Holy Spirit does on an individual. Among these views was the “Spirit-aided” belief and the transferring of miraculous gifts from the Spirit (71). McClister argues that these ideas are a perversion to the text and points out that because of this perversion, the Lord’s church has feared to explore what the correct interpretation of the Spirit really means (71). The statement “you were sealed”, according to McClister , was expressed to mean authenticity (73). In Greek and Roman times documents were
It is also important to see their obedience Then the apostles returned to Jerusalem (acts 1:12) Jesus told them to return to Jerusalem and wait for the coming of the Holy Spirit, and that is exactly what they did. They heard what he had sad and responded to what Jesus told them to do, even though He was no longer physically present with them. This was major key in ushering in the power of the holy Spirit.
While this verse is about handling anger, the greater truth that it brings to light is that our thoughts and actions can be responsible for giving the devil a foothold. In this case, if we handle anger wrongly we give the devil a foothold. For our purposes, we want to use this verse to focus on the issue of footholds and what it says they mean in the life of a believer.
Another application for me is to remember Paul's chains because I can learn from each one of them. I should learn from his mistakes and try not to make them in my life. Those were just two applications from chapter 4. There are many more you can find. Lord, please bless the people who are reading this and that they can understand your word and apply it to their lives.
Paul’s question is to be asked of believers today, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” (Acts 19:2)
The genre of the book of Acts chapter 19:23-41 is written in the narrative form, and is set in a time when the people of Ephesus worshipped a goddess who they said fell from heaven. During this time period the apostle Paul began his travels preaching the gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus and upon making contact with some disciples he asked them if they had received the Holy Spirit since they believed. They answered him saying they did not know of the Holy Spirit. He also was concerned if they had been baptized in Jesus name, they answered no, but they had only received John’s baptism. Upon hearing this Paul explained to the people of Ephesus that John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance, but they should be baptized in the name of the one who came after John, Jesus Christ. Therefore when they heard this they were baptized in Jesus name, and after Paul laid his hands on them they were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in tongues and prophesy.
In relation to the verse’s message to humanity, the first six verses focus on keeping the faith and having faith that the Lord has not forgotten you in times of hardship and remember he will always provide for you just as he has done in the past. This
Their is much debate surrounding the use of the charismatic gifts in Acts. Many questions arise about how to use such gifts, and whether or not they can be used today in the first place. The debate regarding the continuation and the cessation of the spiritual gifts, the meaning of which we will clarify in a moment, is a relatively modern one. Although we read about the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost in Acts, and the gifts of the Holy Spirit in the early church of the New Testament, history is more or less silent on this issue. It was not until the early
