Odysseus endured twenty torturous years of attempting to return home to Ithaca where his wife and son remained, however, he was only ineffective for so long due to his own wrongdoings. In Homer’s “Odyssey”, the greatest enemy for Odysseus and his crew was their own curiosity. Their want to return home was disregarded as a result of their own inquisitiveness in instances such as when they waited for the cyclops to return to the cave when Odysseus did not use earwax to protect himself from the siren’s voices, and when the crew decided to open the bag of air against Odysseus wishes.
