Haymitch is mostly under sober half of the time which annoys Katniss and Peeta. They both have stylists to design their costumes. Each costume is based on their districts, so Katniss’s and Peeta’s costumes reflect on coal mining. Later, Katniss and Peeta are escorted to the main plaza in front of the huge audience of the people in District 12. Katniss’s stylist Cinna tells them both to hold hands and they both develop a sensation and the crowd goes wild around them. During the preparation for the games, Peeta acts really kind to Katniss which she thinks is a trap. She thinks that the more kind, is the most dangerous although I think that Peeta just has feeling for her. When they arrive at the Training center, Katniss recognizes a red haired girl that serves them cake. Haymitch says that you couldn’t have seen her before and that she’s an Avox. An Avox is someone who commited a crime and has been punished by not being able to talk by cutting their tongue off. Then Katniss and Peeta both go up to the balcony to talk about the red haired girl and Peeta asks if Gale is a relative. Katniss says no and Peeta asks if he had meet her before she left. The novel The Hunger Games is written by author Suzannne Collins. Collins created a dystopian novel that has similarities to the current society we live in and could be interpreted to be what the future holds. Throughout the book characteristics of a dystopia society are revealed. From districts starving, living in poverty, being killed for trying to escape to somewhere better and being forced to do things they do not want to do. The beginning of the book on page three, starts with the main character Katniss Everdeen assuming her sister left their bed for their mothers’ because of nightmares caused by the reaping. The reaping is when each district chooses a boy and girl to take place in the Hunger Games. The Hunger games is a sadistic way the capital reminds their citizens they are in control. At the age of twelve children names are entered into calling up until they are
The book is in the voice of a young 16 year old girl named Katniss Everdeen who lives in District 12 which is the poorest district in all of Panem, and all of the districts are controlled by the Capitol. The character who is in charge of the Capitol is President Snow and he and the people of Panem have created this entertainment for themselves called the hunger games. The games consists of randomly drawing one male and one female from each district to compete in the games until one alive remains. The Hunger Games, a novel by Suzanne Collins, is the story of 16 years old, Katniss Everdeen, who fights to death for her district. The Hunger Games is an event hosted every year by the Capitol of Panem, where a randomly chosen boy and girl both need to represent each of the twelve districts that the capitol is composed of. When Katniss little sister, Prim, is chosen to be the representative for District twelve, Katniss volunteers to take her place and fight along her male counterpart, Peeta. The reason I choose this book for my book report is because Katniss is not your typical 16 year old girl. Not only is she her family’s provider but she’s also skillful, strong, rebellious, and unsentimental heroine. These are characteristics that society would mostly link to a 16 year old boy rather than a girl.
One of the first traits that Katniss has is bravery. To begin, Katniss shows her bravery when she considers running away from the Capitol. Katniss understands that there is an uprising in District eight and she says to Peeta, “We have to get out” (Collins 103). From this quote one can understand that Katniss
Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games is a dystopian novel about the adventures of Katniss Everdeen, who is forced to battle against other children in a fight-to-the-death tournament. Throughout the novel, Katniss appears to be saved by luck in many near death situations. She is fortunate when her backpack protects her from a knife and when she chooses a tree with a tracker jacker nest. Many believe Katniss survives because she has never-ending luck in the arena. This assumption may be true; however, the other tributes aid Katniss throughout the games. She becomes dependent on other people to make decisions easier for her. Luck does not play a role in Katniss’ survival because the other tributes actions save her in life-threatening situations.

In the movie, The Hunger Games, the director, Gary Ross, attempts to convey several messages about human nature and the current state of the world. This can be seen through an analysis of the mise-en-scéne in the beginning of the games scene. I argue that in this scene Ross was portraying human nature as selfish and following the logic of neorealism and Thomas Hobbes, while also showing the romanticism of violence by Western Culture.
