1. LAW: Being a native of the Common Wealth of Pennsylvania, I took the liberty of conducting research on the irrelevant and or ridiculous laws that Pennsylvania enforces. My search began with the obvious google inquiry, and amusingly enough “Stupid Pennsylvania Laws” immediately rendered several sites for research ability. Unfortunately, most of the referenced laws could not be validated by supporting documentation. The laws which I could validate, had, in my opinion a certain level of validity. However, the one law that has personally struck a chord with me for as long as I can remember, has and will remain until its annulment, the law makes hunting illegal on Sundays. Based upon my research, this law has been in effect for over 100 years, giving way to religious culture of Sunday being a day of rest and farmers concerns on trespassing violations. I attend church, however, it generally has a tendency to become a façade of worship and more of a social event. I seek God every day, and I am pleased to find his present in nature and the randomly humbling kind acts of strangers. People have the ability to make a choice about how they will spend their time, this law robs sportsman and women of this right. Onto the matter of trespassing, I have witnessed several violations of trespassing in my expeditions and have also fallen victim to them myself. Perhaps, stricter laws on trespassing may be a solution (if they are enforced)? Times constantly change, our schedules and our
2).With 12.5 million hunters in the United States, it seems as though most families have a reason to support hunting rights in country. Safety is a top propriety; new younger hunters are now required to pass a gun hunting safety class. The safety class deals with such issues as proper handling of a firearm, and safety issues and how one must never point a gun at anything that the hunter does not want to kill.“The hunter education course instills in students the knowledge and skill to be a responsible and safe hunter. The basic course consists of 10 lessons during a minimum of 10 hours. Students learn how hunting accidents are caused and how they can be prevented. Hunter responsibility and safety are stressed throughout the classes, which consist of lectures, demonstrations, group discussions, practical exercises, and individual study and activity assignments” (Wisconsin department of natural resources, 2009, p.1). Hunting is also important to the economy of the country in 2006, [125 million hunters entered the woods spending $22.9 billion that would have not went into the economy without hunting. Total cost of hunting equipment for hunting was $10.7 Billion](“2006 National Survey of Fishing, Hunting, and Wildlife-Associated Recreation,” 2006). Which would not have went to local business without hunting. Hunting is not just a pastime in the United States; it is big business
1738: First “buck law” in Virginia only allowed killing of antlered bucks (Leopold, 1933 a, p. 481).
Hunting is a sport that men and women around the world have enjoyed for centuries. However, today there is so much controversy over whether it is ethical or beneficial for animals to be hunted. People who do not support hunting are not aware of the benefits it offers for not only the hunter, but also the animal population. There are hunting seasons, specific types of guns the hunters can use, the time sportsmen can hunt, and many other rules that keep sportsmen from hunting unfairly or overhunting. Sportsmen must buy license and tags to hunt legally, which keeps many people from hunting. The people who go against these regulations face heavy fines and in some cases, jail time. People who do not support hunting probably are not aware that because
Hunting Gray Wolves should be illegal because they are interesting animals, that many become extinct if hunting continues. “Gray Wolves were once common throughout all of North America, but were exterminated in most areas of the United States by the mid 1930s” (“Basic Facts”). Gray Wolves are being killed by people hunting them. People hunt these wolves for the fun of it or because they’re afraid of them, but what so fun about killing innocent creatures and wolves rarely attack humans. Hunting Gray Wolves will make them become extinct. “There are an estimated…. 3700 grey wolves in the Great Lakes Region and 1675 in the Northern Rockies” (“Basic Facts”). If wolves became extinct; generations later wouldn’t be able to see them. Wolves are also in many fictional cartoons like “Three Little Pigs,” and “Little Red Riding Hood.” These two entertaining
When reviewing the history of these laws and researching their application throughout the various states, one law stood out to me as remarkably insensitive:
In a civilized and cultivated country, wild animals only continue to exist at all when preserved by sportsmen”("MARC FOLCO: Some hunting, fishing quotes to live by"). Hunters are the leading source for all conservation programs. Theodore Roosevelt was one of the most passionate hunters. People put down hunting like it’s a bad thing. Many hunters contribute billions of dollars the the economy. Hunting should not be banned because of the positive impacts it has on society.
Hunting has become a staple of American traditions since the beginning of the first hunter/gatherers, to the Native Americans who have lived in the U.S for millennia, even all the way until present day. Much of today’s society looks at hunting as a cruel activity when in reality it has more of a positive effect on the environment than it does harm. There are an abundance of benefits that come from hunting. Some of the benefits of hunting are: it is the biggest contribution to conserving wildlife, the meat is healthier than commercially produced meat, many jobs are being supported out of hunting, and every hunter wants “to bag” the trophy animal; however, there are a few cons to this, which include poaching and interference by the activist
If hunting was legal in Illinois, I think that the amounts that were killed each year could be compromised with so that it doesn't get to out of hand and kill off the population, because we wouldn't want that…
Hunting has been ingrained in American history from the Native American tribes and from when the first settlers arrived to the New World. While hunting is not needed for survival in today’s society every year thousands of hunters take to the woods in pursuit of their quarry. While many people think these hunters are all the same there are two main sects that make up the hunting community; gun hunters and bowhunters. While both methods of hunting are similar and share many common points, there are some key differences between the two as well. While bowhunting is more challenging and the less popular of the two methods, and being less popular is often seen as a bad thing, bowhunting’s lack of popularity and increased challenge is what makes it the true pure form of hunting.
In this paper, I will discuss Pennsylvania Concealed Carry laws, benefits of concealed carry and my views on such, states that Pennsylvania has reciprocity with and the troubles this creates, and the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2014. Concealed Carry is the act of carrying a handgun that is hidden, usually under clothing. Concealed Carry is a controversial topic in today’s age, especially with the gun laws that were dominating politics in 2013 and 2014. There is currently a bill in office to make Concealed Carry laws much better for the carrier. I will write more about this later in the paper.
In the novel, The Most Dangerous Game, Richard Connell expresses that hunting, as a game is immoral and is played for fun. Connell also illustrates that hunting in particular is not a good thing to do. The author of this novel has shown that hunting is a dangerous game through one of the main characters, General Zaroff, who is crazy, ill and thinks of hunting humans as a sport.
First, the law was not found to be neutral and fair. The writers of the ordinance deliberately included words like “sacrifice” and “ritual” to single out the Santeria worship. Second, the law did not pass the least restrictive means test. If the government was concerned about the general public welfare such as sanitation concerns from animal sacrifice, the court reasoned that these concerns “could be addressed by restrictions stopping far short of a flat prohibition of all Santeria sacrificial practices” (Kennedy 407). For example, the government could have regulated disposal of organic garbage if their aim was to promote public sanitation. The first two points here showed to the court that “it is a necessary conclusion that almost the only conduct subject of [the] Ordinances… is the religious exercise of Santeria church members” (Kennedy 407). After failing the neutral test, the court then looked to find a compelling government interest, of which they found none. As a result, the Supreme court struck down the Ordinances and allowed the Santeria church members to practice their religion
This law can easily be viewed as a Civil Rights violation, and should be exercised with caution. Lawyers are already lining up, poised to flood the courts with lawsuits claiming exactly
disagreed upon for various reasons, the effects of hunting have been and will continue to
Wouldn’t someone want the right to rifle hunt in Iowa if they a had rifle? Many hunters in the State of Iowa own rifles and can’t use them due to the DNR regulations/laws for rifle hunting. Although rifle hunting in Iowa is illegal, the hunters of Iowa should be able to use rifles because many hunters have them, it’s a more convenient way to hunt, and it’s a cheaper way of hunting.
