Since the 1929, the economy in the United States has not seen such annihilating downturns. As a result, a great deal of our population has lost their jobs and subsequently, their homes. The current foreclosure crisis is affecting too many of our families in this country. So now the focus is on finding ways to solve the growing epidemic of foreclosures. I propose that the government fund a non-profit organization, whose mission is to reduce the number of foreclosures among the American people. Although the initial funding would come from the government, as a non-profit, the agency would be able to obtain grants and hold fundraising events in support of their cause. Brick by Brick, Inc is a non-profit organization that would ensure all homeowners have mortgage insurance, provide workshops to educate potential homeowners and provide financial assistance.
Most of us who own homes have insurance for the property, but there is no insurance for making the most important thing to keep our roof over our heads and that is making the monthly mortgage payment. Everyone should be required to purchase mortgage insurance when he or she buys a home. Many times it is required. The premium would be included in the monthly payment. For instance, twenty percent of the payment would go toward the loan, and then ten percent of the total loan would be contributed to insurance. Then, if the mortgage holder loses income, the mortgage would be paid for one year or until the individual
The government's attempt to stem the tide of foreclosures and arrest the incredible fall in home prices have been, in a word, pathetic. One proposal suggested was for banks to offer low 4% mortgages -- a step in the right direction. But in extending support to buyers of homes, it completely ignores the problems of millions of families that already have mortgages. As a result, it does little to halt the surge in foreclosures. With more home owners likely to default this year, the situation is far from recovery in spite of a wall street surge since March of this year. The new rates, and lower monthly payments, would be especially helpful for homeowners with negative equity (they owe more on their mortgages than their homes are worth). Such underwater borrowers, prime candidates for
Multiple non-profit organizations have to rely on what’s called a grant. Foundations, corporations and government agencies help out with the fundraising efforts for the non-profit organization. Grants can be used for multiple purposes from supporting online fundraising that you created to crowd-funding. Grants can be from a few hundreds of dollars to millions of dollars. The amount depends on the source and the purpose of the grant. Receiving a grant is a different process than just receiving a donation from an individual. Non-profit organizations most of the time need to fill out a request and send out to what’s called a grantor. Non-profit organizations can help the organization grow, help the organization reduce risk and can come
Seeing other people reactions towards foreclosure helps me to develop a meaningful value of life and how to appreciate it everyday of my life. As I see what is going on around me I came up with three plans that can be executed to help all people who are dealing with foreclosure issues. This can become a major factor for the economy. One is called Own A Home , Financially Fit, and Bills To Kill. These are guaranteed plans that will help any individual that feels that they are not financially secured to become a homeowner. The Own A Home program is designed for aspiring homeowner in which they
There are many interesting proposals to help homeowners who are in the process of foreclosure. Just recently, before the election, Senator John McCain proposed to the Treasury to spend $300 billion to purchase troubled mortgages at face value and then the “Federal Housing Administration would issue a new, federally guaranteed 30-year fixed-rate loan, based on the property's present value, at a "manageable" interest rate” (McKinnon, 2008). Under McCain's plan, the government would pay for the loans and take the whole loss rather than putting the responsibility on the lenders. His plan carries large benefits for the homeowners, but it will decrease
The non-profit agency I selected for my essay is one that is very familiar to me. Between my father and my husband, I have spent a total of thirty-two years as a military dependent. During those years, I became very familiar with the United States Organization (USO) and what it offers military service members and their families. The USO will always be a reminder of wonderful memories for me. I distinctly recall the time my brothers and I napped on the sofa at the Guam airport during an extended layover on our long journey to Okinawa, and when I tasted jager schnitzel for the first time while visiting a friend in Berlin. In my mind, the USO will always be a safe haven and a place of comfort for military members and their families.
Foreclosure in America has been a rising and prominent problem recently, and has destroyed many Americans hopes and dreams. Over 2.3 million homes were foreclosed in 2008, and an estimated four million homes will be foreclosed by the end of this year. Despite the efforts of many banks and lending companies, over half of homes will foreclose that have received their help. I believe that we have only started in the right direction in solving the foreclosure crisis. Giving money and lowering mortgage rates will help, but I believe we should find out why Americans are in this situation in the first place. We are being too stereotypical when we think the only reason someone is foreclosing is because of irresponsible payments or buying a home
Since the Great Depression, our economy has not seen such devastating downturns. As a result, many of us have lost our jobs and subsequently, our homes. The current foreclosure crisis is affecting 1 out of every 5 Americans, Jonathan Lain (How to Solve the Foreclosure Crisis). So now the focus is on finding ways to solve the growing epidemic of foreclosures. The mortgage crisis we are experiencing in the United States today is already ranking as among the most serious economic events since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. Hardly a day goes by without a story in the newspaper or on the cable news stations reporting about the increase in the number of foreclosures across the United States. The effects of this crisis have spread across all financial markets, where in the end all of us are paying a price for this home mortgage crisis. When the housing market collapsed, so did the availability of credit which our economy depends upon. The home mortgage crisis, the financial crisis and overall economic crisis all need to address by the
The foreclosure crisis in America has impacted everyone- even those who don’t own homes. Our nation is currently struggling with high unemployment, a relatively illiquid credit market, and a deficit that raises serious concerns about the value of the US Dollar in the not too distant future. With interest rates already at historic lows and the government pursuing an unprecedented policy of quantitative monetary easing, options for government intervention are limited. While there is no simple solution to this problem, I think that we must look at the reasons the housing market went into crisis, and based on that develop a regulatory system that will allow us to avoid another situation like this in the future. If Americans believe

As the saying goes, history repeats itself. The Great Depression is a time in American history that will always be remembered as a time of hardship in Americans’ lives. The goal: to never have such great oppression exist in the United States again. With the way the economy is headed today, many people are skeptical as to whether history will really repeat itself and create a new Depression. One of the biggest problems in the country today is the foreclosure crisis. Many Americans are living outside of their means or have lost their jobs and are unable to make their mortgage payments. When people can’t make their mortgage payments, they will lose their home and their family will be out on the streets. There are definite changes that need to
Brooklyn, NY – December 30, 2009 Foreclosures continue to rise drastically across the United States due to the recession, and have effected, and continue to affect thousands of families and individuals every day. One aspect we must take into consideration is that most people are not informed of what foreclosure means, or the process, even those who are homeowners. I believe that one step to preventing foreclosure is to educate first-time homebuyers. In addition, first-time homebuyer programs should not only assist potential buyers with financially preparing them to buy a home, but to keep the home once
As a non-profit organization, our company has been profoundly doing well in helping raise money for families. Being with an organization which is committed to providing assistance to families in impoverished towns is very generous. Although, there is a concern I would like to address regarding using certain data we are using in our annual reports. The company uses pie charts to display data and prefers one type of pie chart over the other. I feel that we should use the pie chart which demonstrates the percentages.
The government has instituted a variety of programs to help alleviate the crisis. Various tax bills have been passed with an aim of encouraging people to buy houses and also to help the low income renters. In 2007 the government initiated a foreclosure prevention program dubbed FHA secure. The initiative is handled by the Federal Housing Administration and is an insurance program aimed at mortgages taken by those who have good credit
The current real estate crisis that America finds itself in is one of the greatest challenges America has ever faced. America’s troubles are further compounded by increasing unemployment of American citizens and environmental problems like global warming. Solving any one of these problems would be a Herculean task, yet they must each be addressed in order to protect American families from disaster. However, it is possible to find a solution to the problems of the real estate crisis that can also be used to improve the problems of the unemployment and environmental destruction. The first part of the solution involves the United States government purchasing the homes that have been foreclosed and using them to offer temporary housing to
