There are various of conflicts that eventually led up to the Civil War. With the series of issues, the Civil War began in the year 1861 after the secession of the Southern states. Due to the tension, it created a war between the North and the South which took place in an island in Charleston harbor at Fort Sumner. Without a doubt, the South began to form the Confederacy; meanwhile, the North remained as the Union. During this time, the United States began to have a war with itself. The issues that have caused the war were the differences in economy, opinions on slavery, and the political conflicts. The economic conflict was one of the main causes between the North and the South. There was a huge difference between the two, due to the differences of their geography. The North was leaning towards an industrial economy; however, the South was heading towards an agricultural economy. This greatly divided the nation as it created a variety of issues between the two. For instance, “ There is no demand, … for the productions of the Southern industry; … and that we are dependent on Northern capitalists … to build our railroads, canals and other public improvement (Helper, 1857). For this reason, the South couldn’t invest as much unlike the North because the South was limited to only plantations. Additionally, the South couldn’t contribute to literature or arts because it had a different industry from the North. This created more tension because the North contributes more and the
In 1861, a Civil War broke out in the United States when the South declared their independence from the Union. There is a great amount of reasons that people can argue how the Civil War was started. However, what most people don’t understand, is that most of the events leading up to the Civil War were related to slavery. Slavery was the core of the North and South’s conflict, which led to a very vicious feud.
The Civil War was caused by economic conflict, slavery issues and the disagreements between the North and South.
The Civil War was the war that divided the young American nation into two opposing sides. One side being the North, also called the Union, and the second side being the South, also called the Confederacy. The root cause of why the South seceded from the Union has been debated and argued since the beginning of the war in 1861. Most people argue that the argument, between the North and the South, over slavery was the main reason why the South left the Union. However, the issue has to be more complex than just the issue with slavery. The root cause of the of the South secession from the Union was a combination of the South’s aggravation and fear over their dependence on the North for their economic prosperity and their dependence on slavery for a highly profitable economy.
The Civil War happened due to the many differences between the North and the South. For example economic, social, cultural and political differences. These all helped lead America to a Civil War. But to an extent, the most important cause was the fact there were many disagreements with states' rights versus federal rights.
The causes of the Civil War were complex and have been controversial since the country began. Some causes include; states’ rights, economics, and slavery. The most recognizable and popular cause is slavery. The freeing of the slaves was an important moral issue at the time and one of the greatest causes of the civil war. "It was only by carefully avoiding the moral issue involved in slavery that Northerners and Southerners could meet on any common ground." (Goldston, 79). The time came in which our great country would finally address the moral issue of slavery. Although there are many different causes to the American Civil War, the main cause was slavery because other causes are rooted in the issue of slavery.
The Civil War, an event resulted from a nation being torn apart by its own differences. “A house divided by itself cannot stand.”, as claimed by Abraham Lincoln. A gruesome war between the Northern part of the U.S. (the Union) and the Southern part of the U.S. (the Confederacy), the Civil War took place mainly in the South and lasted from 1861 to 1865. The political differences, economic differences, and idealistic slavery differences between the North and the South are what caused the Civil War.
There are four leading causes of the Civil War. First, the concept of “States’ Rights.” Which was a struggle between the federal government and individual states over the political power? Nonetheless, it led to the outbreak of the Civil War because it caused a division between the North and south. As a result was the Compromise of 1850. The Compromise of 1850 because of California a free state, Southwest Territory, the adjustment of the border between Mexico and Texas, alienation of slave trade in DC, and for the southern a stronger Fugitive slave law. Therefore
You may think, after having a great leader, everything is going to be alright in a country. But life doesn’t go as you plan. I too thought American History must be pleasant after Abraham Lincoln became the president in 1860. But what I read next, a civil war; leaving more than half a million people dead, wounded and missing. Was this Civil War certain? While the reasons for the war are more complex, racial slavery was the primary reason. Since the South was booming with the cotton industry and demand for slave increased. Southern leaders encouraged slave revolts and racial mixture. Although both the North and the South tried to reconcile their differences with major political compromises but all attempts failed. Lincoln declared, “We shall nobly save or meanly lose, the last best hope of earth”. And this started the conflict. Called the War Between the States by the southerners and the War of the Rebellion by northerners, the struggle finally resolved the great issue of the Union and the slavery.
America has been a country divided between the North and South since its creation in 1776. For over 70 years, the conflict slowly built up until tensions became overwhelming. The nation’s leaders tried to ease the strained relationship with various compromises and acts, but they could not fully satisfy either group. As a result, the United States entered into a deadly domestic war that lasted from 1861 to 1865 and claimed more than 600,000 lives. The American Civil War was fought because of political, economical, and social differences between the North and the South.
“My paramount object in this struggle is to save the Union…. If I could save the Union without freeing any slave, I would do it, and if I could save it by freeing all the slaves, I would do it; and if I could save it by freeing some and leaving the others alone, I would also do it.” Abraham Lincoln 1862. The American Civil War was fought between the North and South from 1861 to 1865 due to long time tension of moral, economic, and political differences. The War began shortly after the election of our sixteenth president Abraham Lincoln, who was known for his opposition on slavery. Seven southren states suceded and declared their independence from the United States to the Conferadate states. Many argue on the causes of the Civil War, was it moral, and the conversy about slavery. Or, was it political, between states rights vs. Union. Lastly, could it possibly be an economic difference between the North and the South that caused protest between them.
In 1860, the world 's greatest nation was locked in Civil War. The war divided the country between the North and South. There were many factors that caused this war, but the main ones were the different interpretations of the Constitution by the North and South, the Kansas-Nebraska Act, and the arrival of
The North’s actions of abolishing slavery and enacting tariffs caused the South to fight in hopes of preserving their way of life and economy. Plantations in the South were only successful because of slavery. Without the slaves helping them create the abundance of cotton, the South would have no economy. The country’s economy would be greatly altered if slavery was eliminated both from a consumer and producer perspective. When the North did announce that they wanted to completely eradicate slavery, the South was taken aback due to the fact that the whole country would not function without slavery and the cotton produced. The North wanted the South to industrialize but the South replied “… we must ever continue to be, wholly dependent upon agriculture and commerce (South Caroline Protest Against the Tariff of 1828).” The climate in the South did not allow for the same industrialization to occur as it did in the North. Plantations and their productions of cash crops were booming in the South and the northern frontier was too small of a market, therefore leading them to sell to foreign countries. This caused the North to enact tariffs and in order to prevent the South from being too successful and lose them as a market. The North ended up petrifying the Southerners into fighting a war in order to preserve their way of life and thriving economy.
A second issue that arose and caused a big division in the nation was a result of the economy. The northern states operated off a total different form of economy than the southern states did. The North’s economy was built off industry, particularly the textile mills. “There was no place like it, either in terms of economic organization or urban development, in the South” (Gienapp, 4). While the South’s economy was built off farming. The south needed slaves to help tend the crops specifically the cotton, and with the invention of the cotton gin, the need for slaves greatly expanded.
The civil war started because the Northern States did not want their slaves and the southern states did not want their slaves either. The civil war also began when the southern troops bombarded the Fort Sumter, in south carolina. It was fought between the southern and northern states from 1861 to 1865. The northern had more men and materials than the south for the war. The northerns army had 2 times the army as the south.
Throughout history many civil wars occurred for many reasons, The U.S. Civil war were caused by the events in 1850s . The debate and conflict over of the North and South on Slavery, political decisions and economics lead to the civil war. Slavery was the significant contribution to the civil war as it led to the conflict in all systems. Since the Events in 1850s led to the increase in sectionalism and outbreaks of the U.S Civil war, events that were conflict over political decisions, slavery ideas, social and economic differences between the North and South.
