Over the years the amount of animals killed has tragically increased due to the mass production consequently made within the fur trade. Animals have been treated as commodities and have been held captive, risking their physical and mental well-being. Not only have the animal’s abuse chains affected the life of those victimized, but also harm those who wear such products and the environment. Because millions of animals are being held captive and brutally killed annually for their fur, animals are being physically and mentally harmed. Therefore, laws should be made to minimize the fur production and guarantee the safety of these animals. The fur trade is a worldwide industry dealing in the acquisition and sale of animal fur. The selling of fur started in the Midwest during the modern days when mammalian furs were most wanted. Mammals such as polar bears, bears, mink, seals and foxes became frequently hunted for their warm and soft fur used for protection during the cold weather. Over time the human population has increased, making it believe that the fur trade can contribute to the control of the animal population and reduce the risk of widespread diseases. Having china as its biggest exporter made the production of animal fur harder to control throughout the years and has not stopped due to the high purchases within the fashion industry. Little do they know that millions of animals are being held captive, waiting to be skinned alive any minute just to be
In every laboratory, any new product or ingredient is usually tested on animals like rats, guinea pigs, dogs, or rabbits. The questionable substance according to some scientists may apply to a small area of the animal’s skin to determine primary irritation. However, we should also know that this is already too much for the animals. We may need them for food and research but we should also care for their welfare. Animals should be treated humanely, even though most people are unlikely to give up eating meat or wearing goods made from leather and wool. We, humans are given the capability to think superior than any other living creatures, that’s why we have the power to think another way to stop these exploitations. For example in fashion, designers should stop using fur and use fibers instead to make fake fur. The best part is, it can look almost identical to real
Murder and abuse cases never fail to startle society. Moral codes are flouted with unmatched rigorousness by these indubitable egregious crimes. Sufferers in these cases are often people. Nonetheless, these callous obscenities should not be seen as less important when animals are the victims. Animals undergo horrendous abuse due to barbaric individuals, greed, and unnecessary lab testing.
2. THESIS/PURPOSE: Today we will explain the significance, and inherency due to animal cruelty, as well as several solutions which can help to prevent cases of animal abuse.
The Canadian fur trade played a key role in the development of Canada as a country in many ways, largely because of the growing need for furs by women overseas. The fur trade acted as the early foundation of the Canadian economy. The trade increased international trade and consequence acted as a driver of extending the exploration of the vast Canadian wilderness - much further than would otherwise have occurred. Concurrently, one of the more important outcomes of the fur trade was that it acted as the catalyst increasing the relationship between the European and First Nations People.
Big question - The fur trading ended when the prices went up and Many Native communities were plunged into long-term poverty and consequently lost much of the political influence they once had. Why did they stop fur trading? - Fur trading stopped because of the collapse in the prices company. This happened because of the high poverty and consequently which made them lose most of the political influence they once had. How did fur trading end?
However, as a result of a prolonged trapping and killing of the animals, they became nearly extinct. The decline in the population of the fur-bearing animals and the high demand for fur lead some of the Cree to relocate to new areas to trap and hunt. The fur trade became such an important aspect of the Cree’s lives that they became dependant on it. The native people relied upon the trading posts for firearms and ammunition to hunt for their own food and would also buy European food with the income they made. Because they were devoting most of their time hunting for the fur trade, they stopped hunting for their own food as they did in the past. Hunters were forced to forego parts of their yearly cycle traditions. Aside from the extinction
Bowsfeild, (2003) explains that Robert Semple who was born February 6th, 1777, and was the Hudson Bay Company’s, territorial Governor. He also states that historians claim Semple to be an extremely hostile, vain, and failed to appreciate the lengths to which the Northwest Company would go in order to destroy the Red River Settlement. At first Semple respected Robertson’s superior knowledge of the country, but he eventually decided to assert his own leadership. Robertson hoped to blockade the rivers and prevent the Métis from supplying pemmican to the Northwest Company bridges travelling west. Semple was more concerned with provisions for the settlement than with the blockade.
The fur trading business in British Columbia was a struggle for power between the fur traders and the first nations. Each side wanted to have bargaining power over the other in the tense situation. However, it is clear that the fur traders held the upper hand in British Columbia in several different matters. First of all, the fur traders held power of the first nations material culture, the natives began to rely on the good fur traders were giving them. Secondly, the fur traders have a massive advantage militarily over the first nations, allowing the fur traders to subjugate the first nations. Lastly, the fur traders had control over Native tribes allowing them greater access to information. It is quite clear that the first nations desired European goods, as they would consistently make concessions to European fur traders.
The Fur trade flourished in the beginning of the 1600’s and prospered until the mid-1800. Some of the most valuable items in the fur trade consisted of hats and pelts made from beaver. But what caused the fall of the fur trade and why are furs and pelts no longer viewed as valuable as they were hundreds of years ago. The act of trapping and skinning the fur from wild game is a lost art form which still thrives in remote areas but not in most places like it did over 200 years ago. If the fur trade was never introduced to North America and the people who inhabited it, then the U.S. and Canada would not be the countries they are today, and would not have developed the trading posts that existed along the entire Mississippi river, which allowed for new arriving Europeans to colonize.
Throughout the 18th and 19th centuries, the fur trade and fur trading industry was at its height. There were many fur trade companies in most civilized regions of North America. One major compnents of the fur trade was the hunters or trappers, which many of were Native Americans. Since Europeans came to America, there had been constant interactions with Native Americans, both peaceful and violent. Native Americans, Europeans and American settlers could benefit from one another, leading to an extensive style of interactions of any kind. These topics are thoroughly discussed in Michael Punke’s, The Revenant, and Shirley Christian’s, Before Lewis and Clark. In both novels, settlers endure hardships with Native-Americans, and in some instances agreements
Over the centuries, animals have suffered from cruelty from humans. In the United States, animals are beaten, neglected, or forced to struggle for survival. Animals have been inflicted with pain from humans for reasons other than self-defense. They have been slaughtered for their food and fur for personal gain in profit. In a majority of cases they have even been abused for someone’s own personal amusement or out of rage filled impulses. In some cases animals are found and rescued. They are given the second chance in life to experience what life should be like compared to what they once had.
Trading furs had become so profitable that farmers and fishermen would up and quit their jobs to make voyages over to America just to trap and trade furs. Many of these Europeans made these voyages even before some of the great explorers such as Cartier, Giovanni Caboto (John Cabot), Henry Hudson, Giovanni da Verrazzano, and even Christopher Columbus made their famous voyages (Carlos 3). Many Europeans docked their ships at Tadoussac near the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Saguenay Rivers and traded with the native Indians. Although there was lots of commerce in North America the Europeans never had any settlements, they simply traded with the native population and went back to Europe. This all changed according to Ann Carlos when Samuel
Animals are an important and valued part of many families and cultures. In many households, animals are considered members of the family, receive Christmas and birthday presents, and are cared for just as a human child would be. Opposition to animal cruelty has even become a sort of universal value in American culture(Kordzek 604). But animals are uniquely vulnerable to abuse, and despite this they still do not receive much needed protection from the law. The penalties for animal cruelty are not frequently severe enough to even deter one from harming an animal. This is dangerous not only for animals, but for human beings too. Animal cruelty and domestic violence have been proven to correlate in countless ways, and recognizing animal cruelty as a serious criminal offense and a form of domestic violence would serve to protect both animals and human beings from needless acts of violence. Instituting stiffer criminal penalties for animal cruelty and increasing the protective measures for victims of abuse is necessary to further the protection of both animals and human beings.
Each year, the most extreme cases of animal abuse receive media attention. Yet, the animal cruelty problem is more widespread than is reported in the media. Animal abuse and neglect is a nationwide issue, affecting thousands of animals nationwide. Cruelty to animals is defined as the infliction of physical pain, suffering or death on an animal, beyond what is necessary. There is a need to stop abusers from acting in such a horrific manner–preventing the neglect and suffering of the animals. What causes animal abusers to act in such a cruel way towards animals? How are cases of animal abuse being managed, and how should cases be handled? Finally, does the status of animals in society contribute to the rate of their abuse?
