(Analysis of three messages from The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald) “Formal education will make you a living; self-education will make you a fortune” (Jim Rohn). F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in 1896 and died in 1940. He was probably one of America's greatest writers of all time. According to Francis, in November of 1917, he enlisted into the army and left Princeton for Camp Sheridan, near Montgomery, Ala. Later on he married the daughter of the Alabama Supreme Court Justice, Zelda Sayre. The Great Gatsby is about a man named Gatsby and throwing a bunch of parties so he can get Daisy’s attention. It soon pays of and they were gonna go live together, until an accident happened. There are three messages that can be seen in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald. The first message in The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald is that you can start as a nobody and end up as a somebody. For example, in the novel, the narrator states “No - Gatsby turned out alright at the end; wake of his dreams that temporarily closed out my interest in the abortive sorrows and short-winded elations of men” (pg 2). There are people that start out poor, but then end up rich or wealthy because they either got a really good job or made a fortune off of something they discover or simply by selling old family items.
