The third aspect that constructs an impression of Australian identity is voice. Voice is the authors' perspective of something that relates to an issue. It is also the viewpoint of the persona coming through to us. In this poem, Patterson is trying to tell us that the horse is being devalued because it is only getting sold for a pound. He says this twice in the first stanza to get the message out to the reader. At this point the poem then describes the qualities and nature of the horse which is supposed to make us feel that the horse should be worth more than just a pound. All this goes into the category of fairness. The author also describes the setting of the outback terrifically, by using different types of language conventions to make the
Through the use of poetic devices, the author has successfully encouraged the audience to explore their thoughts on Australian identity and to reflect on our nation’s history.
In Zora Neale Hurtson’s ethnography, Tell My Horse (1938), she uses her research and field notes from her year in the Caribbean islands to study how the political atmosphere and culture tie into the religion of Vodoun. Being one of the first in her field to study this religion, Hurston hoped to expand research upon the subtle nuances within the African diaspora and increase the people of Caribbean’s acceptance of their African identity. In doing so, Hurtson found her research discouraged the idea of Pancaribbeanism and diminished stereotypes of Vodoun being a religion based upon only evil possession and pagan sacrifice.
“I knew that what I was seeking to discover was a thing I'd always known. That all courage was a form of constancy. That it was always himself that the coward abandoned first. After this all other betrayals came easily.” (Cormac McCarthy, All the Pretty Horses) Humans are fallen, they have a tendency to be self centered and for one to take themselves out of their own body and see themselves, in the way they think and process images and words is
Every human to exists on earth experiences a moment in their life when they have felt immense despair, sorrow, or hopelessness. Whether it is from bereavement, depression, abuse, or trauma, the bitter feelings accompanied by those instances can quickly take over one’s life and suddenly, one becomes buried in dark emotions. At that moment, all the joy and happiness from previous instances in life diminishes, and suddenly the world seems dim. In the book, Indian Horse by Richard Wagamese, Saul Indian Horse experiences similar emotions since the time he was captured by the white Canadian men and taken to St. Jerome’s Residential School. From the appalling abuse as a child to the ruthless racism as a young adult, Saul’s majestic Ojibway life that
The book “Blood Red Horse” by K. M. Grant is a historic fiction novel set in England and Palestine during King Richard’s Crusades. I especially enjoyed this book because it colorfully retold the story of the Christians struggles to take back the city from the Muslims that were holding the city and disrespecting the sacred pieces of the Christian religion, such as the Jewish temples. The plot is very exciting and keeps the reader enthralled with every turn of the page because of the vivid details and exiting action the author masterfully tells.
Rocking Horse does a good job of introducing us to some flaws that us humans have. There are many stories that you can get messages from but in this case this story does hit of three certain things and only focus on them. One thing leads to another and kind of shows how this can hurt you or hurt others around you. Never did this child think he was being damaged in anyway. Three of the issues that will be discussed are; The ways parents can damage their own kids, the issues with dealing with money, and finally being lucky or unlucky
* Present one aspect of the Australian experience conveyed ( what is one aspect of the Australian experience in this poem?)
One day I and my cousin Shelby went to a farm in the summer that was a friend of her’s newly step-dad. We met the owner of the farm, she let us ride her horses. She knew Shelby couldn’t ride, but she didn’t know if I could. We went into the barn and let us picked out some horses. I rode a black horse named Midnight, Shelby chosen a brown horse named Chocolate. We got our horses, but Shelby had a little trouble of making the horse go. Once she got the hang of it, the horse got spooked, then Shelby got scared and couldn’t make Chocolate stop. So, race after her to her and luckily she didn't fall off. After that, we put the horses away, Shelby didn’t put the rake away, so I tripped and fell in the horse poop.
Once upon a time, there was a forest in which four best friends lived: a horse, a cow, a sheep, and a rabbit. They played with each other, lived together, and ate together. They bonded with each other well. The horse was powerful and intelligent and the cow was wise and helpful. The sheep was energetic and smart and the rabbit was small but active. The always helped each other if anybody had a dilemma.
You came into my life so many years ago. A friend and a confidante, being there to share my happiness and my sorrow. A pony that stood 13 and half hands high, a character that made me smile. Your hair shone so bright, white in colour with dapples dazzling to the human eye. Your mane and tail matched the brilliance of your coat, white as snow and soft to touch beneath my hand. Memories of rubbing my face against your neck, inhaling the aroma of your skin, enticing you to bend your head towards me, blowing softly through your nostrils, inviting me to stay and caress you with gentle flowing strokes across your body.
This story was definitely a thriller. In this book we meet a man named Zane. He was a present who did not live the best life. He was a poor man with zero income who had a habit of gambling. The book started with this man meeting a magician who offered him stones to bring him fortune, love or the knowledge of his death.
The Horse You're such a lovely creature, with big eyes that you feature! Many snacks, you like to eat. Carrots, apples, and bananas are a special treat.
I woke to the sound of my sister, Eos, making food in the kitchen. My cat, Lilac, was laying in the sun in the windowsill. “Morning Lilac.” I said softly. She looked towards at the sound of my voice and meowed. “What is it, girl?” I ask, getting up and walking to the window. Outside, I saw a large bird laying on the ground. The bird was pure white, but I noticed the tip of one wing was red. I went into the kitchen and told Eos. “It might be hurt. Let me get a first aid kit and I’ll meet you outside.” She told me. I hurried outside near the bird. I was afraid to get close in case it might attack me. I hope Eos hurries, I thought in my head. Just as I was about to go and get my sister, she came out,
D.H. lawrence was a writer during the early 1900’s. His writing was very controversial and sometimes his success was even overseen from the controversy. “Lawrence's writings are characterized by spontaneity, vividness, and intensity of feeling. Like many other modernist writers, he sharply criticized industrial society while trying to imagine a new, more authentic basis for modern life”(Winter). One of Lawrence's most known writings is The Rocking-Horse Winner which supplies his audience with three important messages.
“The Rocking Horse Winner” a short story written by D.H Lawrence that follows the short and tragic life of a boy named Paul, who assumes he has amazing luck after realizing he can predict racehorse winners by furiously riding his rocking horse until he reaches a trance-like state. Unfortunately, as his family takes advantage of his gift and starts gaining more money, Paul’s luck begins to kill him. Literally. Throughout the story, there are several themes evident, such as wealth, life, conscious, existence, luck, family, and greed. The conflicts displayed are man vs man, man vs self, and man vs. society. The rocking horse has become an obsession for Paul and the potential benefits it would have on his family, ultimately not knowing the actual harm it will cause.
