The Issue Of Gun Control

Gun control is an issue that nothing significant has been done to change for three primary reasons: 1) the influential role of the National Rifle Association with regard to campaign financing and lobbying, 2) the fact that the right to bear arms is enumerated in the Second Amendment of the United States Constitution, and 3) that many Americans feel deeply passionate about their right to gun ownership. Thus, there has been little significant reform vis-a-vis enacting stricter gun control laws or more in-depth background checks for gun ownership. Due to the lack of the will of politicians make changes the laws surrounding gun control and thereby the lack of any reform, it is an important issue that needs attention. The issue of gun control continues to be a pressing issue today in American politics. Just recently, yet another gun massacre killed six innocent church-goers in Charleston, South Carolina. Not only does the issue of enacting stronger gun control laws have an emotional impact on many, but it also creates an ethical dilemma for politicians. As the National Rifle Association (NRA) has a strong influence over campaign finance and re-election, politicians face an ethical dilemma to either stand up for gun control and deal the possible ramifications from the NRA or to keep their mouths shut in regard to gun control and not risk losing their position in politics.
