The Importance Of Education

People all around the world are deprived of an education. Whether it is due to lack of resources, money, race, religious belief, or anything of that nature. Clearly, the UN states in their Human Rights document, that no person should be kept from an education because of race, gender, religious belief, or anything of the sorts. So why have people in lesser developed countries all over the world, been denied the privilege of education? Education is an essential part of human life, without it, the world would be filled with stupid people. With a world full of stupid people, the earth would be destroyed so fast, that no one could save it.

Having an education is one of the most important things to have no matter where you are. My entire life I have envisioned myself as a teacher. When I was young I would line up my stuff animals and give them math problems to solve. As I grew older my passion never faded. In middle school I began volunteering as an assistant soccer coach where I would sit and help teach new skills, from there in high school I did my student internship at a local middle school. Not only did I have experience in these classes, I also was able to sit in my Mothers middle school math classes. So when I got to college I knew that I wanted to follow in my mom’s footsteps. Currently, being in my field study and middle education classes I have learned that becoming a teacher is one of the most rewarding and influential careers someone could choose. Middle school aged students are going through the transitional years of their lives. These students are changing provocatively, whether it be physical, intellectually morally, psychologically or socially, these changes will impact who they will be in the future. While students are going through these changes they need a role model in their lives to represent and guide them through these challenges. Each student is changing at different rates. Boys and girls are both beginning puberty at this point of their life, their bodies are changing rapidly physically, and new things are going on with their bodies that they have not experienced before. There is a famous quote by Miles Kingston that states, "knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad." Often people use the words Knowledge, Wisdom, and Education interchangeably. However, this is far from appropriate. Currently, being an educated individual does not necessarily mean that that individual is wise or knowledgeable but simply that he or she has had an "education" and therefore carries a level of status and qualification.

According to the book on page 363, “education is a social institution through which a society’s children are taught basic academic knowledge, learning skills, and cultural norms.” Every nation has some sort of educational system which teaches all of these thing and each system varies greatly. What affects the educational systems the most is the money that goes into supporting each system. Many factors come into the amount of money that is spent on educations. A main one is the wealth of the country that particular system is in. The countries that have little to nothing are barely able to support any kind of education, if any. This is a social concern for many countries.

The way you grow up directly affects how successful you are in the future. Many parents can’t provide as much to their children to give them the necessities they need for school, medical care, and even the basic needs. When it comes down to it, the way a kid is taken care of shapes who they are as a person and their development in this world.

Parents put their children through the educational system with the hope that their education will lead to real world success. Many skills and lessons are taught and learned in the average 12-year education that children are required to undergo. Although schools teach many subjects such as math, science, and English; many would criticize that they do not adequately prepare students for real life. Some, if not most, classes that are required during grade school teach useless life lessons that are not transferable to the real world. These classes are tested and graded by a system that is not visible in real life. All throughout a student’s education, teachers who may not care about the students, train them to pick a degree and get a job, without offering more creative life plans. This letter is being written to inform you, the school board, of the flaws in the public school’s curriculum and ways to improve them.

The American education system has remained relatively unchanged for over a century, but the world we live in has changed immensely. We are surrounded by innovation, yet our nation still structures its institutions as it did in 1893. The United States used to be ranked number one in the world for the percentage of students that graduate from high school and obtain college degrees. Presently, 20 countries rank above the U.S. Many of our schools have little relevance to what is needed to prosper in the modern workforce. Presently, graduates need to be equipped with problem-solving and critical-thinking skills. The sole way to achieve this is by educating all students in a deeper learning environment. Unfortunately, a countless number of schools in America lack this setting. Instructors should strive to develop a classroom that will integrate and encourage deeper learning.Instructors should strive to develop a classroom that will integrate and encourage deeper learning. To achieve a better learning environment schools must incorporate new methods of assessment, provide exposure to working in groups, and give students the opportunity to explore their interests. As a result, students will want to learn at a profound level and have a deeper understanding of educational concepts.

I think education should be more of an experience rather than a process. There will be days at school where I don’t say a word and just sit through a bunch of lectures where neither me or any of my classmates can vocalize our opinions and thoughts. School these days is so dreadful for a lot of us students and we are all waiting for the day we get to graduate and get started with our lives. But to make the time less dreadful we have certain classes where our teacher is actually devoted and dedicated to their work. The Teachers who actually want to hear what their students have to say whether they are right or wrong are the ones who really know how to help their developing pupils actually learn and retain a educated outlook on that subject. I do not think education is the problem. It is the people who give us the education. Saying this though there are students that prefer a hour long lecture and no input from anyone. Lectures we are able to listen to but when you get to discuss things with other people It just really makes you think and gives you so much more output on the subject.

Why school? Throughout life, we always tend to wonder whether or not having an education is beneficial and can end up leading to a life of success. As students, we always search for the deliverance that will help us to answer this question. When we are young, we view school as a place to meet new people and a place that we go to have fun. But once we grow out of this stage, we wonder what the true reasoning behind education actually is. We as students tend to outgrow the day to day lifestyle of forcing ourselves out of bed every morning to go to a place we have no idea to interpret what we are learning and how to apply it to our lives. I was driving to an art performance on a Friday night with my eight-year-old daughter strapped in the backseat, and we were talking about where I was going once she was dropped off at her friend’s house. I explained to her that there had been several hurricanes that left the island of Puerto Rico in need of resources and help, and that the money raised at the event that night was going to will help aid the effort. Everyone deserves the opportunity of an education, and although we see change throughout the world, some still do not manage to see the importance of education and the impact it can have is capable of having on an individual.

Education is a right recognized by many countries across the world, and yet many children don’t even have access to attend school. In Plato’s “The Allegory of the Cave”, coming out of the cave and being blinded by the sun is like learning for the first time. The amount of information may be overwhelming at first, but then can be accustomed to. Education creates opportunities which then creates a better life for children and society, especially in poorer countries. Not only is it a human right to attend school but it is also just, and when something is just, it must be just for all. Education should not be a privilege, and no matter the gender or financial status of a child, they have every right to attend school.
