It was basketball season and I was in eighth grade. Our team's record was 7-1 and we were playing william lenoir middle school today, who had beat us the first game of the season. We all woke up thinking about this game. The whole morning as I was getting ready for school the only thing I could think about was this game. I got to school and all me and the rest of the team talked about was beating them. We all talked about it all day and that's all our team could think about. It was about 2:50 and I started feeling really nervous and I know I wasn't the only one. 10 more minutes went by and school finally let out and now I was very nervous because I knew how big this game was and so did all my teammates. We were very quiet as the girls game was being played before ours. We all sat together but not a single word was said to anybody. Once it was halftime of the girls game our coach told us to go get changed. At this point you could tell how nervous our whole team was. We got down to the locker room and changed. Our coach came down to the locker room with a giant speaker so we knew he was up to something. He told us all to sit down and listen. So we sat down and he started playing a song. He told us to put our heads down, close our eyes, and just imagine in our minds winning the game. We all thought he was crazy for thinking a song would change the way the game went. Once the song was over we had to go upstairs and wait till the girls game was over. They only had 1 minute left and my hands started getting really sweaty. It was probably the longest minute of my life. When the buzzer for the girls game went off my stomach dropped to the ground. I knew it was time to go out. We ran out of the locker room and every seat in the stands was full of people. We only had 5 minutes to warm up and that was the fastest 5 minutes of my life. The buzzer went off and we had to go sit on the bench. They started calling our names and when they called mine it was a really exciting feeling. Now both teams had their starting 5 on the court. The game started right when we got on the court and got set up. William lenoir won the tip. Their whole team started off hot. They were hitting
I have never felt more nervous than in the locker room before my region game in Pierre to advance to the state tournament. My teammates and I were gathered in the locker room before the game like we usually are, but this was different. The feeling of knowing that this was our last chance of going to the state tournament and playing for a championship was on the line. I remember it was so quite. I had headphones on, and so many thoughts were traveling my mind. The music blasting in my ears was a blur and all I could hear was my own heart beating. Coach Gardner entered the room and had the coaching staff with him preparing to give his pregame speech. After he relieved some of our stress and nerves, we were ready. We broke down the huddle and jogged down the dark hall to the court. I will never forget walking onto the court hearing the screeching cheers and seeing the sea of purple on one side of the court and red on the other.
It wasn’t any normal game it was the championship game. I really didn't have any worries because my team was really good. The other team was good too because that team had beat us before and they beat us by a lot of points. I was texting my friends while I waiting for the game cousin told me
We got changed in the locker room, listening to music that would get our adrenaline pumping. The game started with a tip-off with us getting the ball and scoring on the first play, but so did the other team. The game was very close. We would score, they would score. No one ever got ahead by more than four points. At the end of the second quarter with ten seconds left, it was their ball and we were down by two. They did a nice play and a girl got a wide open three pointer. Then the buzzer went off and we all looked at our fuming coach and knew what was about to come at half time. You know that scene in the movie, “42” about Jackie Robinson, where the other teams coach is yelling at him saying rude things? And then there’s the heartbreakingly beautiful scene where Jackie goes into the dugout and breaks his bat and screams and cries. That’s what our halftime was like. The coach yelling and us wanting to scream and cry, but still we had determination to win this game. We came back out ready to play and immediately tied it back it up. The game kept going back and forth, until the fourth quarter with a minute left and us up by four. The other teams coach called a timeout and our coach gave us a speech about if we wanted to win, we needed teamwork. Teamwork just like Jackie Robinson and the Brooklyn Dodgers. We came back out and held the game at four points until the buzzer went
The day the team got together and fought threw a tough battle facing pinnacle high school. It was our second home game and our record was 1-2. After all of the hard work we had put in over summer, we realized we could not lose, especially in front of our home crowd. At the beginning of the game we did our usual warm-ups, I have never felt so much adrenaline pushing threw my veins in my life. After the warm-ups the whole team got in a big huddle, we chanted a chant that will never be forgotten and one day make history for the pride. After the chant we got ready for kick-off, lined up and ready to go. The crowd started cheering at the first 2 seconds of the game “go pride go, go pride go”. This made the whole team nervous, not just because there was so many
I was on the little pee wee team called the Panthers. I was only 10 years old when I first started playing for the team. At first when joining the team I was doubtful on whether or not I would be good enough to play. That moment when Coach Smith called my name I knew it was time. During that first game we were playing against the Cubs. I was wearing number 95. Then all of a sudden I found myself at the line of defense; shaking full of nerves. This was my first time on the field with a team; a team that had my back and knew that I had theirs. My family came out to my game to support me. At first that was all I could focus on was them shouting my name. I had to focus, I hit my helmet to get myself in the zone; I had seen the professional football players do that on TV so I took a chance and tried it out. I was bent over, mouth guard in, and saliva dripping out, I even growled to
Since it was my very first varsity game I was extremely nervous and scared to let my team down. On the first drive I was called out to punt from the back of our end zone. I prepared myself for the worst because our starting long snapper was injured, so my long snapper was a tight end who had never snapped before in his life. The ball ended up being snapped 3 ft over my head and about 10 ft to my left, so I sprinted to get under the ball, jumped
The best thing that ever happened to me is when my baseball team beat Brandon Valley for the first place position in regionals. Brandon Valley was our rivals and we hated each other for not really any reason. We knew at the start of the game that winning this would put us in first place. We had lost to Brandon Valley twice before but they were beatable. It was a home game near the end of July and sunny. The conditions were great for baseball. Our nerves were high and waiting for the game to start seemed like an eternity.
Our coach at the time, Coach Lallemand, would have cuts at the beginning and end of the year every year. So, at the end of my sophomore year we were at tryouts going through our drills and what have you. Then at the end he called us one by one into his office. I was expecting to make the team I had no doubt in my mind I was going to make the team. When he called my name I wasn’t nervous or anxious, I knew I was
When I was younger I used to play sports especially football. I remember playing in the championship game for Coral Reef Senior High against American Heritage Senior High. It was my last high school game and for us to remain undefeated throughout the season. I also knew I had to bring my “A” game because of college scouts were going to be at the game. Our game was to be played at Florida International University at 7pm. My team and I went to the FIU stadium two hours before the game started to stretch and loosen up. So as the time was winding down for us to play we step on the field, all I could see was a lot people in the stands cheering us on. I kind of had butterflies in my stomach but I had to put that feeling aside and help my team win.
I was getting of the bus at Pike High School to start my high school soccer career. I remember being extremely excited and happy to finally get the season started. The team stepped off the bus and formed two lines to walk to the fields to warm up. I began my warm up feeling fresh. I got plenty of sleep the night before and I was not too nervous.
Entering the venue of the game the crowd was already electric. As I look up I see our massive student section chanting fight songs and other cheers. Parents and staff members were smiling ear to ear chanting along with the student section trying to help get us ready to take on our opponent. As warm ups started the atmosphere became more and more intense as the countdown went on. Looking over at my teammates close to me we all look focused on getting the job done. Not one of us were
I remember walking off the bus as we all went into the hotel and coach heaps assigning us all our rooms. As my group of teammates got into our room we kind of just stood there; I think that we all realized
It was my freshman year, and my first year playing varsity football. Before every game I would have butterflies in my stomach until the first sound of pads colliding. This game, we were playing Lenawee Christian.
The game vs Houston my senior year was probably my favorite game in my whole high school career. To start the game off I returned the kickoff 76 yards for a touchdown. I was weaving, ducking and breaking through tackles down the field. Finally I saw a crease, found a block, and took it the distance. The first half was basically us battling back and forth. The only points that were scored was on my kick return. They got extremely close to scoring but they missed the field goal at the last minute. After half time, they received the ball first and scored instantly. We ran some time off the clock with our next drive but we still had to punt the ball away. They came back and scored again on their next drive. The game was coming down to the wire,
As my heart grew for the love of volleyball, I took my talents to harder competition, Great Lakes at the end of my sixth-grade season. This is a very well-known team and they are very superior at volleyball. That was one of the scariest tryouts I have ever attended because there were over three hundred girls trying out for the volleyball team! The first thing everyone was tested on was "hitting". Every girl got in a line and tried their best to hit the ball over the net. Well, I was still in sixth grade at the time along with many other girls and most of us were all still fairly short. I was the next girl in line to hit, I had butterflies in my stomach like no other. I walked up to the ten-foot line and did my approach. Boom! The ball goes screaming over the net! I never knew I had such great power in my arm. Next up in line was the girl behind me her name was Megan, she was also short. Megan goes up to the line and swung at the ball but missed. The girls in the gym were laughing at her because the ball went under the net instead of going over. Suddenly
