“How I Write” Reflection
Writing doesn’t always come easy for me, considering that English is my second language, my writing is not the best. In order for me to get better, I took English AP courses in high school that encouraged me to stand at a college level and be prepared for essays such as this one. Although I know I need a lot more improvement for my writing skills, I am taking writing way serious than what I did my previous years. I am willing to learn and get the best out of this course. There are many reasons why I write, but the main reason is that “writing is everywhere” oftentimes is not my favorite thing to do, but definitively the most important and essential.
I personally, need a quiet environment free from distractions to concentrate during my writing. Before I start composing, I must be in a comfortable place where I don’t get easily distracted, and unfortunately my house is not such place. When my family is home, they usually ask me to do chores or to go pick up my brother or drive to the grocery store. At the same time, I get distracted by social media or TV. In fact, my phone can never be around because I know that even if I don’t have any messages, I know that I will get distracted with something useless and time consuming. From there on, my level of focus goes down and ultimately I get lost on the writing assignment.
At this point, I talked to my parents to let them know that I need my own study time outside of home. To do so I often go to places where
This course offers numerous opportunities to improve our writing. In this class, I not only enhanced the skills I already had, but also learned new writing concepts. Before I took this class, I knew that my writing is poor, and I have always wanted to improve it; however, I did not know how and what aspects of writing to improve. So, I came into this class with the ambition to improve my writing, and I have accomplished my goal although there is still room for improvement. At this point of this course, I have learned the elements that successful writing is composed of, and I am now able to categorize the various techniques that can work together to define strong
Throughout my many years of taking English courses I have learned great things. With this, I have had great writing experiences and developed strength in writing. Though I have learned many new skills on writing, I still strive to be a better writer. In this essay, I will discuss how my education, prior writing experiences, writing strengths, and writing weaknesses factor into my choice.
I have been practicing on how to improve my writing over the past few weeks, which has taught me a great deal about writing. My teacher would like me to evaluate and explain my strengths and weaknesses in my own writing. This evaluation is in between my two essays. One on my own and another with my teacher's help. I have strengths and weakness in my introduction, body paragraphs ,and my conclusion.
We are already midway through the first quarter of my last year as a high school student. I find it hard to completely grasp how quickly this year is passing and yet I feel like we've already accomplished so much.
I have many talents but I would have to say writing is not at the top of that list. I am not a terrible writer, actually I have been told I am pretty good. It is the fact that I am not confident in my writing abilities. When I am given a writing assignment it takes me awhile to fully know what I am writing about, I take forever to start a essay but once I get my ideas on paper it turns into a piece of cake. I guess it is because I have so many thoughts and opinions running rampant and I have a hard time taming them all. Because of this I can take longer on a a essay than needs be. When I took AP Literature last year I would always have trouble finishing my essays, they would start off well but towards the end, they would not make any since. Tell me to
My writing looks like the game Tetris – I write according to how my ideas flow from my head to my paper. The English 1010 lessons are designed to impact my writing processes and since being in the course I have realized the importance of the process while preparing the paper. While I knew that practice and revisions were important to the writing process, the ideas of writing as inherently collaborative or as an extension of technology were not concepts that I had considered at length. For the assignment, I chose to record myself and reflect on my process. The observation of my writing process and decisions took place in an awkward way. I began sitting at my desk in my dorm with a black ink pen, wide-ruled paper, and the prompt of my essay. It took a good bit of time for the process to begin – all the distractions had to run out, frequent checks on social media, quick trip to the snack machine, and responding to text messages. Finally, it was time to start. I can begin. “Ok, outline” I said to myself. “What’s your main point?” And so, I started, pen to paper, writing the three main ideas I knew I wanted to cover in the paper. I did discover, however, that I scratch my head while I am thinking and as I write I would catch myself reading aloud.
This week I think my writing was better than the previous weeks because I had learned about many of different type of writing including cause and effect, positive and negative, persuasive writing and comparison which can help me to collaborate the style in my writing to show the variety of the structure. Also, this week I prepare an outline for the research project and I faced the problem on my idea which I’m not assured with this idea so this might be the problems when I write the paragraph. As a result, I got the advised that I should find more references to support the ideas. The another task in this week was listening. The teachers showed us about the listening exam which you have to answer in multiple choice. In my viewpoint, I think answer
My day one writing process wasn't much of an effective process, it was mainly just meeting page requirements by adding a ton of filler information. this was not a good process because it takes away from the purpose of the paper and makes it a lot more difficult to capture the readers attention. taking this six week course has improved my writing process.
So far, taking this English course has impacted my writing skills in a good way. This class has helped me to acquire skills to become a better writer in college and for my future. In this class I have had the chance to make important revisions to my papers when needed. I learned how to use the writing process effectively so far by brainstorming ideas for my topic, making multiple drafts, getting in groups for peer editing, and revising my paper into a final draft. By following this writing process it makes me look deeper into my essay and explore all the ways I can make revisions until it’s perfect. By using that writing process it has changed my writing and the way I look at “writing papers” as a whole. Although, there are some challenges that I still face with my writing that I will have fixed by the end of this course.
During the course of this semester, I wrote several essays, several of them being for English 111. The four primary essays I wrote for the course were on: the importance of truth, the time I almost died from an allergic reaction, a review of one of my favorite films, and a revision of the truth essay. In addition to my essays, I learned a lot from the peer reviews that the professor implemented as well. In writing the the first two essays, I found many improvements in my writing styles as a student. In the truth essay and its revision, I learned about the important of evidence and examples. This helped improve my writing style and essay because it provided information in areas that I was lacking. I felt as though my narrative
Throughout the past semester, as a writer, I have experienced an immense amount of development. The knowledge I have received through attending this English class has had an eminently positive affect on my writing capabilities, styles, and comforts. During the duration of the class I have been constantly urged to journey outside of my traditional comfort zone to elaborate and write about several topics that have affected and diversified my ability as a writer. In addition, I have learned many different styles of writing, new to me before the class and have attempted to write various new forms of essays. Through learning and attempting all of the new writing styles and techniques, my writing has positively grown amidst the duration of the semester. The constant practice in and outside the classroom continually matured and refined my writing proficiency and capabilities. The development and advancement of my writing ability is displayed in my works through the processes of prewriting preparation, writing development, and revision and editing.
Over the course of this year I have had the opportunity to use all of the writing techniques that we have learned in class this year during my assignments. But when going back through and reflecting on my works I have had many different chances to incorporate them in but had missed my opportunity. During the beginning of the year I worked as quickly as I could to finish assignments and was barely able to turn them in on time. This was a huge problem for me because I was not able to fully understand every writing strategy and when and where to use them. However as the year progressed I was able to budget more time for completing my homework so I could incorporate these new strategies that we learned during class into my assignments. Over the course of this reflection I will talk about certain assignments that I could have improved with different techniques and then show how I did.
Throughout this course, writing 101, I have learned how to improve my writing in many aspects. This course has taught me the correct ways to write a college essay and has helped me get out of old habits that I got away with in high school. When I first found out that we were required to take a writing class I was nervous because I am not the bets writer. For the class, we were required to write down a list of goals that we would work towards through the class to help improve in writing. For me there was a lot I could have worked on so I made sure I wrote out goals that I would stick to in order to get a good foundation in writing at the college level. My main outcomes for this course where that I needed to do my essays at least a week
If I were to describe my writing style in one word it would be " ". I began to realize this the latter half of my sophomore year of high school. I was fortunate enough to have an excellent English department with supportive teachers throughout my four years at school. Each teacher I learned from was great at giving constructive feedback and always made me feel valued as a writer. I might not have been the best but throughout the different classes I took, I believe skills I have picked up along the way have made me a better writer. There's a point some people hit where writing doesn't feel like a chore, but rather they look forward to. I come from a family of readers as well as writers, and I like to believe they go hand-in-hand. I think that's why I looked forward to summer reading assignments and the essays that accompanied them. It became a way for me to reflect on the book I had just read, I got a better understanding of it when I needed to describe my favorite chapter or explain the plot.
To graduate from high school in New York, it’s a requirement for students to pass the english regent. I was scheduled to take mine in the middle of my junior year and I felt a lot of pressure. When it came to all of my english classes I hardly ever got a high average in the class. It wasn’t that I was bad at the subject or anything, it was just that I would score low on the assignments that counted the most. I would always get the same critique on my writing which was the fact I didn’t organize my writing properly and that I didn’t strike all the key features. Another factor that played into my low scores was the fact I never practiced my writing and took my assignments serious.
