In the long winding journey of life, each decision we make affects our lives in ways we rarely even think to imagine. Whether the largely mundane decision to take the car or the bus home, or even a decision so significant as to accept or refuse a job proposal in a different country, may both may affect the path that your life takes on the same scale; all depending on what you choose. In my life, there is mainly one event that I know without a doubt changed the course and possibly the destiny of my life’s journey. As a 12 year old girl with an overactive imagination prone to fantasies of the grand life of the rich and famous, I felt that the world was at my feet and more than anything, I wanted to be a famous actress. I used to steal clothes from my mother’s closet, carry our dusty RCA video recorder through the living room to set it up on the living room table that I’d push to the far end of the wall to record myself playing whatever acting game I could come up with. “This 3’10, tacky dressing (yes, that was my actual intentional fashion style), whom some consider more “alien” than African American (there really were quite a lot of people who said there was no way I was Black), has a flair for the dramatic” could’ve been the banner carried over my head to signify my life in younger years. For as long as I can remember, and as young as I can remember myself being, I loved acting. Living in Cleveland, Ohio, there were numerous opportunities for casting auditions and
A significant event in one's life forces a person to reevaluate their current situation and decide how they will adapt to a new situation, or cause them to look back on the steps they took to get into that situation. In life as well as in the literature Crosswalk In The Rain, and THE TENT DELIVERY WOMAN’S RIDE, people have to adapt to what is happening in their lives, despite conditions they may have been through in the past. In life at some point there will be crossroads that a person must cross, they can either look back at what they have done to end up in that position or they can look forward and see what they must do to continue moving forward.
Life is about making choices, but some of them can even change our life. Two years ago I decided to come to America for my higher studies in Western Kentucky University. Although I knew it was really a challenge to me, this significant decision that I’ve made was going to change everything about my life and me. There are many things in life that can change the course of a person’s life. It can either make a positive impact or a negative impact on a person’s life. It’s always best to have the positive impact though. For me I have had a positive experience that has changed my life forever and that is coming to a different land and culture.
His survival is heavily influenced by every choice he makes, from ignoring the exhortations to escape impending danger to choosing to stay with his father in spite of difficulties. His experience with the Holocaust directly shapes his role as a frontline fighter for recognition of Holocaust victims. In moving to Canada, I also shaped my role in society. My skills, such as playing sports; hobbies, such as reading; and characteristics, such as persistence and studious attitude have all developed due to my moving to Canada. My exposure to a life so plentiful in opportunities has also caused me to take many things for granted. Events in people’s lives shape who they become. Some of these circumstances are brought about by the decisions of others, while the majority of occurrences are caused by deliberate choices. These decisions can shape destiny in a life-or-death situation or a can be like a small, yet equally profound, choice to smile at a stranger. While some decisions are out of one’s hands, a conscious effort to have a positive outlook on life can still influence destiny. Like a rudder, daily decisions made with a positive mentality can steer people to a prosperous life. It does not do well to dwell on what may have happened, but rather on how the life one creates can be consequential in further extending the development of
This paper is written to share my personal spiritual journey. I will discuss the influence my family has had during my upbringing on my religious and spiritual practices. I will additionally share how my spirituality has changed and evolved over time as I married and now have a family of my own. This will help me to expound on how my personal spiritual beliefs will establish a respectful, collaborative, and caring relationships with my future clients.
In this essay i will argue for the idea of the soul surviving death. The idea of surviving death has been floating around for years and has been debated by many. It is undeniable that the physical body cannot survive death, but the soul is a whole other matter. The soul itself, the containment of our thoughts, personality and experiences, survives the biological death of the body. The belief in the soul requires the belief in reincarnation based simply on science because of the laws of thermodynamics. Energy cannot be created or destroyed- it can only change its form. The soul it’s self can never be destroyed or die, thus must be reborn. Since the body is "recycled" by decay and decomposition after death, so does the soul, the soul is recycled by taking birth in a new form. To become something new while containing something old. We are all born with a full soul that has a personality, but as we grow, we grow into our personalities; we become more us as we age. The soul doesn’t require an actually body to live but without a body the soul can’t gain new knowledge or experiences. The soul takes the form of many different species to obtain the greatest experience of physical life. The two philosophical articles i will be using in this essay are Rosenberg’s “life after death” and Suits’s argument.
Many people live their lives believing that their lives are driven by fate; that their hopes and dreams ultimately have no impact on how their lives will turn out. This, however, does not hold true when one considers the paths taken by those who follow their own dreams and desires. When one examines the lives of people and characters who follow their dreams, one can realize that life is not guided by fate, but by the desires of one’s heart.
We have all heard at some point of our lives that “the journey is more important than the destination.” This idea was featured in Paulo Coelho’s novel, The Alchemist which offered many life lessons that apply today even after being published 25+ years ago. Although some would argue that the journey is irrelevant because it can lead to no results, I would counter that if you don’t take the steps to reach that result, you will be unable to improve upon your process, to reach your true destination. With this in mind, the journey is more important than the decision because: it offers preparation for the destination, allows the person or character to grow, and gives you the opportunity to improve upon the steps taken to reach your
The lives of every single person are directly correlated to all of the choices they have made be it big or small. In the play “Macbeth”, the fates of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth were largely caused by the decisions which they had made earlier in the story. Furthermore, the choices of Mahatma Gandhi had led him to his position as a leader of a people fighting for their independence. Moreover, in the stories of the founders of the monster company Apple, their various decisions led them to their triumph today.
At the end of a day, a week, or a life, the end result is very different based on each individual road, accordingly, every choice is pivotal and final. The “road not taken” may haunt the individual to ponder and consider how their life would be different, save that one small choice (Kirszner & Mandell, 2012, p.624). Not only will the individual never gets back to the original path, they will have lost all of the opportunities the alternate path would open up for them. The individual considers a choice, takes responsibility for a decision and therefore, chance does not determine the outcome, but instead, the individual determines the
I remember sitting in front of the television at six years old, watching the title sequence to "What's New, Scooby Doo?" and thinking, " How can they enter a room through one door and exit through on the opposite side of the hallway?" Little did I know that would be the epitome of my life within the next 13 years. I soon discovered that life itself is a collection of choices, and making one does not always mean we will stay on one path. Sometimes we make choices to stay and end up as far away as possible from the things we thought we would achieve. However, a mistake that we think will haunt us for the rest of our lives can end up being the best mistake we could have ever wished for. My life has been a series of choices that could have been
My experiences with being part of the first generation in my family to participate in post secondary studies has been both remarkable as well as challenging. My father came to Canada as a refugee over 30 years ago and dropped out of school when he was only 16 due to the Sikh genocide that occurred in 1984 where thousands of Sikhs were being killed, raped, and tortured daily by the Indian government. He was forced to work to support his family by working long and hard hours at the family farm. When he finally raised enough money, he came to Canada in hopes of a better life not only for himself, but also for his wife and future children. He worked in a factory when first coming to Canada and finally saved enough money to buy a truck. My mother
The Lord states all things are possible through him (Philippians 4:13, King James Version), this is the motto I find myself holding to at this juncture in my journey as a novice researcher. The journey is similar to climbing a mountain, where the experiences will encompass both successes and struggles as at the peak the finished product will demonstrate an understanding of the process the identifies a topic and addresses the problem. This week I found a reflection wrote in April when I took this course but withdrew due to caring for my dying Grandmother. I am pleased that I did apply some of my advice without realizing, but saddened that some I did not as it applies to now. During both attempts at working towards completing the capstone, I experienced significant life events related to family losses and over commitments. Thus, this paper reflects and compares the advice from April with what I have learned and would suggest in the future. In April I advised myself to make a plan and manage my time when reading material for the research (Klinger, assignment 2017, April). Additionally, it cautioned on the element of self-care and commitments, which would have been wise to have read at the beginning of this
With each passing day, I began counting them down and marking them off on my calender. In the mean time, as I observed new patients entering the program, I could not help but notice the excruciating extent of suffering drugs and/or alcohol subjected them to. Most of them appeared almost weightless as if they were suffering from starvation. The texture of their skin appeared dried out, pale and wrinkled. The impotence they endured over their drug(s) of choice was obviously tormenting. Likewise, A glimpse into their burgundy colored eyes told practically their entire story as I could virtually feel the pain thumping inside their chests. Repeatedly, I observed storm-like tears slithering down their cheeks as their faces implied how clueless they were about what to expect. I was forced to ask myself, “how much of what I saw was me?” I continued to question whether
Life is full of adventures, and beyond us many new adventures await us, but all of this is a part of our destiny that has been in place for us since birth. Fate affects all of our decisions in life, whether the decision pertains to our home, school or is a life changing decision, it all leads back to our fate. Fate causes all the life changes around us, leading one to conclude that decisions made in life have actually been prearranged for everyone. Destiny plays a major role in our lives and can leave everlasting results that we can never forget. {add can or no?}
“I wanted to be an actress. I wanted to be known. Yes, it's difficult sometimes. I believe that if you're going to be in a profession like this, which is so open to criticism, to speculation, you need to have people around you who will believe in you and stand by you,” Katrina Kaif, renown actress. Throughout centuries, the career of making plays and movies has influenced many aspects in today’s society. The art of the acting industry has progressed dramatically over time, especially with the involvement of women. However, a process was made to get to the point of where actresses are today. If women did not break through oppression and inequality barriers, the acting industry would not be where it is today.
