The Hobbit Theme

The main protagonist of this story is Bilbo Baggins, who is known for being very sneaky and quiet, he is amongst a very small elite group of Hobbit’s who have a knack for adventure, with some convincing he agreed to join Thorin and his group of dwarves because 13 is an unlucky number, but little did they know that he would play such an important role in their quest.

In the Hobbit there are fourteen main characters as well as many other characters that help along the way. The characters are Gandalf the Wizard, Mr. Bilbo Baggins, Throrin Oakensheild, Dori, Nori, Ori, Oin, Gloin, Fili, Kili, Bombur, Bifur, Bofur, Dwalin, and Balin. Gandalf is a wizard that helps the dwarves in their various journeys. He knows more than he reveals to the dwarves and everyone else and he knows that the hobbit can help the dwarves in their quest. That hobbit is Mr. Bilbo Baggins.

By the time the next day had arrived Bilbo had forgotten all about Gandalf coming over. Bilbo’s doorbell rung and he assumed it was Gandalf but it wasn’t it was a dwarf by the name of Dwalin and soon after he arrived more dwarfs started arriving and finally so did Gandalf. Bilbo Baggins changes a lot in the novel The Hobbit. In the beginning he is a small peaceful Hobbit who lives in Hobbiton. He loves to keep things in order, and hates things that are disorganized. “Please be careful,” and “Please don’t trouble. I can manage” (Tolkein, 12). Then one day a wizard by the name of Gandalf comes and gives Bilbo the opportunity to go on an adventure. Bilbo turns his offer down, but the next day thirteen dwarves come to his house. The Hobbit, by J.R.R. Tolkien is about a hobbit called Bilbo Baggins. His father is a Baggins, who are considered respectable, and his mother is a Took, who often went on adventures. One day while in his hobbit hole on The Shire, an old friend of the family, Gandalf, comes by, offering him an adventure, which is declined. Shortly after, while having tea, Bilbo has thirteen dwarves unexpectedly come into his home along with the wizard Gandalf. Among them is Thorin Oakenshield who was a descendant of Thror, the King of the Mountain until it and all its gold was taken by Smaug the dragon. The next morning, mostly by being pressured by Gandalf and the Took side of him, Bilbo meets the others at a hotel,and joins their adventure to go to the dragon, as their burglar. They encounter many challenges along the road such as goblins, geographically dangerous paths, wolves, giant spiders, not having the help of a wizard the whole way, and always running low on provisions. While there were many external conflicts, Bilbo endured many personal conflicts such as desiring to be back in his hobbit hole in safety, and enjoying being a Took and adventurous. During the first encounter with the goblins, Bilbo is left alone and he encounters a creature named Gollum who continuously talked to himself. He finds Gollum’s ring which allows anyone who wears it to turn invisible. The ring helps him along the journey to escape from the goblin hole, and help the dwarves when they’re taken

First, Bilbo helped the dwarves escape from jail. Bilbo remains invisible , stealing food and trying to locate the dwarves. Thorin is in a different secret cell trying to think of a plan. Bilbo finds them and helps them escape the cells, and they use barrels to escape the place. so the elven king .

Throughout their march to the Lonely Mountains, the dwarves and hobbit were interrogated with spiders, flies, trolls, goblins, elves and Lake men. Through the first part of the campaign, the dwarves were tramping through a lightness, dungeon-like tunnels with bilbo being hoisted up by Dori. On spur of moment, Bilbo was grappled from behind and no one knew who or what it was. The hobbit fell and bowled over a boulder making him unconscious. Furthermore into the dim tunnels Bilbo has awaken, and was challenged to exchange riddles with a creature that threatened to devour him if he does not answer his riddles correctly. They then invite him on a quest that would change his life. During his quest he faces many evils and overcomes them all to become a hero.
