I personally think that my key principals are caring for life, respect and honesty. I think for me caring is important because I was raise in a vegetarian home. My family does not consume meat, fish, or eggs. Yet we do consume dairy products because we believe that it does not harm any animal. In my principal, I think that all life is important and should not be harm. Unless someone is harming others and disturbing peace, then he or she should be harm. We have to care for all life from humans to animals, which my religion taught me as a child. My parents and religion have taught me it is important to respect one another. We have to respect the laws or codes in society. Therefore, we can live in peace. As a young child, my parents and …show more content…
I think that over time a person ethical standpoint can change
I think there are multiple limitations of my code of ethics. In my code for caring, I know that all life is important. Yet if a person’s is suffering or has an extreme medical condition then people are sometime put down such as a coma patient. Some people feel as though they do not have right to take a person life until they are death just like Baby Theresa discussion. Yet people have different viewpoints about caring for life. Some people may not respect everything around them such as rules or laws. People do not tend to respect everything because they might have a different perspective on a certain rule or cultural standpoint. Sometimes do not tend to be honest because they might see being honest is a greater harm than a greater good. People do lie in certain situation to create a better outcome or not. It depends on the situation. The definition of Utilitarian is “good is what produces more pleasure or happiness than pain” (Birsch 77). I think my personal ethics code of caring would go well with this principle. When peoples’ care for others and their well-being they want to make sure that the person is happy. Just like Utilitarian focuses on people happiness and making sure that they are well taken care of. Yet the major difference is that when caring for any living thing you make sure it’s not harm in any way. While for Utilitarian is majority rule if a group agrees on a
Utilitarianism considers the pleasure and pain of every individual affected by an action. It also considers everyone to be equal and does not permit an individual to put their interests or relationships first. After this it attempts to provide an objective, quantitative method for making moral decisions. Utilitarianism is not able to assign quantitative measures to all pleasures and pains, and does not address the issue of some pleasures and pains that cannot or should not be measured-such as human life or human suffering.
Utilitarianism, in the contrary, is based on the principle of utility or usefulness. Utility is what encourages an agent to act in a particular way (Tuckett, 1998). Utility can be explained as maximizing the good like pleasure and happiness and minimizing the bad like pain and evil, all leading to the greater good for all parties involved. It weights the consequences of the actions equally between the ones involved, and the ethical solution would be to follow the greater good for most if not all the parties involved.
Utilitarianism is a theory in normative ethics supporting the idea that the morally correct course of action is the one that maximizes utility, usually defined as maximizing totally benefit and minimizing suffering. By ‘utility’ in this sense we mean ‘happiness’ or ‘pleasure, or similar. Although there are many varieties,
My personal code of ethics is Equality and Sensibility. I believe in a predictable system that assures the well-being of all, especially those without power, is a just system. As a wife, mother, nurse and a member of a community, I strive to do the best I can in every aspect of my life. As a mother, I strive to be a good role model to my children and teach them the fundamentals of life. I strive to be able to give a solid foundation and an easy path to life whether it be school, finding who they want to be as they grow older and for a productive future. As a nurse, I strive for equality of care for every patient and to be able to be their voice when they are not
Utilitarianism is a theory aimed at defining one simple basis that can be applied when making any ethical decision. It is based on a human’s natural instinct to seek pleasure and avoid pain.
Utilitarianism is a philosophical theory. It concerns how to evaluate a large range of things that involve choices communities or groups face. These choices include policies, laws, human’s rights, moral codes,
First let’s look at the meaning for what a Utilitarianism is. According to the book “Doing Ethics” by Lewis Vaughn, to a
In my personal life I value, respect, honesty and loyalty to the highest regard. In the past my morals and values were tested, but never compromised. By creating a code of ethics it has reinforced my values and generated a guideline for upholding them.
Utilitarianism is a consequentialist theory that judges an action on its outcomes and aims to maximize happiness. This means finding the action that generates the “greatest good for the greatest number”.
Utilitarianism is the moral doctrine that we should always act to produce the greatest possible balance of good over bad for everyone affected by our actions (Shaw & Barry, 62).
In contrast, utilitarianism is an ethics systems based on pleasure and well-being for all parties involved. This systems recommends making the decision that will bring the greatest amount of well-being to the greatest number of people
The Code of Ethics “offers a set of values, principles and standards to guide decision making and conduct when ethical issue arise…specific applications of the Code must take into account the context in which it is
Utilitarianism is a moral theory that has long been the subject of philosophical debate. This theory, when practiced, appears to set a very basic guideline to follow when one is faced with a moral dilemma. Fundamental Utilitarianism states that when a moral dilemma arises, one should take action that causes favorable results or reduces less favorable results. If these less favorable results, or pain, occur from this action, it can be justified if it is produced to prevent more pain or produce happiness. Stating the Utilitarian view can summarize these basic principles: "the greatest good for the greatest number". Utilitarians are to believe that if they follow this philosophy, that no matter what action they take, it
What is a standard of human behaviors’ true or false, and what is the moral basis? Utilitarianism gives the answer. Utilitarianism is the claim that the right action is that action which maximizes utility. Utilitarianism think that people should be made a behavior of “maximizing utility”, the so-called good calculation must rely on the behavior of each individual involved going to feel the sum of each individual is treated as the same quantity, and happiness and pain can be reduced, the pain is only the pleasure of "negative". It is different from general ethics, utilitarian don 't consider a personal behavior motive and means, only consider a behavior of results on the influence of the maximum joy. Can increase the maximum happiness
Even though I do not always speak up when I know something is wrong, I have a strong code of personal ethics because I believe loyalty, honesty, and above all, respect for others will guide me to make me the proper ethical decisions throughout my life.
