The Great Pyramid Of Giza

There are many great wonders in this world and the most commonly known one is the great pyramids. In the book The Devil in the White City, for the fair they were trying to decide what to build and one thing they wanted to was build a pyramid. There are many reasons why the great pyramids were built. The great pyramids were built while egypt was at its highest power. The great pyramids are the most extraordinary man built structure.

     According to Egyptian and Sumerian mythology, there was a battle between two families of gods for supremacy and control over the ancient lands and the pyramids of Giza were strategic strongholds for the gods. (vi) The different shafts and chambers of the great pyramids are said to point to various constellations that represent several Egyptian gods. (vii) It is also thought by some that the pyramid may have been a place where Egyptians made a pilgrimage to honor the gods or their pharaoh who, according to legend was a descendent of the gods. (viii)

The theme I have chosen is the Quest for immortality/ creation of legacy. Ancient Egyptians believed that there was a life after death; they focused much of their life preparing for the afterlife. The afterlife did not come easy to them, as they felt like they needed to live the best life possible otherwise they would not be accepted into the afterlife.

The exhibit consisted of 40 vitreograph prints from Littleton studios, of the 40, I would definitely have to say that "Giza" was the most interesting. The print was a promised gift of Carol Littleton Shay to the University. Harvey Littleton was the founder of the studio glass movement. Glass art is what Littleton was known for, his pieces consisted from ceramics to blown glass all the way to printing with glass, such as his work on "Giza". Littleton promoted the idea of glass as a course of study. The Pyramid of Giza is a generous antiquated structure on the planet and the most baffling (Ruggles, 2015). As per winning archeological hypothesis and there is truly no proof to affirm this thought the three pyramids on the Giza level are funerary structures of three kings of the fourth dynasty.

The "Seven Wonders of the Ancient World" refers to remarkable constructions during classical era. Through the ages, there have been numerous versions of the original list of the "Seven Wonders"; however, only one of these miraculous buildings has remained intact-the Great Pyramid of Giza in Egypt, which is also the oldest of the ancient wonders. On the west bank of the Nile River, there are three pyramid erected on a rocky plateau in Giza in the northern part of Egypt. There is much debate on how the Ancient Egyptian Pyramids in Giza were built. These extreme numbers force researchers to try and create hypotheses on how the Ancient Egyptians were able to construct such colossal monuments. Although we have an idea of where and how the Egyptians obtained the materials used for their creation, it is still unclear how they were able to take stone blocks that weighted several tons so high up, have such precision that not even a credit card could slip through the blocks, and was capable of pointing the pyramids

Since I was a small child my grandparents have told me stories of how they went to Egypt to dig and do archaeological work in the Valley of the Kings in search of lost pharaohs. In their stories they spoke of a land with vast deserts, massive stone pyramids, and beautiful cities. Their stories have inspired me to travel to Egypt to experience it for myself. On my journey I would like to go to see the beautiful Sphinx, the enormous Pyramids of Giza, and the vast Valley of the Kings.

A paragraph from Emmet John's The Pyramid Age describes these structures as such; “.. from the point of view of orthodox chronology, are the mastaba-tombs [pyramids] replaced. Similar to those used in Egypt.. they were a preferred type of funerary structure..” ( Emmet John 45). Mastaba's are flat roofed structures with sloping sides and are used as tombs within Ancient Egyptian. They were also the final resting place for most Egyptian people, and pyramids were used mainly for the wealthy or those that had some significance within the Egyptian culture. The pyramids of Giza were three pyramids which were the pyramid of Menkaure, the pyramid of Khafre and the Great Pyramid of Khufu. They were all three precisely aligned with the Constellation of Orion. But when people talk about the great pyramid of Giza they are usually referring to the Great Pyramid of Khufu. The base of that pyramid covered fifty-five thousand meters squared. This research is on the Ancient Egyptian Culture. Ancient Egypt was located in Northeastern Africa along the Nile River. Egypt was divided into Upper and Lower Egypt from 5000 to 2950 BC; the unification of Egypt was around 3000 BC. Ancient Egypt was around until about 50 BC. The Egyptians are known for many accomplishments; they include: their complex irrigation system, hieroglyphics, and the practice of medicine, the calendar, their art, and the construction of the pyramids. The pyramids were built as monuments to honor the dead. There are many mysteries concerning the construction of the pyramids. This research will be directed towards the Great Pyramids at Giza. The pyramids are a very interesting subject matter because they are gigantic structures that were constructed by only the minds of early architects and the hands of many workers. This research will cover the ideas of how these Great Pyramids were constructed.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is also recognized as the Pyramid of Khufu, Khufu's Pyramid and Pyramid of Cheops. It is the most significant and earliest structure in the world. This pyramid is the oldest of the three pyramids standing on the Giza Necropolis. It is also the largest of them all (Larry, 2000). This great pyramid is located on the northern edge of the Giza Plateau, which is 25 km outskirts, southwest of Cairo, Egypt. It is the only remaining standing monument of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World (Crystalink, 2011). It is said that the pyramid was built as the tomb for the Fourth Dynasty Egyptian King Khufu (known in Greek as Cheops).

The pyramids were built as a tomb for the pharaoh. Their belief was that the top point of the pyramid was the gate for the soul to travel to the afterlife and return to earth if chosen. These tombs were built which line up with certain stars and planets.

In the deserts of Egypt lie the colossal remains of an ancient civilization. These enormous works of human endeavor are the only member of the Seven Ancient Wonders of the World that time has passed down to us. These are, of course, the great pyramids of ancient Egypt. But these imposing structures were not built to impress civilization millennia down the road. The pyramids in fact had a purpose to the ancient Egyptians. While they seem very simple in nature, as they are simply four-sided pyramids with square bases, they had a meaning for those that had them built. Even by today’s standards, the pyramids of ancient Egypt were an impressive feat of engineering, due to their enormous size, both in building materials and finished product.

Throughout the thousands of years that the Great Pyramid has been standing, there have been many myths and legends that sprung up. Among them was a landing site for alien spacecraft, a spacecraft itself, or the means to predict the future. This report is going to explain the actual reason the Great Pyramid of Giza exists, how and why it has existed for so long, and the story of its construction.
