I have done many service opportunities this year. I have repaired bikes, sorted food, organized supplies, and helped victims of the flood. Though these experiences, I have learned how to serve Jesus through others.
I have served Jesus though repairing bikes for the poor. It helped me understand the importance of transportation in people's lives. Sometimes a person's only way of getting to vital destinations such as the doctor, the grocery store, school, their job, or home is by bike, because they do not have enough money to afford a car. By repairing their bikes, am helping them quickly get to any necessary destination.
I have also served Jesus though helping the Food Bank. The Food Bank plays a vital role in the community by distributing food to the poor. I helped sort their food to facilitate the distribution process. I learned of the real dependence the poor has of the Food Bank. By helping the Food Bank, I am helping feed the hungry.
I have worked at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore to serve Jesus. The Habitat for Humanity ReStore has discounted home supplies such as paint, pipes, and tubs. I helped them organized merchandise, sort paint, and clean up. I was helping the poor by allowing them easy access to discounted items for

I did however find that I was impacting the people's lives. I was improving the quality of their transportation. I was also indirectly helped feed them and provide shelter for them. If I was more actively involved in the community, I might have gained more from the experience, but I still think that I gained something from it. Being forced to do service actually increased the learning experience because I would never have done some of the things I did. I did feel a closeness to Jesus because He said that when you feed, shelter, or care for the homeless, you are doing these things for
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
This past Fall we separated and went to different organizations and helped with their needs. I went to Webster-Rock Hill Ministries who helps people in our own community with the simple necessities. They have a big office area where they help their clients and try to find them a job to support their families. We helped move food, clean floors, clean the kitchen, plant bushes, and organize the storage room. It was gratifying seeing how grateful the clients and volunteers were for our helping hand.
At church, in addition to my participation in the worship services, I volunteered at our church’s soup kitchen, medical camps and elementary school for underprivileged children. These experiences opened my eyes to the deprivation of love and care in the world and a dire need of God’s grace for people at large so they could receive forgiveness, healing and restoration in their lives.
I did my community service at Dr. Porter and Clark in Flat Rock during November 2016. They were doing their annual food drive for families that couldn’t afford thanksgiving in neighboring cities. The food drive needed help dividing up food for the families and organizing/making the drive route. I chosed this service because as someone who actively uses food banks on month to month basis, even week to week sometimes it's nice to give
As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie/princess
By serving others, I improve not only their lives, but also mine. My church often reaches out to the community and serves them according to their needs. Whether the members of our community need food, shelter, clothes, or school supplies, we are happy to help. I find these service projects satisfying because I get to see my impact I have on society. The look of joy and relief on a person’s face as they receive the the first meal they’ve had in days, or gotten the help they need for their children is priceless and completely unforgettable.
I have been a knight to those within my community that do not have what I have been blessed with. With the aid of my church I have been able to help the people within my county who do not have the clothes necessary for work, church, school, or the seasons weather. Through the Kings Clothesline at my church around 500 people were clothed just this year. My church has also given me the opportunity to feed the hungry in my community, which is made possible through a summer lunch program and something we call Saturday Sacks. Saturday Sacks is a program where members of my church gather together every Thursday during the school year to prepare sacks of food and snacks. These sacks are then distributed to the children enrolled in local county elementary
It gave me the chance to vanquish my fears while also realizing that it is God’s plan for me to help out my community. However, I am not surprised that there are still unanswered questions in my head such as: Why is there such a big hunger problem? Why is this problem not spoken about more often? Is there any other way I can help stop this problem? This service has made me more knowledgeable and aware of my community. In addition, this service project has made me take matters into my own hands. Currently, every time my family goes grocery shopping I make sure they get at least five canned goods for donating. As more of my friends volunteer and more donations come in I think we can end this fight for hunger in southern Louisiana. In addition, I believe that we should all take a step back and be thankful for all that we have because some people don’t have such luxuries. God is omnipresent, He would not want to see His children starving. Finally, I see it as a mission that we volunteers get more people involved to volunteer for the greater
Over the years, I have had the great pleasure of taking part in several things that have turned out to be incredible learning experiences. One of the things that I have begun to do in recent years is going on a mission trip with the youth group at my church every year. Starting in the summer of 2013, we have taken about a week out of our summer each year to assist in the clean-up of natural disasters for less fortunate families. Surprisingly, these unpleasant, hot, humid, and smelly days have been some of the most memorable experiences that I have ever taken part in and have taught me an important social lesson. I learned, and relearn every summer, the importance of giving to those who are less fortunate than myself in any way that I am able to.
Through my church, I was given the opportunity to participate in a mission trip program called World Changers. This trip allowed me to travel to Birmingham, Alabama where we joined other churches from surrounding states to complete a service project. Once we arrived there, we were put into groups with people who were not from our church. This led us to the opportunity of meeting new people and stepping out of our comfort zone. During this service project, we were assigned a member of the community to help. My service group helped our member of the community by repainting his whole house, as well as yard work for him. Everyday for a week, we worked from 6 in the morning until 4 in the afternoon on his house. The work itself may not have seemed
“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Mark 10: 45.
One thing I think of often is how much I loved every second of my mission. And If I could preach and share the gospel in a similar way, shape or form for the rest of my life I would. It’s one thing that brings me constantly and continues joy. It changed my life and will continue to change and shape my life forever. In reflecting on these past two weeks I have come to realize that I am doing exactly what I hope and pray for on a daily basis. I get to smile and talk to people. To be honest and provide service and help others. Though it may be part of my job and tedious at time, I absolutely love
Acts of service defines who I am, a servant unto the Lord. The earliest I can recall recognizing that I was here on earth to serve occurred when at the age of 10, I began caring for a newborn baby. That baby became my responsibility for the next 10 years of my life. From getting up at night to tend the baby to giving the baby soapy water enema’s for the bowels, I provided the care for this child. This I did willingly, never resentfully. Nor did I realize that if I hadn’t done what I naturally do, this child may have died. I am so glad God gave me a servant’s heart because in the years after that, life was challenged and I was treated as though my name was Cinderella. Nonetheless, God has helped me rise above it all.
I gained knowledge on volunteerism through Stop Hunger Now and seeing that it is not difficult in the slightest to make a difference in other people's lives. Through being in a room with strangers for a week, I gained the confidence to speak up for what I believe in. Most importantly, my faith was strengthened by being exposed to others with the same beliefs as me. Triennium may have been my first ministry trip, but a handful have happened in the years since then and numerous more are already
My faith calls me to share myself in service as well. If I want to emulate Jesus as best as I can, then what better way to follow him than serving God’s children with sincerity and integrity? There is no better way to a meaningful life. I have put this call into action by
