A Hero’s Journey is one of the first stories introduced to the world through Homer’s epic tale, “The Odyssey”. Many movies, books and stories have used Homer’s tale as a sort of template such as, Bilbo Baggins in Lord Of The Rings, Dorothy Gale In The Wizard Of Oz, Harry Potter Harry Potter Franchise and many more . In the article ”A Hero With A Thousand Faces” By Joseph Campbell, It has all the stages and elements that a hero must go through like, The Call To Adventure, Refusal Of The Quest, and Entering The Unknown. The hero must also go through many test and obstacles that will make him/her stronger. When the hero goes home after finishing their quest, another journey could begin. In Star Wars, the hero is Luke Skywalker and his ordinary world is on his home planet Tatooine, In A Galaxy Far Far Away (Star Wars 1977). He is a young adult who wants a life of adventure and exploring the galaxy, but is stuck with aunt and uncle after his parents passed away. He then meets two droids, C-3PO and R2-D2, who become Allies/Helpers, This is another element of the journey. “Every hero needs a helper, much like every superhero” as said in the article. They tell Luke that the Rebels are being attack by the evil galactic empire controlled by the evil sith lord, Darth Vader and that they have a message for Ben Kenobi from the captured princess, Leia Organa. They go to Ben Kenobi (Whose real name is Obi-Wan Kenobi) and he tells Luke that his father was once a Jedi who was powerful with the force, but was killed by Darth Vader, A pupil of his before he turned to evil (Star Wars 1977). He tells Luke that he is the only hope for the galaxy, Obi-Wan could do it but he is too old and weak. This represents from the Hero’s Journey, The Meeting Of The Mentor and Call to adventure. He meets his mentor for the first time and is being called on an adventure. He receives his father's lightsaber but declines the opportunity to become a great jedi knight since he already promised his uncle he would stay with him for another year. He returns to Obi-Wan’s house and finally accepts the call and learns the ways of the force like his father once did. They go to Mos Eisley to find a pilot to take them to Alderaan, where the rebel base is located. They meet Chewbacca and Han Solo, captain of The Millennium Falcon. They will also become a helper/ally of Luke. They are on their flight to Alderaan but are being pulled in by a giant planet. It is not a planet, but the Death Star they soon realize. they hide on the ship and disguise themselves as stormtroopers. Luke advances to the next stage in the journey which is Entering The Unknown. They enter the Death Star to look for Leia while Obi-Wan searches for Darth Vader. Obi-Wan and Darth Vader have a lightsaber duel and Obi-Wan sacrifices himself so that Han, Luke and Leia can escape onto the ship. They leave to Alderaan and discuss a plan with the rebel alliance to destroy the Death Star.
They get into their space ships and start an attack on the death star. There are a lot of fatalities during the battle, he gets Supernatural Aid from Obi-Wan and he whispers to Luke, Use the Force (Star Wars 1977).
