Football, one of the biggest sports in the United States, makes a lot of money. Everyone in America watches football no matter if they are young, old, male or female. It brings people together and might even tear relationships apart. A lot of people watch football, but not everyone understands the rules. I am here to help people understand the game of football. I have grown up watching football with my family and friends, and it is my favorite thing to do. Through years of watching the game, I have learned how it works. It is not just throwing a ball or fans screaming after their favorite team gets a touchdown. There is a strategy that goes into it. First, let me guide you through the beginning of the game. American football is played on a field of grass 360 by 160 feet. You have the longer boundary lines that are the sidelines, and the shorter lines are the end lines. When a player runs down the field and makes a touchdown they are in the end zone. At each end of the field there is a goal line; they are 100 yards apart. Yard lines appear on the field every 5 yards. Two rows of short lines, known as inbounds lines or hash marks, run at 1-yard intervals perpendicular to the sidelines near the middle of the field. All plays start with the ball between the hash marks. At the back of each end zone are two goalposts (also called uprights) connected by the crossbar 10 feet from the ground.
