The Importance Of Gun Control

Gun control is defined as the government regulation of the sale and ownership of firearms, yet this definition seems to change depending on the source. Many see gun control as a violation of their rights while others think guns in any form should be banned. The best configuration of gun control is actually somewhere in the middle; there needs to be some regulation while not infringing upon the rights of gun owners. Completely unregulated distribution of guns would have devastating outcomes but, while many may argue that guns be banned, they are a right of every US citizen. There are some countries that have enacted very strict gun laws yet they have not found enough success to justify the stricter laws. Although guns are seen as evil objects of death, they are very often used for recreational purposes.
The Second amendment states, “A well-regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a Free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” In simple terms this means that every US citizen has the right to “own and possess and weapon” and to also use that weapon in cases of self-defense. Some may argue that the Second Amendment only applies to those who are a part of a militia. However, on June 26th, 2008, the District of Columbia et al. v. Heller Supreme Court ruling states, “The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes,
