He constructed Ford Motor Company with John S. Gray. They sold its first car, a two-cylinder Model A in the United States. Ford used his methods for large scale manufacturing cars by moving assembling lines. The conveyer belt brought the invention not only for cars, but also brought the large scale manufacturing other technologies, clothes, and food. Willis Carrier invented the first air conditioner and sold in the United States. His invention spread to whole world which is must have item in summer for today a lot of people. Air conditioner was used in variety ways like factories, stores, and warehouses. In addition, the first diesel-powered ships are launched, both France and Russia for inland waters. Those inventions of technology have announced the beginning of another new world of convenience, and
For 300 years captured slaves in the United States had no hope for freedom. In the 1800s everything changed when the Underground Railroad had gone into effect as the system kept on growing and there were more than 100,000 slaves escaped from the South and gained their freedom. The journey for a slave to gain freedom was difficult and dangerous under the circumstances in the nineteenth century. Not even slave owners were looking for fugitive slaves, governments also imposed laws to restricted the rights of fugitive slave, causing their escape as an illegal movement. Runaway slaves faced lots of struggles through their escape, they not only encountered the risk of capture from slave owners, they also faced dangers from wild animals. However, there were safe houses called stations, in which would provide safe shelters and food for the needed runaway slaves. With the help from conductors, stations, and the system of Underground Railroad, fugitive slaves had the opportunities to seek freedom of rights someday.
The Brink's robbery of 1981 was an armed robbery committed on October 20, 1981, At 3:55 pm, Brink's guards Peter Paige and Joe Trombino emerged from the mall carrying bags of money, Buck was arrested in 1985. The last person to be arrested in connection with it was Willams (Shakur), the ringleader of the robbery, in 1986, Gilbert, Weems, and Clark were the first of the Brink's robbers to go to trial, On October 6, 1983, he sentenced each defendant to three consecutive twenty-five year-to-life sentences, making them eligible for parole in the year 2058, In September 2006, Clark was granted a new trial by a judge in a district court on grounds that she had no representation at trial. On January 3, 2008, the United States Court of Appeals for
Two years later, in 1941 in married the lovely Elizabeth Marsh Wise and we took care of my adopted sons. In 1949 my company and I announced that soon we would install air conditioners in the four most popular skyscrapers in New York. Finally, on October 7, 1950 in New York City, New York, the inevitable occurred I, Willis Haviland Carrier, the inventor of the first scientific air cooling system, died from a Heart Condition that I had been suffering from for quite some time.
On July 30, 1863 a man that would later change the world was born. He would revolutionize the American transportation system by creating one of the first automobiles, he would also create the world's first functioning assembly line. His name is Henry Ford. Ford would later go on to invent one of the first cars, the quadricycle as he called it. He would also go on to build one of the most recognized brands in America, Ford Motor Company.
The Western times were times of legends, cowboys, train robberies, and valiant acts of courage. There are many different things you could discuss when talking about the Western era and I wanted to discuss the train robberies by comparing a film and a piece of artwork. Although both The Great Train Robbery by Edwin S Porter and “Wilcox Train Robbery” by Andy Thomas convey how the west was a place where you did what you had to do to survive.Edwin S Porter emphasizes the train robbery and how people would go to any length to get the money they needed to survive, whereas Andy Thomas emphasizes on the violence that the robbers endued on the train.
Have you wondered about how the African American slaves got their freedom? In the video, The Underground Railroad, we see the struggles they experienced to get freedom. I feel like this video was very good and it made me realize how grateful I should be living in the 21st century and appreciate history because without history I wouldn’t know how people got their freedom, how people came into places, and in general how the world is what it is. The underground railroad is not a literal railroad, but a name for a 200-year long struggle of breaking free from slavery in America and gaining your basic human rights.
The invention of Willis Carrier is timeless and a major breakthrough in the engineering field. The air conditioner is applied almost in all engineering systems like computers, vehicles, factories and all machines where heat is involved. Conditioners are also applied in domestic homes and institutions like hotels and hospitals. It is, therefore, evident that this invention has created a revolution in the present working environment and so deserves great praise and honor to the hard work and commitment of Willis Carrier are to be emulated. Carrier was a mechanical engineer who was quick to identify a fault in the nature of work he did and his skill in engineering compelled him in the invention of a mechanism that would impact the world to the present age. He would soon come up with a set of designs and drawings that would be adopted by many other manufacturing companies and set up a ground for the establishment of his own enterprise. Willis’ life is a motivation to all engineers in terms of critical thinking and innovation and the ability to persist on a given course despite the challenges on the way. His knowledge and curiosity of engineering design is to be admired which is a wakeup call to many that may not have yet found a purpose for their study. His business and entrepreneurship skills should also be proof to us that we are meant to be all round and not just fixed minded to what revolves closest around us.
During The Great Train Robbery, justice in London is made a public affair and the punishment can be swayed by public opinion. Public executions in London are made a spectacle and people travel far just to see the hanging. The night before the execution of Emma Barnes, an axe murderess, people begin to gather in the streets in order to get a good view. Owners of rooming houses rent their rooms for a high price to “the better class of ladies and gents eager to get a room with a good view over the site for a ‘hanging party’”(66). Mrs. Molloy charges Pierce a large amount for his room because she knows how much the view from her rooms are worth. The morning that the hanging takes place, there are “more than fifteen thousand noisy, rough people,
With the onset of 20th century was the beginning of the modern dance. It was born in America due to a reason of an agitation against the two forms of dance which has been prevailing for a long time, vaudeville and ballet. Loie Fuller, Isadora Duncan, Ruth St. Denis and Ted Shawn were the forerunners of modern dance in America. Each had a different way of being unique and representing the art form of modern dance in his or her own way. Where Loie Fuller began experimenting with effects of gas lighting on silk costumes, Isadora Duncan discarded the slippers and adapted a new kind of dress form more of which will be discussed later and so on.
The son of a farmer from upstate New York is responsible for the invention of the world's first modern air conditioner. In 1902, one year after graduating with a master's degree in Electrical Engineering from Cornell University, Willis Haviland Carrier invented air conditioning as we know it today.
The novel The Underground Railroad by Colson Whitehead vividly describes the challenges of a fictitious slave named Cora as she escapes from her plantation in Georgia and the violent lifestyle she must abide by in the north to avoid being captured by the slave catchers or patrollers looking for her. Capture by any patroller or slave catcher would result in deadly torture upon her return to her old plantation, so Cora only is faced with a single choice: to avoid these predators at all costs. Throughout this action filled novel, the author Colson Whitehead uses descriptive and appealing details and environments to draw out emotion and enthrall his readers. Colson’s vivid description of the setting of the book helps to further develop the action filled plot, the lively characters, and greatly assists in creating suspense throughout the novel.
William Morrison of Des Moines, Iowa builds the first successful electric automobile in the United States.
Motion picture was developed in the 1890’s and exploded in popularity over the next 40 years. This was mainly due to it being a new form of audio and visual entertainment. Theater was popular because it was a marvel of modem technology, relatively cheap, and, above all, provided patrons with an escape from their difficult lives. It means the everyday men and women now had a place to go to relax and be entertained. This gave the working class a chance to escape their hardships and be treated like the wealthy. This was sure to make motion picture a success and to grow massively over coming years. Motion picture was invented in 1889 but it was the 1900’s before the first motion picture projectors started being installed in theaters and it was just 1915 when the Irwin theater in Bloomington was opened which was the first building built specifically for viewing motion picture. This differed from the early transitional “opera houses” that showed live dramatic performances as well as movies. (Boegen, 2003). In these times theaters were fashionable and impressive buildings and had a look of class. The Pantagraph described the exterior of the Irvin Theater as terra cotta with elaborate trimmings. (Boegen, 2003). It was a new and exciting in the era and brought a whole new concept of entertainment to the people. At this early stage of film it had a major impact on everybody. People got to see things in these

Photographers were intrigued with the idea of reproducing human movement and began experimenting with the concept of ‘moving pictures.’ The photographers’ goal was to find a way to capture movements, which inspired the invention of film. Success came in the 1890s, when the first short motion picture was created. This motion picture did not incorporate detail, a plot, story, or sound, however it was still a step forward. This small triumph catalyzed a three phase movie era. This era would not only change the film industry; but the dance industry as well.
