Introduction
“Florida is tourism. Every modern image of the state evokes travel for pleasure. To most outsiders, Florida is one big theme park, not a state but a “magic kingdom” of dreams and fantasies, where real life, with its mundane cares, is effectively banished” (Revels, 2011). Orlando, Florida can be appreciated as a destination where this image was created, where exhilarating attractions, distinct restaurants and hotels, and superior shopping have become a tourist’s dream vacation. Orlando has become the first destination in the United States to surpass over 62 million visitors in 2014, setting a new record for tourism as the most visited destination in the nation (Visit Orlando, 2015). This is considered to be the most important component of tourism in a location. It provides the destination with activities and interactive aspects that interest visitors worldwide. “Attraction means anything that creates a desire in any person to travel in a specific tourist destination or attraction” (Johnpaul, 2015). The attraction is consumed during the stay of the tourist, which impacts the majority of their experience in the destination. In order to create opportunities for tourists to visit places these attractions need to be innovative and simulating (Gisolf, 2012).
Attractions can be labeled into different categories based on certain characteristics they offer. These types of attractions are categorized under historical landmarks, museums and galleries, nature, shopping malls, and amusement and water parks (Heath, 2014). Each category has a set of features that make each attraction diverse, such as historical landmarks that have historical significance and nature attractions that incorporate the outdoors. These characteristics make up each type of
Just like modern day tourists, the tourism industry has been on a steady, fast paced journey due to technological evolution. With the affordability and easy accessibility, traveling potential has greatly increased. Sometimes, it is the destination that matters along with the people you go on the voyage with. Undeniably there are thousands of people who live in Orlando, Florida but there is not an abundance of people who were born here (such as me); some have moved here for various reasons: because of the weather and great opportunities that we offer. As a native Floridian, I have seen changes in the community (some good and bad). According to statistics it is considered the 3rd largest city in the world visited by tourist: our major attractions are Universal Orlando Resort, SeaWorld, and Disney World (which employs 50,000 people). Undoubtedly Florida receives a large amount of their income from tourist trade ($973 billion); and depends heavily on these visitors to return year after year to visit the Sunshine State. When people from
A bustling, balmy, and beautiful city, Cape Coral in Florida is the new destination for those looking to leave the rat race of city life while maintaining a sense of modernity with a bustling night life scene. It is nicknamed as the “Waterfront Wonderland” by locale solely as they can rejoice over 400 miles of navigable waterways and beach front. Its existence on the Gulf Coast, with interwoven roomy canals and brims, makes it blossom with recreation opportunities of all kinds.
Tourism is a dynamic and competitive industry that requires the ability to adapt constantly to customers' changing needs and desires, as the customer’s satisfaction, safety and enjoyment are particularly the focus of tourism businesses. In her book Rosalie Schwartz defines tourists as “sedentary people who leave home for pleasure and intend to return.” But “leisure creates work, it requires the work from others to ensure tourists find the pleasure they’re looking for.” Schwartz thesis in the book is that tourism in Cuba completely changed the social and economic aspect of the island; the author focuses in three tourist peaks in Cuba starting in 1920s, 1950s, and finally the 1980s.
There is a general belief amongst people, apparently quite connected with whether or not they’ve been there themselves, that Florida is a good place to go. In fact, it is almost impossible not to enjoy yourself in Florida today, given the wonderful selection of facilities available to tourists. Some of the world’s most popular tourist attractions are located in the state whose sand beaches welcome over 40 million people each year.these days it seems pointless to describe Florida’s geography and climate. After all, few people would have difficulty in finding it on a map and most would know what weather to expect there.
The Cinema of Attractions is based on an exhibitionist paradigm (Gunning, 2004: 44), where it seeks to knowingly addressing the spectator and provide its spectator with a series of views or selective information (Strauven, 1999: 49). The cinema of attractions existed primarily between the years 1895 and 1906 (Strauven, 1999: 38).
Why have I gone to Florida so many times in the past 8 years? Because my wife loves Disney World and I too have developed a love for this fairy tale land. It holds a special place as the destination for our honeymoon. Later this became the destination for our family’s’ vacation with our son and daughter. Disney World is one of the most attractive destinations to individuals across the globe. By far, Disney World is the most fun to enjoy with family and friends. Disney allows for both children and adults alike to enjoy the same rides, attractions, and shows. The parks are situated in a part of the country where the weather does not impede an individual’s enjoyment on a long term scale as the temperatures remain well above freezing year around.
Generally, much of the Miami metropolitan economy is developed through tourist business with the economy dominated by strong trade and service sector and relatively weak manufacturing sector. In comparison to other regions these economy features still differentiate the local economy even though the tourism sector is not monolith as it was in the past. Through the time the economic structure has undergone substantial changes and changed area from regional service center and domestic tourism to trade, financial, and professional service based economy which has a strong international focus (Blumenthal, Wolman & Hill, 2009).
Tourism is very important to South Florida because in the State of Florida, it is the largest industry and one of the reasons the state does not have a state income tax. It supports 1.1 million jobs with around 97 million visitors in 2014. Moreover, tourism in Florida generates 66 billion in travel spending which makes 4 billion in sales tax collections. In addition, every 85 visitors to Florida create 1 job, which leads to a stronger economy and a growing tourism industry. For these reasons, tourism in South Florida is an important factor in driving the local economy forward.
MacCannell makes it very clear that creating and restoring tourists’ destinations, promoting certain experiences, and offering every tourist their own idea of history. It helps create an economy of human experiences and memories that each tourist can hold near to them. MacCannell explains that tourism is “cultural production” meaning you need a tourist attraction. There are 3 main components that make up a tourist attraction: a marker, a sight, and a tourist. MacCannell goes on to explain that the marker is the most important part of a tourist attraction because without the marker the tourist would not recognize the site which at that point would not exist.
The topic of the essay will look into the increase in popularity and rejuvenation of the seaside town of Blackpool in the north-west of England. Various factors played a role in the growth in popularity for visiting Blackpool. The popularity of Blackpool will be compared to the gradual decline of the destination. Butler 's Tourism Area Lifecycle will be used to determine if the area of Blackpool has successfully rejuvenated the area to attract tourists.
Until taking this class, I never realized how much my views mirrored those of tourists. Miami has always been seen to me as a vacation state; nobody works there, but everybody
Tourism is an endeavour sought by an individual or a party of individuals, which leads to a movement from one place to another with the idealism of a specific task, to visit a place or several places with the primary purpose of achieving entertainment and increasing knowledge of countries, cultures, and their history. The expression ‘largest industry in the world’ is universally used with mention to tourism, ensuring its recognition as the largest generator of wealth (over 11.7% of the global gross domestic product) and employment (7% of the world’s jobs); this shows that tourism is indeed an important industry that depends on culture and legacy.(Budeanu, 2002) Vancouver is feasibly one of the most prevalent tourist destinations in Canada
Families and friends from across the world often travel to the beautiful, Caribbean islands for a warm, fun vacation. Tourists go to the Caribbean islands in a variety of ways. Many choose to stay on the islands in hotels for days or weeks at a time. Others buy a vacation on board a cruise ship, and that ship will sail to different islands for the passengers to enjoy and explore. Both of these vacations, however, can have negative effects on the Caribbean employment, local development, water resources, and the environment. This research paper will give descriptive information how tourism effects the Caribbean.
