With France participating in those 2 wars, they became bankrupt. France had to somehow make money so they decided to start heavily taxing the 3rd estate and made them work harder for their own food and wealth.

The French Revolution is known to be one of the major events in the world history. The revolution was led by some reformers in the government who demanded some changes in the political system. The purpose of the revolution was to eliminate the power of king and the rich people who owned most of the lands, and to have a government that is elected by the citizens. Although the revolution started as a movement for government reforms, but it turned out so violent that led to the execution of the royal family. Before the Revolution, France had been involved in many expensive wars, especially the American War of Independence, causing financial difficulties and debts which were increased through the expensive upkeep of the Royal Family and their courts. At this time the Age of Enlightenment was occurring and new ideas, challenging the Ancien Regime and the Absolute right to rule, were emerging. Not only were the royal coffers exhausted, but two decades of poor cereal harvests, drought, cattle disease and skyrocketing bread prices had kindled unrest among peasants and the urban poor. The high economic gap and social inequality led to reforms such as the drafting of the Declaration of Rights for Men and the Tennis Court of Oath. One of the main factors that led to the French Revolution is the economic gaps between the rich and the poor.

The monarchs had a lot of power and could do whatever they wanted. This has caused monarchs to do things that had negative effects on the people. There were much more causes to the French Revolution but in this response I will only be explaining 3 of those causes. The French Revolution was caused by many things and one of those things were the corrupt political & social system. The French Monarchs which are apart of the political system had unlimited power and declared them as the representation of god. According to document 7 the french monarchs which is apart of the first estate treated the 3rd estate like the dirt under there feet because they had no sympathy for the commoners.

Undoubtedly, a cause of the French Revolution was due to political conflict; the monarchy and the nobility had a dispute over a tax reform which eventually caused bankruptcy and poverty for the masses. Plus, the French went through an economic hardship. One of these events was the Agrarian Crisis. Granted, France at the time had an ineffective ruler who was King Louis XVI, but he eventually was beheaded. Therefore, these are the causes of the French Revolution.

The 3 main causes if the French revolution are social classes , Enlightenment Ideas, and a financial crisis in France. Social classes and Enlightenment Ideas caused the French Revolution because it was the 1st and 2nd estate controlling everything. They owned all the land and put it on the 3rd estate like taxes. Enlightenment Ideas helped cause the French Revolution because the 3rd estate got ideas from England and America revolting against their leaders in government and making a new government. These 3 causes gave the people of France ideas to have basic human rights.

King Louis XVIII agreed to the creation of a constitution and “promised a constitutional monarchy, with a bicameral parliament, religious toleration, and constitutional rights for all citizens.” However, the parliament was composed of extremely right wing royalists and was dismissed in 1816 due to disagreements. Louis XVIII later died in 1824, but he spent the rest of his time at the throne trying to heal the wounds of the Revolution.

The French Revolution was caused by many factors; some were significant and played a large role while others were of minor consequence. France was one of the richest and most powerful nations even though they were facing some economic difficulties. The French Revolution was a pivotal period in the history of French, European and Western civilization. During this period of time there was the formation of republicanism which replaced the absolute monarchy in France.
