When I was a little girl, my father and I used to bond over long rides on country roads. During one of these trips, we ventured too far into unknown territory and became lost and boxed in by a narrow road with trees on one side and a fence on the other. By the time he managed to turn the car around, my dad saw that he must have pushed against the fence, which now hung back partly trampled. I remember telling him maybe we should just go; we where in the middle of nowhere, with nobody to have seen us. However, my father said we needed to go up to the house behind the fence and tell whoever lived there what had happened. I watched him explain what he'd done to the elderly man who answered the door, along with offering to fix the fence. Having just arrived in the country a year before, we did not have lots of money to spare, but my father had always been handy and clever. The man looked him in the eye for a second and then laughed, telling him the fence had been like that before we came around; that it was old and had been trampled on for years, but that no one had ever come by to apologize. …show more content…
These people are fair, and learn to give second chances, but they don't let anyone compromise their values. They are reliable in order to show those around them they respect their time, and they are diligent in their work because they know it represents them. A person with integrity will do the right thing when they're all alone, with no one else to say whether they did or not, for they do not go through life living by the whims of the world, but instead holding steadfast to their morals; content in the knowledge that in both easy and difficult times, they have been true to
It was late one day in June, and the sky was as blue and clear as sparkling wine. I sat back in my hammock reading the book Unbroken enjoying myself, and my uncle came up and asked me if I wanted to play poker with him, 5$ buy in. I jumped at the idea finished my page and went inside the house. Poker is a pretty big thing in my family and I’ve grown up playing and my uncle was one of the best, so spending time with him playing poker is always one of my favorite things to do. We proceed to set up the table, “Texas Holdem“ he says, Jacks to open”. Nothing weird, so we get the game going and the pots getting pretty big when all of the sudden he drops his cards. I stare the cards dead in the eye and see that i'm going to surpass him! He looks
When you parents tell you not to do something do you just do it anyways. Well I do and this time I think I learnt my lesson. It all started on a normal Saturday and we were gonna go on a hike, but none of us wanted to go somewhere so we just did it at home. We got our bags and water ready and busted for the trail. I thought it was gonna be a normal day and we would all have fun, but I got proved wrong. The trail itself is about three miles and a couple of extra steps, but with the surprise we only walked a mile of it.
Growing up with a father in the military, you move around a lot more than you would like to. I was born just east of St. Louis in a city called Shiloh in Illinois. When I was two years old my dad got the assignment to move to Hawaii. We spent seven great years in Hawaii, we had one of the greatest churches I have ever been to name New Hope. New Hope was a lot like Olivet's atmosphere, the people were always friendly and there always something to keep someone busy. I used to dance at church, I did hip-hop and interpretive dance, but you could never tell that from the way I look now.
People say that I’m too young to have problems in my life but they don’t know that even though I’m only sixteen years old, life forced me to become a mature person at a young age. I see things differently than most teenagers, which means that it’s harder for me to fit in. I’m not good at making friends, I’m very selective but I like to help people if they need me. My crucible started since I came to the United States when I was twelve, and after that my life has been so different.
*disclaimer: bare with me... the next 5 chapters are crap because i wrote them over a year ago...chapter 19 will be the start of some great shit*
So when I first got there I had the idea that it was a mock trial. It was not until we start and they started going over the history of the Texas Supreme Court and how they are able to travel thought the state did I realize that the court cases were real. Which, I am glad that they were real cases because that would have been boring if they were mock. So once I got that all right in my head I started to focus on the cases the first one was at some point difficult to follow to quote my friend who’s in high school “I don’t get why everybody is so mad about so ranch there is plenty of it at Walmart at leas that’s what that one dude said”. Now, my friends, he is the class clown, so I knew it was a joke but he did ask me “for real why did he keep
We stumbled upon a huge rock with steps leading up it; my dad helped me up it because I was afraid. I was shaking every step climbing it, further up it got even more frightening because of the edge. Being careful I got up it, but then realizing heading down was the worst part. My dad wanted to take a picture of us while my dad went back down. We all sat down and smiled as my father took the picture, then said if we could hear him, we could but quietly. Coming back down I was relieved, when we started moving again, we found an old creaking cabin, that echoes inside. We found a nice spot to take a break, and talked to each other while eating snacks that my dad brought. when we finished eating we traveled even closer to The General Sherman tree. Distracted, me and my family hadn't noticed we accidentally past it; I turned around and looked up at The General Sherman Tree; it was like a huge ginger root and the branches spread far out. I wondered how old it could be. This was a trip to be remembered but sadly had to end because it was getting late. We headed back down a path to the entrance where the bus would
After checking every photo taken during the investigation, the Deputy District Attorney, Michelle Trego asked the detectives to interview the witnesses again. “We want to make certain she pays for this crime,” Michelle said riding up in the elevator with Detective Wallace.
“On my honor, I will never betray my badge, my integrity, my character, or the public trust. I will always have the courage to hold myself and others accountable for our actions. I will always uphold the constitution, my community, and the agency I serve.” This is the oath average citizens take right before they become police officers. The oath shows us why police officers are here, they are here to protect us. The police, and other Government officials, should use police brutality because, if the same people who are supposed to be protecting us are hurting and killing us, then regular citizens are not going to respect laws and authority.
I could not believe what I had just said, I said it so hastily that I thought no one had heard me, but the judge clearly heard me say “The defense moves to indict Isabella Moores of first degree murder.” Everybody in the courtroom was speechless, “This so called witness was planning to murder her mother since she ran away from home, all because her mother was constantly abusing her and I have evidence to prove it!”
I quickly woke up to the sounds of loud sirens, I have no idea what is going on as I try to regaining my position. I'm noticing my hands are cuffed as I start to quickly realize what is going on. I start to frantically panic as my eyes finally adjust to my surroundings. I see that I'm clearly in the back of a cop car. I observed that the police officer is seeing that he is periodically looking in the rear view mirror then back to the road. I irrationally start to spit out nonsense before I solidly ask him in a shaky voice, “w-w-whats going on, why am I in here?” He looks back at me, giving out a quick chuckle, “oh you clearly know what you did darling, don't act innocent.” I then reply back, quickly giving him a confused stare “n-no
I cannot tell you how many times an adult has looked down on me because I am a child and they think they are wiser. Yet, many instances I am more knowledgeable on the subject than they are. In 1 Timothy 4:12, God commands His people, “Don’t let anyone think less of you because you are young. Be an example to all believers in what you say, in the way you live, in your love, your faith, and your purity.” A couple of Sunday’s ago, I attended Charge. Charge is a local outreach from Southeastern University in Lakeland, FL that brings the gospel to LKLD. I had an absolutely amazing experience. Most of those kids do not come from a wealthy or even stable home. Being able to interact and just love on those kids was truly a God moment. Some are not
Do I need to contact the Sheriff’s office directly and do they accept credit card payment, or cash or check only?
I remember it like it was yesterday. People thought just because, I was from Mexico, I wouldn't be able to succeed in life. People laughed at me just because of the way I spoke English.
I can remember as a little kid growing up in New York City what the highlight of my year was every year; it was getting to go down south for the summer. My grand parents had this huge oak tree in their front yard that I love to climb up. My grandmother used to always say to me “Stop doing that tree, one day you’re going to fall and break your arm.” Well, she was right. I fell out and broke my arm. She and my grandfather took me to the hospital, the doctor put a brace on my arm, grandpa
