People cope with tragedies in many ways. Some people try their best to forget, while others work to make sure the tragedy is never forgotten. The most constructive attitude towards memorials is sanctification.
Laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is a huge honor that would be amazing to partake in. This would mean to me in honoring all the lives lost serving our country and honoring all veterans, impacting my future for the better, and I would take away a greater respect from that I already have of many honorable lives lost in wars and who lay in Arlington National Cemetery. I have wanted to visit Arlington National Cemetery and this would be incredible experience.
Arlington National Cemetery is located in Arlington, Virginia and is home to over 400,000 graves. Service members who died while on active duty, retired members of the Armed Forces, and certain veterans and family members may be buried there. Seeing the countless rows of headstones allowed me to reflect upon the sacrifices made by our U.S. soldiers. I have a tremendous amount of respect for every person buried there. Monuments, memorials and dedicated trees commemorating individuals and significant events in our nation's history are interspersed throughout the cemetery among the headstones of service members for whom Arlington is the final resting place. These people shall never be forgotten. Walking beside the graves allowed me
Memorializing is often the way to remember a very important, intelligent, or rich person who lives above the rest of us. When we memorialize it sets a way to remember someone long after they have passed from life. More often than not those we put in statues and remember are those who change the world for the better or discover something new like Christopher Columbus, and his statue in Riverside Park (Deegan, Jim, source B). Lincoln's memorial isn’t where or had any importance to Lincoln, but it succeeds his most infamous speech he ever had “The Gettysburg Address” (Savage, source A). H. Elroy Johnson a famous lobster trapper, had a statue made but never finished during his lifetime, not until after his death, was the real statue made to memorialize him (Roadside America, source f).
George Washington’s relation to the Arlington National Cemetery is that his step-grandson, (George Washington Parke Custis), once owned the land. George is related to Mr. Custis by his wife, Martha Washington. Martha had a different affair with George Washington Parke Custis’s grandfather, Daniel Parke Custis, who died July 8, 1757 of most likely a heart attack.
Some ways we can honor are veterans are what i am writing about today. It is really important we honor them because they have been through a lot to protect us. When i say that i mean mentally and physically. If you watched the video then you would see that millions of people died. That was probably very hard to watch. And they have to go through a lot of training. So one thing you could do is make a card. If you know a vet or have a friend who knows one this would be something very nice to do.
Honoring those that have served our country has been a long-standing tradition in one of the countries with the best militaries in the world. We even have an annual holiday celebrating those who have served where an entire day is dedicated to veterans in our country. But the question is often asked as to why we honor these veterans with their own day, and why they are treated with the utmost respect year round. I believe the answer varies from person to person, but the answer is clear to me.
Roman grave markers, while much simpler than grave markers that are used today, still consisted of inscriptions to commemorate the person who passed. In the example of document four, the funeral inscription on the gravestone read, "To the gods of the [afterworld] ,To Julia Chrestes Junius Phoebion for his wife well deserving it he made it." The Romans wrote inscriptions on the grave markers to tell a little about the person’s life and to honor them for the life they lived. Many people of the United States adopted this same tradition in order to honor their dead. Grave markers now-a-days have evolved to include the date of the person’s birth and death, their full name, and a short note about their life. Like the Romans, modern day citizens put the gravestones up in memory of the people in their lives who have passed away. Years may have passed, but the tradition the Romans exhibited of honoring the dead remains a prominent feature of the United States
Arlington National Cemetery is a place where we honor our nation’s fallen soldiers and presidents. Arlington came about by George Washington when he married a widow Martha Custis. Martha had four kids with her first husband, but only two survived. Their names are
The graves of many famous people are at Arlington Nationel Cemetary. It did not start out that way. In 1861, a Confederate General and his wife owned the house and the land. That General was Robert E. Lee. His house was across the river from Washington, D.C. The Union Army took over the land at the start of the Civil War. Union soldiers that were killed in the war was buried near the house. These soldiers were poor. Their families could not pay for them to be buried. Arlington was called a "potter's field." A potters field is a place where poor or unknown people are buried. After the war, something odd started to happen. Union officers asked to be buried at Arlington. They wanted to be near those men who had been in the war with them. Americans
The Veterans Freedom Flag Memorial, near Joint Systems Manufacturing Center, is a memorial dedicated in 2007, to everyone who has fought, died and sacrificed for the safety and freedom of our country. War memorials are important things because they honor the lives and sacrifices of those who have protected freedom for hundreds of years. They serve as sentimental representations and/or reminders for some. Pathways into the emotional and physical pain that so many deal with everyday. In short they are important things to have in our society.
On the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month of 1918, an armistice, or temporary cessation of hostilities, was declared between the Allied nations and Germany in the First World War. Commemorated as Armistice Day beginning the following year, November eleventh became a legal federal holiday in the United States in 1938. It is now a holiday dedicated to American Veterans of all wars. It is important to celebrate Veterans Day to remember our military that keeps us safe, to show our appreciation for what they have done for us, and to remember their sacrifices.

The Arlington National Cemetery was established around the time of the Civil War. The United States needed a place to bury all of the dead soldiers, so they laid them down on the land of Robert E. Lee and his wife. Over the years, 300,000 soldiers have been buried there. They have also changed the qualifications to being buried in the cemetery. There are even a few famous war heroes who are buried there, not to mention the presidents who have been laid to rest. No matter how important a person is, calling Arlington National Cemetery home is an honor. In this paper, I will discuss how Arlington National Cemetery was established, what the requirements are to be buried there, and the statistics of the cemetery.
