“The Girl with the dragon tattoo” is a novel written by Stieg Larsoon, a Swedish journalist, which was published in 2005 and became an international bestseller. A Swedish company production created the film version in 2009. For study purposes, to compare and to analyses the similarities and differences between the book and the movie, both were read and watched. The plot has Mikael Blomkvist a Journalist and part-owner of the magazine Millennium as a main character, that by request of Henrik Vanger, a CEO of an industrial Corporation, starts an investigation to solve what happened to Henrik’s grandniece, Harriet, that went missing years ago. Lisbeth Salander, a computer hacker, ended up helping Blomkvist to solve the mystery of Harriet’s disappearance. …show more content…
On the book the author takes a couple of paragraphs to introduce who is the character, taking time to describe the background, story and physically describing the character, while in the movie, throughout the story the viewer gets the understand of the story of each character and the movie being a visual tool, within the first scene that a character is presented, the viewer already knows how he is physically. For example, Lisbeth Slander, in the book it is much more detailed her characteristics as in “…, but she dyed her hair raven black. She looked as though she had just emerged from a week-long orgy with a gang of hard rockers” (page 38) or when Larsoon describe her lack of emotions. Lisbeth Salander in the book is much more mysterious than in the movie, and the author in different chapters of the book, gives a little more of information about who is Lisbeth. I think that in the book, Larsoon explored much more of the character, and while in the movie I felt a more aggressive and vindictive Lisbeth, in the book I interpreted a strong and smart woman, that acted the way she did more because of precaution to do not get hurt. In the book, I see more a message of how some women suffer with sexual violence, the author worked to show this side of Lisbeth. About the others characters, for example Harriet in the book is a natural brunet, while in the movie she is blonde. In a general analysis, the …show more content…
It is understandable that a book with almost 600 pages, has a lot of details, and I think the producers of “The girl with the dragon tattoo” movie did a great job when creating the movie based on the book. The movie is about two and a half hour long and to squeeze 600 detailed pages on it, they did a good production. Of course, that the movie is visual, so they don’t need to work with description, thing that Larsson does in the book. Larsoon, creates the atmosphere of mystery, describing how is the village, the bridge, the houses, how the family behaves. Lisbeth says in some part of the book that “everyone has secrets”, and what I feel it is that Larsson knew how to create the story to grab the reader in the mystery that involves the Vanger Family. The good thing of reading the book before watching the movie it is that with all the details of characters and the scenario, when watching the movie, the comparison is inevitable. For example, in the book Lisbeth and Mikael get to meet each other after Mikael decided that he needs an assistant and Frode tell about the work that Lisbeth was doing investigating Mikael, while in the movie, Lisbeth sends an email to Mikael with the meaning of the numbers that he found in the journal and he goes to her house. In the book, Larsoon takes pages and pages to describe and tells a story of some event or
Comparing the book to the movie you can clearly tell what certain things are different. For example, Sydelle Pulaski worked for Mr. Westing in the movie but only talked over the intercom. This not only caused a lot of drama but more depth to the plot. Also, Crow didn’t go to jail but they did talk about most of the consequences of her going to jail. This made a little bit more serious and emotional instead of just letting it go.
For instance, in the book Joppy knew Albright; Albright knew Todd Carter; Todd Carter knew Richard McGee as well as Matthew Terrell whereas in the movie every character denied knowing each other except Albright and Joppy. Another noticeable difference is that in the book Frank Green, Daphne’s brother ends up murdered and in the movie he lives and they both end up moving. The third noticeable difference is a character name change from the book to the movie; Matthew Teran in the book is Matthew Terrell in the movie and he ends up being murdered in the book whereas at the end of the movie he’s running for mayor. A fourth noticeable difference is the pier scene. In the book Albright and Easy meet at the Santa Monica pier and in the movie it is the Malibu pier. And the last most noticeable difference between the book and the movie is that Mouse knows Daphne Monet or shall we call her by her real name Ruby Hanks; however, in the movie the audience never finds that out. In the movie the only true thing you get to know about Daphne is that she is both black and white. Therefore, due to the many differences between the book and the movie it is confusing to the audience since it is almost like dealing with two different stories because of the plot inconsistencies.
The first major difference between the movie and the book is how quickly the movie reveals some of the flaws of the main character Socrates Fortlow. In fact the movie starts with Socrates appearing
For example, the reader is introduced to Helen as a baby. Meanwhile, in the motion picture the watcher is introduce to Helen when she’s six years old. This a major difference because the reader views how Helen started unlike the watcher of the movie. Another example, in the story Helen is pictured as a filthy mess, but in the film she is always in a nice set of clothes. This is a very important change because it shows how a person depicts Helen. Lastly, Annie is haunted by nightmares of her brother at the State Court house. In the book their is great deal of flashbacks in the story, but in the movie their is only one. This shows how Annie had to fight the voices in her head and the guilt of her “ killing” her brother. Even with these differences, it still tells the amazing story of Helen
One major difference between the text and the movie is the characters. One of the characters that seem to differ quite a bit between the movie and the book is Beowulf. Everyone think of him as the hero that killed the monsters they were terrified of and probably would never think of a “hero” as a liar. In the book it never says anything about him lying about killing Grendel’s mother as it shows in the movie; according to the text “struck it with all the strength he had left, caught her in the neck and cut it through, broke bones and all. Her body fell to the floor…”(521). Another character in Beowulf that differs is Grendel, in the movie Grendel seemed to be able to communicate with the other
Both share the same plot, and there are very little differences between the two. These are a few of the differences that I was able to notice between the book and the movie. There are several others throughout the story, but they are all just as minute and in the end they have no effect on the outcome of the story. Overall, I was very impressed with the movie and it was very true to the book. I have seen my share of movies that were adaptations from books that did not do the book justice, but this one is almost exactly like the book, so it was very
Both the novel and the film share indistinguishable qualities. For example,They both have the same places as the novel. There were the DX,Tasty Freeze, the lot,the church, and the characters houses.Since they had the same places the same things happened. They have the same places so,they have the same scenes. However, they seem identical, they have a lot of differences.
The first difference I notice is in the book women are very disrespected with not having very many rights, while in the movie women are in the Mead Hall with the men partying not much in the kitchen like the book portrayed, that’s the very first thing I see. Also now in the book Beowulf rips Grendle’s arm off for his death but in the movie Beowulf grapples Grendel, who has a chain wrapped around his arm, pulling it loose. As Grendel is trying to flee Heorot, Beowulf slams the door on his arm, severing it. Also in the book Grendle’s mother goes to avenge them but in the movie his mother visits Beowulf as he is asleep with all the other villagers and she visits him in his dreams and awakens to see she has killed many men of the Herot. Also in the book the mother’s lair is guarded in the movie it’s deserted. After slaying Grendel's mother, Beowulf brings Hrunting, Grendel's head and the hilt from the giant's sword back to Heorot in the book where in the movie she brings the head to
Structure of both, the movie and the book is complex to understand. Now, what happens with characters? Are they pretty similar from each version? An accurate answer would be: “Not entirely”. Some of these features can be because of some actions that are different in both versions. For instance, the scene when Carla Jean, Lewelis’ wife, meets Chigurh. In the movie, this is what they talk:
For instance, the book talks about how the greasers felt and how their feelings were, then in the movie, it didnt talk about it but it showed it. The way that they showed it was not as good as it was written. When reading we don't fall in love with the characters' appearance. We fall in love with their words, their thoughts, and their hearts. We fall in love with their soul. In movies we focus more on appearance and what's going on in the background, which then gets people distracted from what the character is feeling and their thoughts. On the other hand, you can see the actions of the characters in the movie, which might help you process the way they act, however with the book the author can use what he thinks and try to give people a general idea of everything. For an example in the book it talks about how Randy
There are many publishers in the world who decide to take their work and turn it into films. Although many viewers may think the film should be exactly like the book, they are not. In both novel and book there are going to be slight differences. The moral of both novel and book is the same; however, their narrators are different. The character may act a certain way as one are reading, then act another way as one watch the film.
The differences in Luhrmann's movie are very evident. The movie uses guns instead of swords. This differs from the book because it alters the fighting style and the way people are killed. For
When watching the film, the first difference the viewer can see between the book and the movie is how the characters are portrayed. A notable example would be Carlson. In the film,

Due to the text’s complexityz and the author’s peculiar writing style, it took me quite a while to get into the story, thus reducing my reading speed considerably. But, once I was one third into the book, I started to really enjoy it and, as the narrative became more and more complex, I became aware of how much the book and the movie differ.
