Intro:
Thesis statement: There’s no doubt that gender gap case is increasing nowadays in our society and principally because of performance.
Background:
Gender gap is a serious problem that the whole world is facing, there’s many barriers and reasons behind this issue, the gender inequality changes over time and across different countries. Hence gender inequality is attributable to all communities, where averagely men are much better placed in economic, political and social hierarchies as compared to women.
Background evidence:
For what i have read, According to The Global Gender Gap Index 2012, the gender gap score in the United States is 0.7373, in India is 0.6442 and in Yemen is 0.5054 (Table 3a). The scores are female/male ratio,
The article “Moving Beyond the Gender Gap” by Abby M. McCloskey discusses the gender gap when voting. In a national election, more women vote for the Democrat nominee rather than the Republican nominee. In the past, Mitt Romney lost the women’s vote by twelve points to President Barack Obama. In the most recent election, Hillary Clinton won the women’s vote by twelve points. When broken down by race and ethnicity, the gap grew to ninety points among black women and forty-two points among Latina women.
The gender gap has been a continental divide in the American political arena for decades where differences in male and female voters and politicians has affected the efficacy of political action in the United States of America. Experts across the board have studied the gender gap and have concluded to many opinions about the gender gap and its condition and what it means to the United States of America. The polarization between the sexes has created a country divided and weak due to the widening of the gender gap.
Inequality, inequality is a strong word that comes to my mind when I think of problems going on in our world. This situation is happening all over the world and it's affecting many people including. This situation affects me for the following reasons which include gender diversity and racism.
There is supposed to be equal protection for everyone in the United States, but in reality, there isn’t. People who are minority and of color get targeted, because of their race, gender, and class, while wealthy white people are put on a pedal stool and hardly ever get in trouble by the law. In many case the wealthy are not arrested nor are they given a sentence for their wrongful doing, they are allowed to get away with murder (86). In the meantime, poor people are not given the same treatment and can be sentence to 15 years, 25 years, or life in prison for committing minor offense. The Social sphere is inequality that has increased, women who work the same hours as a man are looked down on because they are supposed to be at home with the
According to The Declaration of Independence , "All men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable right" (Jefferson) . Does much of that statement holds any truth? America is still recognized as the greatest country in the world, as well as an elite superpower; but has many short comings. Some persons may believe that there has always been inequality in the legal system, since the beginning of time. For instance, we "Americans" are always in the public eye or hold such precedence when it comes to the "American Dream" or image of how we are perceived by the world. Every successful American or the government wants to promote that.
“You won’t get paid. As a woman and of color, you’re going to be underpaid, so there’s really no point,” Daniel recalled (“Career and Workplace” 4). A future law graduate was told to throw away her dreams in regards to gender inequality. A girl named Reshma Daniel had to give up what she loved most because of a situation regarding both her race and gender. Reshma Daniel’s parents moved to America from India with just a couple dollars. Her parents wanted their children to live the American life. For Daniel, that simply meant law school. While at Nova in Southeastern University in Florida, she majored in legal studies and job shadowed a family lawyer. After a pretrial hearing had taken place, another lawyer, a Vietnamese woman, told Daniel
I believe Patriarchy best explains the gender pay gap for many reasons.First of all when people think of a Patriarchal society, they think of the extreme tradition of women not allowed to work, vote, etc.Today Patriarchy does exist but its often manifests in casual ways that tend to go unnoticed by the majority of the population. But quiet enough to cause gender pay gap.
Gender Inequality is when one is perceived or treated differently because of their identified gender. Gender identity is combination of our biological characteristics and social factors. Biological characteristics that symbolize a men is his masculinity, this causes people to think that men are stronger than women and this leads the society to perceive women as being physically weak. The difference in perception and treatment for comparable work is what serves as the basics for gender inequality. Gender Inequality is all around us such as in sports, politics, and the workforce; all members of society have felt the presence of gender inequality in one way or another.
“A century ago, women occupied a position of striking subordination” (Macionis; Jansson; Benoit) husbands has all the power and control in marriage, and laws limits women from most of the jobs, and also from voting, but nowadays situation change a little bit. The American Civil Liberties Union (2015) affirms that despite the tremendous progress made in the struggle for gender equality, women still face violence, discrimination, and institutional barriers to equal participation in society.
Gender inequality is a prominent factor within society. Gender inequality consists of violence against women, as well as the inequality within health care, education, and the workplace (such as the pay gap, and positions women hold within the workplace). As society currently progresses towards equality with movements such as Feminism (the belief which women deserve equal opportunities and treatment as men receive), refutes only increase as positions of power are challenged. Achieving gender equality within the United States alone would be extremely beneficial for women. “In 2010, American women on average earned 81 percent of what their male counterparts earned” (Gender Inequality and Women in the US Labor Force). The pay gap is an increasingly
The topics of gender inequality become more and more popular in the society because a lot of reports show that many women are killed by bias on all over the world every year and women are hard to find a job in some places nowadays. Under this background, the “team” of feminist becomes stronger and stronger. In‘’ ‘I’ve been pondering whether you can be a part-feminist’: Young Australian Women’s Studies student discuss gender”, Kate Hughes presents the changing of students who has different gender perceptions . He mentions: “The background to this study is one Women’s Studies program which can be positioned as part of ‘new wave’ Women’s Studies.” That shows the women’s power has played an important role in people’s mind. In the article, people’s show thier ideas about ethnicity, equality, and freedom, but it doesn’t talk about the situation of the gender inequality and how people solve such questions from all over the world. How is the gender inequality affect people’s life? Are they being solved? What measures do people use to solve those problems? In this paper, I will discuss gender inequality issues and the different measures people use to fix up the questions.
This also could be related to the participation of the United States in various wars over the last 80 years, where the participation the man is needed. Creating the female LFPR increase and Male LFPR decrease.
The report included 136 countries, “representing over 90% of the world’s population” (The Global Gender Gap Report, 2013). Although, gender equality has not been achieved in any country, in 2013 “over 96% of the gap in health outcomes, 93% of the gap in educational attainment, 60% of the gap in economic participation and 21% of the gap in political empowerment” were closed (The Global Gender Gap Report, 2013). Views upon why gender stratification exists vary within different sociological theories and hold different ideals of what the ‘norm’ should be for members of society.
So what exactly is the gender wage gap? The gender wage gap (also referred to as the gender pay gap) is, “a measure of the difference between the earnings of men and women.” (Leaker, 2008). The wage gap estimates that women could make $10,000 less than men a year (Vasel, 2017). The gap is typically described as a percentage of women’s average pay to men’s. The average pay of women is found through surveys executed in multiple countries and regions. Two examples of a survey distributed in the United Kingdom are the Annual Survey of Hours and Earnings (ASHE) and the Labour Force Survey (LFS); employers are asked for specific details on earnings and hours of their employees (Leaker, 2008). This data has also shown that the gap does not appear until a certain age, “…data sources show that earnings are similar when entering the job
Throughout society gender, the traditional state of being male or female, plays a significant role in many different accepts of one’s life. Whether one is male or female can affect many things from the level of respect one might receive to the chance of getting the job one desires and even to the extent of effecting one’s salary. From as early as 1800’s gender inequality, unequal treatment of individuals wholly due to their gender, has been an issue and still continues today. Before World War II many women only worked at home and did housework rather than working in factories and offices. Although gender inequality is not that extreme these days, it still has a major impact on things like the salaries of men verses women.
