Can the wrath of a mighty dragon be halted by one mere, small man? The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a story set in a fantastical world with the plot and theme beautifully woven into the text, which wonderfully adds layers to the characters. A summary of such a story is as magical to explore as the world is comes from. Bilbo is a Hobbit descended from Took & Baggins, families that are wealthy and respected in the Hobbit community. Gandalf is an old that has known Bilbo’s family for a very long time. He was very well known in the Hobbit community before he went away. Gandalf rather forcefully invites thirteen dwarves into Bilbo’s home. Of those thirteen, Thorin is their leader. He was the prince of the dwarves of Lonely Mountain, before Smaug took it for his home. He now leads a band of twelve other dwarves and Bilbo to reclaim the …show more content…

The other twelve dwarves, Dwalin, Balin, Kili, Fili, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Bifur, Bofur and Bombur, were chosen to help free their mountain home from Smaug, who is the antagonist of the story and contently lies sleeping in the Lonely Mountain upon a mountain of gold. The plot of The Hobbit is centered on Bilbo Baggins, who lived a cozy life in his house-hole in Bag End, in a fantastical world of wizards, dragons, elves, dwarves, giant spiders and goblins. Bilbo is a hobbit, a race of small people half the height of regular people, with hairy feet and a drinking passion. Bilbo lives in Bag End, near Hobbiton, contently, until one fine evening his cozy life is obliterated by the coming of an elderly wizard named Gandalf. He, rather forcefully, persuades Bilbo to set forth on a journey with thirteen little dwarves.
