The value of family seems to be obvious in every culture around the world. After watching the film, Kite Runner and exploring other materials, it is rather noticeable that the value of family is very important to the Afghan culture. The sense of family roots has driven many to do things they otherwise would not have done. Families may be the primary motivators for some people, either as heroic models or as people whom they fear to disappoint. Regardless of what one’s family turns out to be, family is still family. Many people will go to extreme measures to fulfill a duty that involves family. It may be true that the bond between family members is stronger than any other bond known to man. The value of family

Family constitutes the basic unit of society, and it assumes diverse forms and functions from one country to another, and within each national society. There are many different types of family structure, with different strengths and weaknesses. Any image of what constitute the ideal family differs greatly both within and among countries. Marriage and family play essential roles in society, because wisdom is always passed to offsprings so that humen keep getting improved. Human are special because they think with reasons, although some are convincible some are not. In “What We Really Miss About the 1950s”, Coontz explained why people have nostalgia for 1950s however not really want to go back. In “From Marriage Market: How Inequality is Remaking the American Family”, Cahn and Carbone how women in nowadays are more free than those in old days. Present years in facts are not better times for children to grow up in because of lackness of standards, rampant and materialism.
While almost all other cultures changed from embryonic to democratic societies, one culture managed to keep even its most brutal and backward traditions and values for 1,800 years. Still to this day, majority of Muslims prefer to live by values that can be traced all the way back to the desert tribes in which the prophets originated from. Living as an American Muslim and coming from a Bangladeshi background have instilled in me perspectives that differ from others. Growing up in America, my parents have tried to keep my religion and culture strong. We live in an era in which the nature, function, and structure of the family have been thrown into question. Many, for example, would consider an unmarried couple, a single mother, and
Everyone has values that they consider to be the most important aspects of their life. For me, these values are family and friendship. In many occasions, it is those who have less, but have strong familial and friendship bonds that seem to be the happiest. Through family bonds and friendship, we are able to have happy, fulfilling lives that money and success can not quite achieve. In the CASL building, during the photowalk, I observed my surroundings to find the photos that I took. In the photos I took, a Macbeth poster and a quinceañera, we can see why I feel that these bonds are of utmost importance. The Macbeth poster shows that power comes with a price and cannot bring true happiness through the facial expression and the skull being in the shape of a crown. While the quinceañera photo shows that having family and friends surrounding you can bring you happiness. However, the music videos that were viewed in class display different values from my own. In these, the core values displayed are black empowerment and bringing awareness to discrimination that the African-American community face as a whole. Although these are vastly important, they do not connect fully with my values.
The animal mates, but man marries. The significance of distinction is simple and clear. Mating is biological while marriage is social and cultural. Marriage implies a ceremony, a union with social sanctions, and recognition of obligations to the community assumed by those entering this relationship. As Malinowski long ago pointed out, marriage among mankind is always in the mores. Marriage and family are two different but correlated things.
Chapter 12 begins with the experience of the author that he had while living in Colima, and studied the culture of the natives. He saw the differences in views of marriages and family between the cultures. This shows that while family and marriage is universal, what it means to each culture is vastly different. Family is therefore defined broadly as people who consider themselves related by blood, marriage, and adoption. Both marriage and family are used to govern mate selection and controlling inheritance. Marriage and family also play into the different perspectives of sociologists, as functionalists examine functions and dysfunctions of family life, conflict theorists focus on inequalities in marriage, and symbolic interactionists examine the different experiences and perspectives of men and women. There are major elements that go into the family life cycle which include the following: love, marriage, childbirth, child rearing, and the family in later life. Mate selections have different elements too, as there are different patterns of selections like age, social class, and race-ethnicity. The primary distinction in families is social class, even in one-parent, childless, blended, gay, and lesbian families. There are three major changes in that characterize U.S. families which are, postponing marriage, increase in cohabitation, and having the first child at an older age. The rates of divorce can differ, but divorce affects not only the couple, but also their children and
The commitment of marriage is one of the most important decisions two people will make in their lives. The vow of marriage is a pledge of your everlasting love uniting you in holy marriage. Whereby you commit to share all that life has to offer. The good times and the bad times, with patience and understanding. For marriage to remain strong, your faith must never waiver due to circumstances of everyday life. Remember, that the power of faith can conquer all obstacles. Marriage is a spiritual contract. When words of faith are spoken, and actual miracle takes place as God honors your faith and brings you into union together. Love is a commitment, not just and emotion or a feeling. These words were spoken fourteen years ago, on August sixteenth, two thousand two. I was a young, twenty-one year old girl who was committing her life to the only boyfriend she had ever had. We already had three kids, and I just figured that it was the next step in life that we were supposed to do. Everyone did it, so I had to too. As the years progressed, I wondered if I had made the right decision and, and was finding myself wanting out of the marriage. Because I have also experienced unhappiness in marriage, I can relate to Louise Mallard’s reactions and behavior following the news of her husband’s death.
