The “Last Supper “ is very impactful and allegorical artwork. It is painted by Leonardo da Vinci in late 15th century. It is hovered in the refractory of covent of Santa Maria delle Grazie, Milan. It was made between 1495 to 1498. Let us describe the painting physically. It is painted on the wall but is not a true fresco because it is not painted on a dry wall while fresco is painted on a wet wall. He applied the double coat of dried plaster on the stone wall and finished it with oil and tempera. At the end he added the undercoat of white lead. Leonardo had a technique of working slowly so it gave time to the painting to get dry and develop gradual shading. The painting is rectangular and covers the end wall of the dinning hall. The painting is very subtle and has dramatic effect. The tone is bit contrasting. The colors of the painting might be bold and vibrant but due to the environmental factors and damages, they have now become very light and merged. A very little of the original painting remains today. It is very deep and naturalistic piece of art. In the painting, Jesus is sitting on the table for supper along with his twelve apostles. This painting actually illustrates the moment when Jesus realized that one of his apostle would betray him and he told that thing to all the diners. Different apostles have mixed reactions and everyone is surprised and shocked at his own place. Their expressions are specifically captured in this painting by Leonardo and its his mastery
