The Future
Thinking about the future is very stressful. As a junior, I am nearing the end of my high school career and now being urged to think about what I want to do with the rest of my life. All the time I am being asked, “where do you want to go to college?”, “what do you want to major in?”, or “what do you want to be when you grow up?”. If you are anything like me, you like to have a well thought out plan for your life. My plan so far is to work as hard as I can in high school to achieve all A’s and a high GPA, get into a great college, and study to become a surgeon. At the moment I am not completely sure how I’m going to acquire these goals, but I am going to do my very best. In sophomore year of high school, we took our first practice

I was a little late to the game regarding advanced classes such as honors and AP. Being the oldest child, my parents knew nothing about advanced classes in middle school so I missed the opportunity to grab that advantage when I got into high school unfortunately. Although, between freshman and sophomore year, my math teacher realized that his class was a little too easy for me and suggested that I test out of 10th grade math, geometry. I took his advice and over the summer I completed the class, passed my exams, and was able to jump ahead to 11th grade math, Algebra 2, where all of the other advanced students were. I would have loved to be in advanced science because now I am a year behind the other students. But in order to be where I want to be I have to take multiple science classes instead of the other electives I was interested in such as art. Because of my lateness to the advanced classes game I had to wait until this year to take an AP class to help me attain to where I want to be in college. Right now, I was only able to obtain AP Biology which I am delighted about since it points in the direction of my dream career. The other class I was going to take was AP Economics, but it was dropped because of the lack of students who signed up. Next year I plan to take all of the AP classes I can fit into my schedule that will sturdily set me up for
Throughout high school, I have challenged myself both in the classroom and out in my community. By taking the honors classes, while participating in as many extracurricular activities as I can, I have learned the importance of balance and commitment. My school offered many dual-enrollment courses with conjunction to the local community college as well as Seton Hall University. These classes prepared me for the rigorous workload of college classes, while giving me the opportunity to earn college credits as a high school student. In addition to the dual-enrollment program, I have taken several AP classes that too transfer to college credits. I always challenged myself to take the upper-level courses because I want to be as prepared as I possibly
Throughout my high school career, I have always hustled myself to take these high course level classes. As a freshman I took Honors and Accelerated classes, and by my senior year I was in all AP classes, except for P.E. When I tell
The past few years since I have began High School I have realized how important school really is for my future. My freshman year was the year I slacked because I really just had no care but as an 11th grader and an incoming 12th grader for the 2018-2019 school year, I have realized it was a very big mistake because it is now affecting my GPA which I know could be higher. I am hoping that by taking this class it could increase my GPA although by the time I will be taking this class my college applications will have already been submitted. Taking an AP course will be the biggest step I have taken in my high school career. I may not have been ready for this step up in my education during the 2017-2018 school year but I believe I am fully prepared
Doing something half-heartedly has never been an option of mine. I have never taken a regular level class when there was the option to enroll in an honors level. From elementary school on, I have made it a point to take the most advanced courses available, whether it be Advanced Placement or honors. Over the years, I have excelled specifically in the math and writing
At Ardrey Kell High School, students are often confused about whether or not to take an AP class. One might see your GPAs and feel that it is not high enough to get into that dream college. One might just want earn college credits early so one can save money when college rolls around. One might also take these classes simply to learn more about subjects about which he or she are passionate. No matter the reason for taking these classes, they require a momentous commitment to work hard and an extreme amount of effort in order to pass. Students can cope with these requirements by managing time efficiently and becoming organized, which will help them achieve a higher assignment completion rate and score higher on tests and quizzes.
I have been enrolled in every english, math, history, and science class that is honors or preparatory advanced placement courses with the exception of history, which currently for me is an advanced placement level course which in other words is a college level class. These
In five years, I see myself in college, working hard as ever to get to my goal. I see myself better. I believe using the opportunity that early college gives me, I can become who I want to be. I want to be a person who benefits our community, that benefits our children. I want to help those in need. I want to save lives. I want to be someone who made a difference. Not someone who lingered in the shadows, not someone who is afraid of their fears, someone who worked hard to get to where he is and will not stop till he is done. Early College gives me the opportunity to work harder and get farther. My goal is to become a doctor and to have some experience in technology. I want to be a doctor who can help others, no matter their condition. I want
I began to understand my need for advanced coursework while still in high school. As I completed those first assignments in courses like W131 something profound began to happen to me, I started making meaningful intellectual discoveries. Although not science related, writing those exploratory essays allowed me to discover my voice, and with my voice, I was able to reveal my abilities and ambitions, not just to others but also, most importantly to myself. I might have completed that self-discovery with any general writing and science courses however, the recognition as a student in an Honors program meant prospective schools understood that I was one of the best students in my school. Fast forward, a couple of years and the revelation of needing
I took Honors Chemistry and Honors Physics in High School and received As in both (they were quite rigorous for Honors courses, and they used college level programs for homework- OWLs and Mastering Physics). However, I am sure that everyone at SEAS took AP Chemistry and AP Physics in high school and is overwhelmingly accomplished in these areas, and I am worried that I would be behind everyone because I didn't take AP and that I would begin to flounder in the classes, and I do not want my GPA to suffer greatly as a result.
Have you ever wondered what kind of thing you would like to accomplish in the future? What are you going to do? It’s like thinking about what you want to do, be or like what should you do. Well, here is my thoughts about what I what to do in the future. In the future, I would like to get into one of the top colleges to pursue my career in the medical field because I want to save people's lives and just have a good career in my life. To achieve this goal I will need to have high grades, have enough experience, and participate in many extracurricular activities.
My junior year, I decided to take my first Advanced Placement class, AP Chemistry. In the beginning, it required no effort since it only reviewed the material of the general chemistry class I had taken the previous year. Then, it started to become complicated. Through all of high school, I had drifted by and I never needed to study before. Suddenly, I needed to study for hours every night. The stress began to take a toll on me and my will to try diminished during the third quarter. During fourth quarter, the teacher gave us class time to review and ask him questions. On top of refreshing myself on what I learned first semester, I needed to learn all the material I had missed out on during the third quarter.
When I look backwards on my high school career, I honestly thought my grades as a freshman were a lot worse than they actually are. The lowest grade I received was a B- in Honors Geometry, and the majority of my grades were A's. I think I rather remember my negative attitude towards school and my lazy work ethic, which did not translate as heavily into my letter grades. Surprisingly enough, my most satisfying grades out of my entire grade book are the C's I received in AP United States History. At the end of my freshman year, I took a practice test to see if I could handle taking an advanced placement course my sophomore year. Lets just say that my test results were so bad that Mr. Bradley recommended that I not take the class and wait another year, however I was up for the challenge and wanted to take an initiative in my academics, so I took the class.
Well some of us at least will try to finish this early I think. What I am currently trying to achieve is to make it through my school days and forget about all of the drama that happened in all of those years I experienced. What I dream to become is being an engineer, game developer, or medical doctor. My mom and dad would usually say “Hey Bryan you should become a doctor” but they just want me to get a good paying job so I can provide for my life. It sometimes annoys me but I am used to it since they say it to me every day. I usually want to become a game developer but I haven’t thought too much about it. I might try being an engineer but I really don’t know if it is the right path for me. I might try to become a doctor but for me I feel too much pressure because I could mess something up that I shouldn’t have. If I do get one of the jobs. Then I would start preparing by reading books about it. In all honesty I really want to become a game developer because creating a game seems really fun and you could just mess around with it. A game developer seems like a job for me because I can do whatever I want and have other people helping me on it. I should thank my cousin
Students who have taken specific Advanced Placement course exams during their high school are able to receive credits for their college career as an advantage. Columbia University claims that students with high AP exam scores will likely surpass their peers through attending more involved and professional courses (“Advanced”).
A total of eleven years of my life will be spent furthering my educational requirements to fulfill my lifelong dream of becoming a trauma surgeon. I know some mornings I will wake up thinking the process and devotion to this goal might just be too much to bare, but I know my prayers will reassure me that it’s very possible if I put my mind to it. Honestly, it would be much smarter if I plan out my now before I even start thinking about my future life. Whatever I do now will hopefully lead to me accomplishing my goals. My plans for today and until I graduate are to keep my grades up and to put one hundred percent of
